Slaney's Shop Policies
Welcome
I hope you're enjoying my Etsy shop. Right now, my artistic focus has been on oil paintings, so, clearly, that medium is dominating the available selection. Other works will find their way to the shop soon enough. Prints of the paintings are a lower-cost option I'd love to make available, but, unfortunately, the extra money it takes to get that done is really something I don't have right now; But, the cartoons and pen-and-ink drawings I will be posting will have printed editions available and, thus, a much lighter price tag.
Thanks for looking, and feel free to ask me ANY questions at ANY time. Just contact me with the 'conversation' function or by email and I'll be more than happy to give you any and all information I can.
Payment
All items are priced in US dollars, despite the supremity of certain foreign currencies right now.
I accept PAYPAL, personal checks, money orders and cashiers' checks. As soon as the order is placed and I receive payment, the order will be packaged and shipped the next business day. So, of course, if you're paying by money order or cashiers' check, I have to receive it before I can ship anything. If you send a personal check, it will have to clear before I can ship your item. During that time spent in limbo, each of us waiting for our respective items, the artwork you purchased, if one of a kind, will, naturally, be taken off my shop page; only to return if there is some kind of cancellation or problem.
I encourage frequent contact between myself and buyers in order to establish a more 'personal' connection, as what you are purchasing is art and should not be a sterile object acquired through a sterile, impersonal transaction.
Shipping
I package all my art personally, and do so as if it were going to be fired out of a cannon into heavy traffic... Trust in my packaging.
Any and all specifics regarding your particular quirkiness when it comes to shipping methods can be worked out with a simple conversation prior to or following your purchase.
Insurance is available upon request, but will incur a nominal, additional fee.
If you have ANY questions, never hesitate to pose them.
Refunds and Exchanges
I do not offer refunds. Any damages or losses due to shipping errors would be issues covered by insurance.
Additional Policies and FAQs
All Items you purchase from me will come with a certificate of authenticity, filled out, signed and dated by myself; as well as an artist bio and, in the case of oil paintings, information about the process behind the individual piece of art you've chosen to own. I work in a frame shop and an art gallery (of sorts) and one of my biggest complaints regarding the sale of artwork in the shop is that a great many pieces haven't any accompanying information available to enrich the buyer's experience.
I welcome any and all custom orders. If you'd like a portrait of a certain individual or you have a concept you'd like realized, I'd be more than happy to take the commission. Prices are based on size and the complexity of the subject matter; contact me for details.
A WORD ON "GICLEES" --
I would hope that many or most people who buy art are aware of what a giclee print is. "Giclee," as a word, is actually a messy marriage of two [supposedly] french words, each meaning, respectively and roughly, "spurt/spray" and "nozzle."
"Giclee" is a relatively new term created to aid in the sale of cheaply printed artwork -- i.e. prints created by an inkjet printer from a digital file... To the buyer, "Giclee" sounds much better than "inkjet, computer print-out."
The advantages to the struggling artist provided by high-resolution digital files and superior inkjet printers are immense, no doubt. One can create high-quality prints at home with a good scanner, printer and digital editing/correcting software.
Giclee prints are big business now, with Epson (among others) manufacturing huge [expensive] inkjet printers to create large prints. It's less messy than silk-screening and, when it comes to creating many prints on an industrial scale, it's less economical than lithography, it still has an edge on small-scale production. Nevertheless, a Giclee print is what it is, so to speak -- a digital file sprayed onto paper by a sophisticated, computerized apparatus. I should note, however, that these prints are indeed, in most cases, very nice and of a high quality and professional standard; more than suitable as "museum-quality" collectibles.
The prints I offer of my small drawings are scanned and printed at home, by me. I use high-resolution source files, HP 'Viveria' inks and acid-free cotton rag paper; and what you get is a beautiful product. But, as of this moment in my fiscal existence, I can only offer you these small prints (8.5" x 11"). In the future, however, I hope to be able to offer larger scales and printed editions of my paintings. In the meantime, the prints I do offer are of a professional quality yet very inexpensive. I have extensive experience with digital photography, editing and manipulation, and I know how to create an exceptional print.
