owlsay's Shop Policies

Welcome

My basic goal is for a buyer to be genuinely thrilled with something they have purchased from my shop. If you are unhappy for any reason, please contact me and let me try to change that!

I have two other Etsy shops:
http://tatteredtapestry.etsy.com
http://thepaperhoarder.etsy.com
and my Dad has his own Etsy shop:
http://johnmorgandesigns.etsy.com

Follow my blog at http://thetatteredtapestry.blogspot.com

FYI - I work in smoke free environment. We do have a wonderful Basset Hound (Del) and a mutt we adopted from the pound (Dixie). They are outside dogs until it gets too cold or too hot - then they get to hang out in our utility room!

New to Etsy? Below is a guide to help you through the checkout process.
http://www.etsy.com/help_guide_checkout.php

Payment

Please pay within 3 days of purchase. If payment is not received within a day or so, I will send you a friendly reminder email. If I do not receive a response, the transaction will be canceled and the item relisted. Please, please, please be respectful and do not purchase something from my shop unless you intend to pay for it.

Paypal is the only method of payment accepted. You do not need a Paypal account to use their service. Paypal does not share any credit information with Owl Say. The only information I will see is your shipping address and your email address. Owl Say only uses this information to ship your order. If you still have reservations about using Paypal, please convo (email) me BEFORE purchasing.

Texas Residents will be charged an 8.25% tax rate.

Shipping

I generally ship the same day or next day an item is purchased. If an item is purchased on a Friday, it may not ship until Monday.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING ~ Shipping quoted is USPS First Class Mail. If for any reason, shipping expenses are $1 or more less then quoted, I will refund the difference. When I have shipped your item, you will receive an email with your tracking information.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING ~ International shipments (Canada included) are mailed using USPS International First Class Mail. A tracking number is not available via First Class Mail for International Shipments. If you require a tracking number, I can use Priority Mail at an additional charge. First Class mail packages usually take 7-10 days to arrive, but can take as long as 14 days. I WILL NOT be responsible for packages lost in the mail. Effective 12/17/09 I WILL NOT be refunding any money for packages that do not arrive to Canada or any other country. If you want a tracking number, you will need to pay for Flat Rate Priority Mail shipping ($12.95 USD).

By the way, every package that has ever been lost in my years of selling on Ebay and Etsy has been in the Toronto, Ontario area. And I'm not exaggerating!! If your package has to travel through this postal hub, you may want to consider upgrading to Priority Mail!

~*~*~ATTENTION~*~*~
I use the shipping address listed in Paypal. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR ETSY ADDRESS MATCHES YOUR PAYPAL ADDRESS. I try to double check before I print labels, but I might not catch the difference!!! If you need me to ship to a different address, that's no problem. Just put a note to seller or convo (email) me!

*^*^*^PRIORITY MAIL UPGRADE*^*^*^
Any US order over $40 ships Priority Mail at no additional charge. You can choose to upgrade any order to priority mail for an additional $3.25. That's the difference between my standard shipping & a Small Flat Rate Box or Envelope Shipping. Just convo me or put a note in your 'Comments to Seller' & I'll send you an invoice for the difference.

**International shipments generally take 7-14 business days to receive but can take as long as 21 business days, especially around any Holiday season!

Refunds and Exchanges

I do not offer refunds or returns, per se, but if you are unhappy with an item for any reason, convo me and let's work it out. My ultimate goal is for you to be thrilled with your purchase. If a refund is the final outcome, shipping the item back to me is the responsibility of the buyer.

I do my very, very best to accurately describe each item listed. Please email me any and all questions about an item before you purchase!

-◘-NOTES-◘-
Handmade ~ All items are handmade by myself. Try, though I might, I have not mastered perfection. However, I do try very hard to make sure nothing leaves my hands without it being as close to perfect as possible.

Recycling ~ At our house, we live by our Grandmother's policy of "Waste not, want not." We personally recycle cans, paper, plastic and any kind of metal we come across in our house restorations or items that would be thrown out by friends and family. It is sometimes frustrating to keep up with our own 'scrap heap', but we try to be good stewards of our environment.

I've definitely applied this philosophy to my shops--especially Owl Say. Any scrap of paper that is left over from a project is saved in an envelope and given or traded to other artisans who can use tiny bits of paper (and fabric) in their crafts. Paper scraps that are larger are used for the cutesy packaging. I also recycle boxes and packaging material. We use old envelopes, boxes and other packing material recycled from friends, family and even my husbands day job! We don't really think of this as 'Going Green', just as smart living. This is also how I'm able to offer such reasonable shipping rates. So, if you have received a business card holder in an envelope with a Wild West scene-you know why!

Construction ~ All of Owl Say's products are designed for regular, every day use. As a mom and someone known to friends as a little clumsy and hard on items, I have designed my products to be able to stand up to daily use. This is especially important when considering the use of pretty paper. My products, from business card holders to book covers, are lined with 65# card stock (or thicker, usually 110#). This allows you to slip in and out your cards, checkbook, passport and book over and over again without it effecting the pretty paper front. It's a little more work, but it's worth it to be able to offer a product you can use for a long time. To see detailed photos of the construction of our products, click on the link below. Bookmarks do not typically have the card stock backing. This is because you would not typically remove the paper insert and the paper insert is surrounded by the protective vinyl. Also, a lot of the paper I use is two sided, meaning there is a cute design on the front (what you see when you purchase) but there is also a cute design on the back. Eliminating the card stock also helps me keep the price low!

