A Fond Farewell to the King of Pop

Here at Etsy, the community mourns the loss of Michael Jackson by paying tribute rooted in creativity. Throughout his career, MJ was a figure of innovation: a global phenomenon who broke down boundaries not just in music, but race and culture as well. With the best selling record of all time, a repertoire of music videos that redefined the medium, and an edgy style that sparked trends around the world, Michael serves as a constant reminder that the greatest threat to art is compliance.

To do Jackson's legacy justice, we channel his inspiration in order to create something fresh and original.  Let's all take a moment out of our day to moonwalk across our studios, and collectively express, "R.I.P. MJ!"

Which Michael Jackson era helped you come of age? Reminisce in the comments below!

I miss him so much. Long live the King! xo.

June 26, 2009 at 3:01 p.m. beautifulbridget

His "Thriller" had the most impact on me....what a bummer that he's gone!

June 26, 2009 at 3:03 p.m. missindie

Haha I remember when I was 5 or 6 and I spent hours in our kitchen trying to moonwalk across the tile floor. I could NEVER get it right and got so frustrated :P

I still can't moonwalk.

So sad too. I can't believe he is gone!

June 26, 2009 at 3:15 p.m. cozycottagecreations

So sad. I still can't believe it. He truly is a legend and will be so missed.

I used to watch the Jackson 5's animated series when I was little. I love them so much even back then. I have a vivid memory of wanting them (their animated selves) to visit me in my kindergarten class. I would look at my kindergarten door and image Michael's face waving to me through the window. I feel like I grew up with Michael. I guess I did. Even my daughter's now - age 6 and 8 recognize his music and get excited when it comes on the radio - I couldn't bring myself to tell them yesterday that he died.

Nice tribute!

Would love to see one on Farrah Fawcett, too.

I am brainstorm putting together a Michael Jackson remembrance plush of him in the 80's. Ideas for Farrah Fawcett are coming to me too. I feel that helps us remember them before they ran into such adversity.

June 26, 2009 at 3:17 p.m. dreamypleasures

He was my age - so we grew up together. He will be missed.

I always think of the Thriller video - a creation truly inspired! He'll be welcomed home ~ All is Well

June 26, 2009 at 3:21 p.m. edithandlulu

I used to do my chores to the Thriller album. In 3rd grade we used to shut down class every Friday at 2PM to listen to it and dance. All the boys would try to impress the girls with their moonwalks.

June 26, 2009 at 3:23 p.m. cathypeng

His death came as such a shock! RIP MJ.

I remember as a kid dancing in front of the mirror with my record player spinning Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall"
Pretty overwhelming, no matter what went on through his life he was a huge part of our popular culture, even throughout the world, but he is a true US icon for sure. I'm glad the storque did this nice little tribute, he was too huge to overlook.

June 26, 2009 at 3:29 p.m. JulieMeyer

I loved Michael Jackson in the 80's! I just showed my 10 year old and his friend the Thriller and Beat It videos on Youtube and they've been trying to moonwalk.

June 26, 2009 at 3:31 p.m. PoleStar

Thriller was the first album I ever owned. My friend and I used to lay it on our brown Fisher Price record player and dance until we dropped. Such fond memories of him.

June 26, 2009 at 3:43 p.m. SaucyBird

I'm so sad, the world lost a great talent. I remember dancing around in my friend's basement as a kid, trying to learn the moves to Thriller. In college Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' was the song they always used to shut down the club. A few years ago a guy in my old neighborhood used to cruise the streets blaring PYT. (So obnoxious, but we couldn't help but smile when we heard it.) MJ's music has always been there, from the time I was a child until now. I hope he now has the peace he so greatly deserves.

Well I would have to go back as far as the Jackson five growing up in the 70's was great ...Also have to state Farrah will be missed too..

June 26, 2009 at 3:47 p.m. hozzlebozzle

Can't believe it..... I'm numb with shock... I can't believe he's gone... he was the first pop star I ever became obsessed with... I remember making home video music videos as a kid, with my little brothers, busting moves to Michael Jackson's album Bad... Man, I still try to do the moonwalk in clubs every time one of his songs comes on... I was just making a fool of myself attempting it last Friday night... I just can't absorb this.... its a stunning tragedy...

June 26, 2009 at 3:49 p.m. OceanGrrl

Definitely Thriller would have to be the album that did it for me. Such a sad day.

