Kanzashi:

Kanzashi- Hair accessories. Famously worn by the maiko & geisha in Japan. Also by every day women for special events.

I've been making kanzashi since 2002.
I learned the hard way- by finding a vintage ruined one, tearing it apart and figuring out. I also eventually found aid in Japanese handicraft books.

My kanzashi are not mounted on paper backings.
They are flexible backings that allow movement but provide a sturdy foundation.
They are made with a high quality adhesive.

No fraying and the adhesive doesn't yellow over time.

There are certain products that I WILL NOT use for my work:

-Cheap satin fabrics. They look cheap and unprofessional.

-Snap barrettes they ruin the kanzashi as you have to press down on it and the weight will often make them slide out of your hair.

-Fake acrylic rhinestones. I reserve those for bedazzling tacky Halloween & roller derby costumes only. If you want "shiny" on your kanzashi- you're getting the real deal- Swarovski crystals.

Kimono fabric & full kimono purchases:

The kimono are unwashed.
The plural of kimono is kimono. ^_^
They might have an "aged" smell.
They are often packed with mothballs unfortunately and that is the way I receive them. They are mostly silk though and VINTAGE. ^_^

I recommend dry cleaning or airing them out on the line if they do have a smell.

Definitely NEVER wash in the washer or dry in the dryer.

Payment

Currently via Etsy I can only accept payment through Paypal.

I do accept other forms of payment through my own website.
Please contact me at info [!at] theastarr.com for payment options outside of Paypal.

Payment is due UPON CHECK OUT.
IF you are in a bind but NEED to have an item of mine. Please convo me first prior to purchasing.

Shipping

I ship domestically via United States Postal Service Priority Mail for ALL kanzashi orders.
They are carefully boxed and packed to insure that they arrive to you as they are pictured.

Fabric & other small items are shipped domestically & internationally via United States Postal Service First Class mail.

I ship daily with exception of orders received Friday through Sunday. They are shipped first thing Monday morning.

I do not include insurance into my standard shipping charge.
I can provide that for an extra fee- please just convo me ^_^

Domestic Mail- Please allow 3-7 days for your purchases to arrive. All of my kanzashi are mailed via USPS Priority mail.

All international orders are shipped through the US Mail Service too (First Class US Mail). Please allow 5-14+ days for international deliveries.
(Italy & Germany in the past has taken up to 20 days for delivery due to customs in those countries.)

Refunds and Exchanges

All sales are final.

I often accept custom orders for weddings, formals & anime conventions.
I also accept stores who which to order via wholesale and or consignment.
