Welcome

Welcome to my shop, and thanks for stopping by.

I believe that handmade soap is a beautiful craft, and I like to make skin-loving and gently fragrant soaps as naturally as possible. Spices, herbs, essential oils, and rich oils are what make handmade soaps nourishing and an experience unmatched by commercial 'soap'. True handmade soap retains glycerin, which does wonders for the skin. It is one of the key things which differentiates handmade from commercial soap, which is most often a bar of pressed detergents.

In my little shop of lovely, natural soaps, you will find no animal fats, preservatives, synthetic colourings, parabens, phthalates, or sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates. Fragrance oils in some soaps are the only synthetic ingredients used, so all of my soaps are at least 99% natural, many are 100%. All soaps other than Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey are vegan.

Birch Bark Soaps are also available locally at Yarmouth Natural and The Whole You here in Nova Scotia, as well as Hands On Crafts and The Shanty Café.

A portion of my soapmaking profits is being loaned to an entrepreneur in the developing world through Kiva, and reinvested when paid back. Check it out at kiva.org! A portion of profits is also donated to Yarmouth Life Skills, a local day program for adults with disabilities.

Payment

I prefer payment via PayPal, within three days of purchase. If you order more than three items and wait for me to e-mail you a PayPal invoice before payment, you may receive a discounted shipping rate. If you pay upon ordering, even if your order qualifies for a discounted rate, the difference will not be sent to you as a refund.

Shipping

I ship worldwide via Canada Post. Please contact me if you would like to place an order but are outside of Canada or the US - I'm happy to send some soaps your way and will accordingly change shipping info on the items you would like, to make them order-able for you.

Standard air shipping to the US via Canada Post takes approximately 10-14 Canadian business days to most US destinations (Canada Post does not operate on Saturdays) and is the option included in each listing. This time frame is not guaranteed by Canada Post, as they have no control over delays at the border, and there is no tracking number with this option. If you would like your order to arrive more quickly, please let me know before paying, and we can make alternate shipping arrangements.

If you order three or more items and wait for an e-mail invoice, I will charge actual shipping, which is sometimes less than what is quoted upon checkout. If you pay upon ordering, even if you qualify for a discounted rate, the difference will not be sent to you as a refund.

Please contact me before ordering if you have any other questions about shipping - I understand that Canada Post is expensive and sometimes makes no sense. Items are shipped within two business days of purchase.

Refunds and Exchanges

Please contact me if there is a problem with anything you purchase from my shop, and I will do my darnedest to make you happy. Specifics of each situation may determine how far that offer goes.

Additional Policies and FAQs

I am happy to accommodate special requests, whether it is for wedding or shower favours, a specific type of soap, or anything else your heart desires. Please keep in mind that soap needs to cure for a few weeks before it is firm and mild and ready to use. At least six week's notice (preferably eight) is ideal for time-sensitive orders.