June 26, 2009 at 4:04 p.m. Bananaberries

Such sad news. M.J's music was a part of my childhood-Adult hood.
He accomplished alot and touched so many world wide.

June 26, 2009 at 4:08 p.m. RightAsRainCreations

I used to sing Billie Jean all the time - it drove my mom crazy as I was 11 at the time and she didn't think it was very appropriate. When I think about what 11 year olds listen to today, I have to laugh!

I also owned several MJ gloves in my sticker collection. The white velvet one with the spangles was my favorite.

I hope you are at peace, Michael. My thoughts are with your family.

The news of his death gave me chills. That doesn't usually happen to me when I hear that someone famous has died.
One of my all-time favorite songs he sang is "Who's Loving You". To sing like that at such a young age... Wow.

What a loss with Farrah too.

June 26, 2009 at 4:32 p.m. pinkdandyshop

I think that the entire world will remain in shock for a long time because of the loss of M.J. What an icon!!

My favorite childhood memory was when I was a little girl. I told all my friends that Michael Jackson was going to come to my birthday party. He was there, but, poster style. A huge poster of Michael Jackson hung up proudly in my mothers kitchen. The funny thing is that none of the kids or myself even realized that he wasn't ACTUALLY there because he WAS.

R.I.P Michael!

June 26, 2009 at 4:35 p.m. odiliafu

So sad!! "One Day in Your Life" is always my fave.

June 26, 2009 at 4:38 p.m. RubyStudios

My parents have a cassette tape (remember those?) with my little brother and I when we were about 7 and 4 singing "Beat it! Beat it!" and then a mumble of nonsensical words in our tiny little chipmunk voices. What was he saying in that song anyway?
Sad for anyone to pass away so young.

June 26, 2009 at 4:39 p.m. mermaidglass

Such a shock! I grew up outside Gary, IN and loved the Jackson 5 when I was little! I would wander around the house singing 'I'll Be There' until I drove everyone crazy. He was a true original with the talent to pull it off.

Hearing children running around on the streets of Haifa, Israel in 1985, singing "We are the World" in their heavily accented english...as they laughed and played tag...
a moment I will never forget.

June 26, 2009 at 5:04 p.m. EfiaFair

Thanks Etsy, for this. I love this tribute and all the comments. His music is so entwined with my youth I don't know where to begin. But I do remember that the "Thriller" video used to SCARE me! :) I remember going to the roller skating rink (before in-line skates) and the floor was bumpy wooden, and the place was a little creepy to begin with, and every time they played Thriller, I loved it but I was frightened too.
Peace be with you, Michael.

June 26, 2009 at 5:05 p.m. MadLexVintage

I still have a very vivid memory of my favorite t-shirt from the 80's. I was about 8, it was yellow (my favorite color back then) and it had an iron on of MJ dressed in white. I wore that shirt so much, eventually the picture withered away... Last night, as I organized items from my shop, I pulled out my MJ greatest hits CD and blasted it. He will be missed!! xoxox

June 26, 2009 at 5:08 p.m. cherdak

So sad when someone leaves this world at such a young age. He was a legend and will be missed greatly ! I can't stop watching TV today, MTV got a tribute to him all day long. Great memories. Thriller was the 1st album that I've heard in the early 90s when I was in high school back in Latvia. Good times...

June 26, 2009 at 5:08 p.m. laslopezlas

Wonderful tribute. RIP MJ.

June 26, 2009 at 5:13 p.m. istiferet

I remember my listening to Thriller with my older cousins thinking it was the coolest thing EVER! I was really, really young, like maybe 6, and the album had been out for a few years... but that was a fond early memory. It's just so hard to believe because you expect people like Michael Jackson to just be there- forever... I am sad.

June 26, 2009 at 5:13 p.m. cleobelle

Great tribute Etsy. RIP Michael xo

June 26, 2009 at 5:14 p.m. dinafragola

I remember staying up till midnight to watch the entire Thriller video for the first time!
And a bit off topic, I never could convince my mom to get me the Charlie's Angels action figures, but I did get a Michael Jackson one :)

June 26, 2009 at 5:16 p.m. sunbasilgarden

One person that connected the entire world..no matter where you live- you knew MJ!

