Here in New York we've been having an unfortunate spring, as the past few weeks have brought us some yucky rain and surprisingly chilly temperatures. Note the discarded, busted umbrellas in the wind tunnel near the Etsy Labs:
However, we're closing in on the outdoor season and the bikes are getting pulled out of their winter hibernation.
May has been declared National Bike Month, and thanks to the League of American Bicyclists, the third Friday in May (this Friday, May 16!) has been National Bike to Work Day since 1956. Lots of major cities have events planned for Friday and the rest of the month, so if you're here in NYC with us, check out the Bike Month NYC site, or search online to see what's going on near you. So rain or shine, be ready to get on your bike and ride!
P.S. Plus, we can use the break from the gas prices...
P.P.S. Someone should invent a biodegradable umbrella...
Get ready for bike season by bringing out your bike this Friday. Here's to National Bike to Work Day!

This shows how sheltered a life I lead, I had no clue people would just drop their umbrellas when they stopped working.
Yay for National Bike Month!

I am a regular biker and I love biking to work. It is a great way to incorporate exercise in your daily routine, plus you are being friendly to the environment! Everyday should be a bike day!

Yay for Bike to Work Day! In our town, we've been having Bike to Work Week, and it's been both amazingly fun and really challenging. Why-oh-why do I have to live at the top of one hill and work at the top of a different, much higher hill?
Lying on the floor and nursing sore muscles is seriously cutting into my crafting time...

what, people just drop their rubbish brollys on the street when their broken, or did a bin blow over?

Reminded me of a story:Bought an umbrella from a street vendor, went to use it in the pouring rain, pushed the button to open, and the whole umbrella(minus the handle) shot off like a rocket!! Smashed my friend right in the chest...I felt like The Penguin in BATMAN! LOL!

OMG Kitty107.
Jellybat, my sister in law was making a skirt out of upcycled umbrellas! I think she got the idea from Craft Magazine...

LA celebrates Bike to Work Day today instead. And it was so great to see everyone come out to our pit stop this morning. Hooray for bikes!

Yay! I'm planning to bike to work tomorrow! I'm lucky to have a pretty good bike route now. It'll get harder when I have to split my time elsewhere (much farther away).

We have a bike-rally every half year. In spring it was before Earth day, on 20th April. There were 80 000 bikers on the streets of Budapest!! This was the largest biker-happening since the beginning of the Critical Mass movement!
It was sooo good to see that much of people on bike. :-)