Usage ~ Any of the book covers you see listed on my site can double as calendar covers or Bible Book Covers. Bibles with paperback or thinner leather exteriors and bound (stapled or spiral bound) calenders with paper or plastic covers will fit inside my covers. As always, please make sure you measure the height and width (when laying open and flat) to make sure the book, calendar or Bible will fit inside the cover. My covers will also work for hardback books - please see the FAQs to find out which book cover is right for you.

FAQs

How do I know which book cover is right for me?

Paperback books are essentially issued in two formats: Mass Market Paperback or Trade Paperback. Mass Market Paperback books are usually 7”H and vary in width. These are your more commonly seen paperback in airports, grocery stores, etc. Trade paperback books are usually 8”-8.5”H and are generally thicker than Mass Market books. They are often an exact replica of a Hardback book, but with a soft cover. Publishers typically print books in three sizes “A Format” (4.33" x 7.01" Mass Market - most common), “B Format (5.12" x 7.8" Trade), “C Format (5.32" x 8.51" Trade). Owl Say offers covers to fit all three of these sizes -Small, Medium, Large

Will your book covers work for hardback books?

Yes, they will. Please make sure your hardback book is at least 1/4” shorter than the cover you are purchasing. For instance, an 8”-8-1/4” book will fit perfectly in an 8-1/2” (XL) Book cover. The book covers will also work for spiral bound or book bound address books or day planners with thin plastic covers as well as thin leather covered Bibles. Just make sure you check the size before purchasing. A more detailed description is given below.

How do I use your Paperback Book Covers?

Simply slide the front cover of your book into the front flap. Slide the back cover of your book into the back two straps. Wrap around the back flap of the cover and tuck the flap into the two straps. The book cover is adjustable to accommodate different book thicknesses. If you are skeptical about book thicknesses or would like to see detailed photos showing you how to insert your book, please click on the link below. This link will take you to Owl Say's flickr account. If you cannot click on the link, please cut and paste it into your browser. (Please email me if you have trouble viewing the link.)

How do I know which book cover size is right for me?

♦ BOOKS come in a variety of sizes. Here's some notes to help you determine which size is right for you!

• 7" Small: Most Mass Market Paperback books will fit in this size. Fits paperback books 6-7/8"H. Cover measurements are 7”H x 10”W.

• 8" Medium: This fits the next size up of Mass Market paperback books. Fits paperback books 7-7/8"H and hardback books 7-1/2"H. Cover measurements are 8"H x 11-3/4"W.

• 8.5" Large: Fits paperback books 8-1/2"H or hardback books 8"H. Cover measurements are 8-5/8"H x 12"W.

• 8-11/16" X-Large: Fits Paperback books measuring 8-3/4"H or hardback books measuring 8.5"H. Cover measurements are 8-11/16"H x 13"W.

• 10" Mega: Fits Paperback Books measuring 9-7/8"H or hardback books measuring 9-3/4"H. Cover measurements are 10"H x 15-1/2"W.

• Remember, only Owl Say book covers have an extra layer of 65# to 110# card stock protecting the decorative paper. This makes them tough and durable while allowing them to remain beautiful for a long time. Book jackets must be removed before inserting a book into one of Owl Say Design's book covers.

Can a book be too thick for your book covers?

Well, it's certainly possible, but it's unlikely. I make my book covers to cover the vast majority of sizes according to standards that most publishers follow. There are cases where the book cover will technically fit the book but the paper is slightly shorter than the book leaving the back flap of the book uncovered by the paper by millimeters to a couple of centimeters. The book will still be protected by the vinyl cover, but the paper insert may be a little shorter than the book. Again the book would still be protected and not enough of the book would be revealed for your privacy to be compromised. I like to know the answers to all 'what-ifs' whenever possible, so I want to make that information available to you too. If you have any concerns about the fit of the covers, just email me. I'm happy to help you find the cover right for you, or even tell you my covers will not work for you.

Will your Checkbook Covers work for duplicate checks?

Owl Say’s Checkbook Covers will work for top tear duplicate checks. There is a flap that allows you to separate your checks. They will not, however, work for side tear checks. Check registers are not included.

Are all passports the same size?

All US passports are the same size. The International Civil Aviation Authority issues passport standards which are treated as recommendations to all national governments. But, not all countries follow these guidelines. Japan, for instance, does not. If you live outside the US, please measure your passport prior to purchasing. When measuring your passport, please take into account the height. It's usually only 2-3mm, but it can make a difference!

Some countries follow the basic layout but use different paper codes. This makes the passport very close to the size of a US passport, but slightly larger (by mm or even 1cm). Again, please measure prior to purchasing.

Will your passport covers fit Canadian Passports?

I've had conflicting information in this regard. Apparently, some residents in the Ontario area have passports that will fit in Owl Say's covers, but those in other provinces have passports that are slightly larger. Again, please measure before you purchase.

Can I return my passport cover if it does not fit my passport?

No. Every passport cover listing has the size of the cover and the size of a U.S. Passport in both metric and standard measurements. If you do not have a U.S. issued passport, please be sure of the size before you purchase.