June 26, 2009 at 5:17 p.m. lolos

Thank you Etsy for posting something about "The King of Pop" Michael Jackson. It's hard to believe it's gone. I love his music and videos a lot. He'll be missed! Descansa en Paz Michael! Mi idolo se fue :-(((

June 26, 2009 at 5:17 p.m. decoratethediva

Thriller... we all know the moves! I was remembering the fun I had listening to MJ in the eighties with my friends and learning all the words and moves to his MTV videos. Very sad!

June 26, 2009 at 5:18 p.m. cbeatty23

Jeez, I can't even pick a favorite song of his - I can't even think of one I don't like! I grew up watching Moonwalker with my cousins and we would act out every video on there. What's cool now is seeing my youngest brother (only 14) experiencing MJ now, with all the videos they have been showing the past 2 days, with the same enthusiasm as I did when I was like 10. Michael was pure magical talent that transcends time and generations. I'll definitely miss him, but his music lives on for all to continue to enjoy!

June 26, 2009 at 5:20 p.m. GreenPost

Off The Wall is still one of my favorite albums- especially side 1. Thriller is a classic and reminds me so much of my childhood watching lots of MTV.
Hearing that Michael passed away actually made me cry. RIP.

June 26, 2009 at 5:25 p.m. moonstr

billie jean was the first song i heard.
then i had to hear more. use to take my

June 26, 2009 at 5:39 p.m. BlackRose1

I just dug out my scrapbook of the Jackson 5 that I made in 1973 and reminisced....I've grown up with him - he will be missed and I hope that he is now at peace.

June 26, 2009 at 5:41 p.m. mysticwynd

I guess I'm still in shock over the news of his death and wondering how the drama surrounding the end of his life will unfold.

I'm two months younger that Michael Jackson was, so I basically grew up right along side his career. From his very young Jackson Five days through the rest of his career, he was an amazing talent, although I must admit that the past decade saddened me with all the drama surrounding his life and his strange behaviors.Believe it or not, I still have the Jackson Five's ABC and I'll Be There singles on 45's, as well as Michael's later solo, Ben - one of my favorites.

I hope he is finally at rest and that the world will forget the negative and remember the incredible gift to the world that was Michael Jackson.

June 26, 2009 at 5:41 p.m. Lunaversoul

He has managed inspire us all through his music, talent, style & dance for generations. He will continue to do so even after his death.
Peace be with you Micheal Jackson.

June 26, 2009 at 5:42 p.m. AnniesWearableArt

An incomperable loss. My deepest sympathies to his loved ones and my fellow fans. It's so sad that many only define Michael Jackson by Thriller. That is such a small part of a music archive that goes back to the early 70's...my faves are the tunes he sang with his brothers. And those early in his career: faves: "Don't Stop till You Get Enough", "Dancin Machine" "Shake Your Body Down" and (get out the tissue for these folks) "One Day in Your Life", "Maybe Tomorrow", "Ben", "Never Can Say Goodbye", "Got to Be There", and "I'll Be There"...if you do not know these songs, do yourself a huge favor...you'll have new reasons to love his music all over again!

June 26, 2009 at 5:43 p.m. younghairlove

i... just can't believe he is gone, maybe he is making us an Elvis; off to a sunny island trying to forget it all and specially these mad tour dates he had planned in London.
I remember in France, i must have been about 8 or nine years old and the tv made a special cut in the programm to play the 1st michael jackson video of thriller with all the zombies and stuff, I remember being so scared i ran to my bed covered myself with the blankets trying to not listen to the zombie voice, it wasa horrific.
I then fell in love with him, he was just so sexy.
I can't believe he is dead. i just dont believe it. Maybe it s a scam, surely it is, because michael can never die.
I was though very sorry to hear about the child allegations against him, he left my heart at this point. But i can still appreciate the music genius he was. Michael, be safe, rest in peace.

Such sad news, he was so talented!
I have so many great childhood memories listening to his music and watching his videos. I remember being 6 years old and his BAD album was my favorite thing to listen and dance along to.

June 26, 2009 at 6:06 p.m. TheRubyKitten

I was there mostly with the Thriller stage, I had a pair of parachute pants and the red leather jacket with all the zippers, funny how those things disappear and I never knew where they went....
I will always remember him in my coming of age years!
I will miss him, but his music will always be here

June 26, 2009 at 6:08 p.m. JudiPaintedit

Oh I have to say it. The zombie head..... Does that have to do with his face being all messed up????

June 26, 2009 at 6:16 p.m. COGnitivecreations

No doubt he went through a lot, but his creative genius will live on forever.

June 26, 2009 at 7:09 p.m. michelle3993

My heart aches I remember long nights as a teenager in a small west texas town. Writing down his lyrics in a notebook, I remember baton twirling to his song. My first kiss to his song, my 15 year old daughter has held my hand and listened to my stories of what his music was to me. He's life was his life he made many mistakes as we all do. His music and his children will be his legacy! Tears well my eyes the thought of those gorgeous children without their father tonight! Forever your fan Michael! You will live in my heart!

June 26, 2009 at 7:12 p.m. sylstrawbridge

I remember watching the Jackson 5 with Michael...A,B, C, easy as 1, 2, 3...he was awesome then and only got better when he left the family. Thriller was awesome! I'm so sorry for his inner conflicts; no doubt brought about by his domineering father...so sad. I hope he is finally at peace with himself. His music will keep his spirit alive.

June 26, 2009 at 7:22 p.m. michvanetta

I remember "making up" dances with my sisters to the Jackson Five, "Don't Blame it on the Sunshine......"
Thriller had the most impact me as I grew older.

He will live on in the hearts of many.

Michael Jackson was a talented and gifted performer. His passing makes me sad.

June 26, 2009 at 8:31 p.m. ficklefaerie

I can remember having the sixteen magazine pinups of him on one wall and Donny Osmond on the other wall...they were both my heros when I was a teenager :(

Really so tragic..what a great talent!

June 26, 2009 at 8:43 p.m. bijougirldesigns

very sad.

June 26, 2009 at 8:44 p.m. magicjelly

Not only was he a truly unique talent, but his career trajectory epitomised the double-edged sword of fame & power.

All of that aside, he made the most exuberant, joyous music. My favourite album is Off the Wall - he looked great back then too. He left behind a legacy of amazing music.

June 26, 2009 at 8:57 p.m. That70sShoppe

His music was part of my life and it seems really strange to think he is gone. But his music will live on with all the millions of copies of records, cds, etc. he sold.

June 26, 2009 at 9:03 p.m. forrestinavintage

Since I'm a Gen X'er, the 80s was the biggest era for Michael, and for me. He was so fantastic in the Off the Wall and Thriller days--just wowed us all. Weather we liked him or not in his personal life he was an undeniable talent and will be missed. What a legacy his music will carry. Wishing peace for his children and the family as well.

June 26, 2009 at 9:07 p.m. OneEcoTree

So sad to see a great icon like that go. I never was a huge fan as I was more into the 90s growing up, but I love listening to the Jackson 5...I think because it was all innocent then. He'll live on :)

June 26, 2009 at 9:11 p.m. BragAboutIt

I do not think there are any words to describe such a tragic loss ... Etsy Sellers said it beautifully - WHAT A TALENT - WE WILL MISS YOU MICHAEL !!!

June 26, 2009 at 9:30 p.m. GiggleRainbow

Michael Jackson's music was such a big part of my life. More recently I felt a bit sad for him. It seemed as if needed some help, like he was searching for something real in his life some kind of meaning, Maybe a true friend. I liked so much of his music but Beat It is at the top of the list. Michael Jackson you will be missed.

June 26, 2009 at 9:33 p.m. skullyb

He was a music genius and will be greatly missed.
I will forever listen and love his songs.

June 26, 2009 at 10:05 p.m. theartistscloset

so young (we're the same age) I grew up lovin the Jackson 5. Loved the way Michael moved to the music - he was so connected to it. MJ did have Vitiligo, which I also have, and can relate to how difficult it can be. Life certainly has had challenges for him - my hope for you now MJ, is that you may RIP.

I remember when I finally learned the Moonwalk and showed everyone in 5th grade. We were sooo excited to learn it. I would watch the "Making of Thriller" video all the time. Every video we eagerly anticipated his dance moves.

Thanks, Michael for entertaining us all of these years. &hearts

It's amazing how much a person you never meet can touch our lives through their talent.

I had the pleasure to meet Michael Jackson about 15 years ago after he had watched the Excalibur medieval show in Las Vegas that I once performed in. He had a rush of people around him and was very kind to sign his autograph when I was going up the escalator. My memories of that day will always be very special. He leaves all of us with his incredible talent and love for performing.

And there we were, seems like just a few years ago, dancing it up in Motown to techno, acid jazz, hip hop, classics, modern, old school, whatever we personally jived to, in anti-clubs, abandoned-building modern day "speakeasies", fantastic, happy, livin'-it-up-to-the-fullest groove sites, before we even really understood (or could comprehend) what a recession meant (after all, we were all poor), when the djs, my fellow acquaintances also from my youth, would throw on an MJ album into the mix and all the arms would go up as if in praise of and welcoming the rhythm, HIS rhythm, black white whatever didn't matter all over, arms in the air, swaying hips and moving lips, content peaceful places and THEN we really started started dancing because he was the king... and we were together here in Motown...

My mother was an adult when the Jackson 5 came out on Motown Records, and remembers she and other adults singing along with their songs!

I loved the Off the Wall album when I was in 1st or 2nd grade - I remember singing and dancing to those songs. But of course it was the Thriller album when I was in middle school that changed the world! We all had such crushes on him!

I also remember the Jackson 5 reunion on Motown 25, which sequed into his solo performance of Billie Jean, with him moonwalking across the stage on a little black and white tv in my bedroom because my parents were watching something else on the big tv....(what was WRONG with them!?!?)

I could go on and on. I grew up with him. I've been saddened by his tortured growth, and have marveled at his talent and his effect on music, dance and entertainment. It doesn't seem right that he's so suddenly gone.

June 27, 2009 at 9:41 a.m. slouchiehats

I am the same age as Michael Jackson, and I can remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old being so enamored with him. As he grew up I grew up with him. I never missed a time when he was on t.v. I was in college when he came out with "Thriller". Friends and I were at a dance bar and the new thing was having a large screen next to the dance floor. When "Thriller" came on our lives changed forever. He will be missed.

His music will live in our hearts forever.

June 27, 2009 at 10:49 a.m. LavenderLeaf

In the 80's I played the Thriller album over and over again till I drove my folks crazy with it. I begged for the red Michael Jackson leather jacket and got it for Christmas one year. I wore it EVERYWHERE even in the middle of summer when it was so hot. I'm still in shock that he is gone but I believe now he can finally have some peace. Great article. We'll miss you MJ!!

June 27, 2009 at 10:49 a.m. AshleyGrace

I loved Michael since the age of 8. Grew up with him in my life. I'm from the generation that got to see him take the music world by surprise. He was my first crush and I never quite got over him. He was larger than life and the coolest dude on the planet.

It's so hard to image that he is gone. Since his passing I have been glued to the TV. Watching his life and legacy unfold. Rev Jackson said "That we are out of our joy and he is out of his pain". I will miss him for the rest of my life.

June 27, 2009 at 11:35 a.m. SunsetSurf

I can't believe he is gone..i was 3 or 4 when i got the thriller album, i still remember playing it over and over. my 2nd grade reward for good grades was the BAD tape. i even had his "Moonwalker" shoes. He was my musical hero and first crush. His songs were the soundtrack to my childhood, and i feel as if a little of my childhood went with him. Good bye, Michael... when ever i hear your songs i will always be transformed into that little girl that danced and sang her heart out in her backyard to you.

June 27, 2009 at 11:39 a.m. FreshEra

I was 11 when Thriller came out, and just starting to form opinions about music. Michael Jackson shaped so much of my adolescence, and how I viewed my world. Watching him dance made the hair on my arms stand up - I couldn't believe a human being could be that talented. I never stopped loving his early music, even later when it was no longer "cool" to openly be an MJ fan. I like to remember him looking like he did in 1983.

My favorite song is Rock With You from his Off the Wall album, followed by PYT from Thriller. I am crushed that he is gone - it's hard to think about the world without him in it. I am so thankful that he shared his gifts with us.

June 27, 2009 at 12:06 p.m. rozzissweetpeas

Oh my, words can't express my sorrow. I know that he is up there celebrating with the ANGELS. He will be missed, so sorry that the world did not appreciate him when he was here. Love to MJ.

June 27, 2009 at 1:02 p.m. frstyfrolk

I remember hearing him as the JACKSON FIVE on the radio in the 1970's an as he grew up, I remember! My cherished memory is the Super Bowl Half-time show he did with the Children of the World. And then, the video of all artists singing this song, "We are the World".

I also love the song, "I'll be There" and "Lady of my Life"

I probably would not have gone to see him in concert but I did respect his music as A GREAT and his dancing as HIS CREATION! I was on his side when he was tried and we all waited for the verdict and I remember loving he was found "Not Guilty".
HE was a ROCK LEGEND!
God Bless You Michael!
Smiles, Cyndi

Off the Wall was the first record album I ever saved up my own hard-earned money to buy. I replaced it on CD a few years back because it's still one of the best albums ever made. (I highly recommend that cd--there's some alternate versions of a few songs and an interview with producer Quincy Jones.) I am sad for the loss of this amazing talent and also kind of relieved that he's finally relieved of the intense public scrutiny. I hope his children will be free of that in their lives.

I really feel for his children & hope the media really show some respect towards a grieving family .. and regardless of Michaels personal life & many issues as a result of being a child star, I hope he is at peace now knowing the huge impact he had on so many lives around the world, not only through his music but the global attention he brought to world hunger, poverty & race to remind us that aside from being famous, we are all human & can make a difference.

This, together with his music, style & his ever increasing levels of creativity, he will never be forgotten, on so many levels x

Being a huge E.T. fan, I had the album where Michael Jackson told the story of the movie. He sounded really sweet and sympathetic talking about an alien creature with a big heart. He didn't quite seem of this world. I remember his videos being big television events and going over to a friend's house and watching a VHS copy of the "Thriller" video.
I made a collage set on Polyvore inspired by Michael Jackson:

T also grew up with Michael. I had a mad crush on him and had every album he made. I knew every song... I still have a CD in my car and shove it in every now and then, just to go back to the days when he was a kid and things were simple. I know Michael is in a better place but sure wish he could have made that last tour before leaving us.I will always wonder if he could have "outdid" his achievements.... he was amazing! He lives on through his music and his fans. He made his mark.

June 28, 2009 at 6:35 p.m. walkthetalk

I am glad to see Etsy publish this article on Michael Jackson. He is one of the most amazing artists of history who paved the way for other artists and changed the face of pop music and music video.

June 28, 2009 at 8:40 p.m. envellop

I was about 10 when he did a music video for that movie, Free Willy, about the orca whale... And I was madly in love with him, haha. I had mixed feelings about him as an adult, with anger and confusion as well as some compassion, but his passing was just completely shocking.

June 28, 2009 at 9:05 p.m. artsharkdesigns

The first tape I ever owned was Thriller. I used to dance around my basement in my footie PJs to Billie Jean for hours! He will be missed.

June 28, 2009 at 9:21 p.m. helloearthling

I grew up dancing to the tune of Billie Jean. I have his cassette tapes and a vinyl record. I don't think I'll be recycling them. Maybe I'll just keep them. Rest in peace, MJ.

June 28, 2009 at 9:26 p.m. SassysWackdOutGifts

my cousin Sheri and I were great fans of his and I just want to say this is very shocking and very sad for all of us.

June 28, 2009 at 11:34 p.m. pjcollect

This is a tragic loss for all music fans. Michael Jackson was a natural talent. His dancing and music was extraordinary, and he will be sorely missed.

He went too soon.

June 28, 2009 at 11:48 p.m. alexandrarosie

So Sad~ I can't get his music out of my head. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family. I pray for his children. Rest in peace Michael.

June 29, 2009 at 12:38 a.m. sparklinglotusdesign

I always loved roller skating to his songs while the video's played on a larger than life screen at the local roller rink. Thriller was definitely my favorite album. I will always remember him as a sensitive soul.

June 29, 2009 at 12:52 a.m. recycledwares

I thought I'd never reach the end of this blog. You can tell by the many posts that michael is loved and missed. I hope the hearts of his children get healed and the family finds comfort. I hope people remember the positive things michael did with his life. I hope he is seen as a regular human being, just like you and I.

June 29, 2009 at 5:07 a.m. magdamom1

Truly one of the sweetest souls to ever walk the earth. Such a talent. The words 'Genius' and 'Icon' are not enough to describe this beautiful man. Michael will be the brightest shining star in our sky, as he always was the brightest of our time.

June 29, 2009 at 5:53 a.m. Iammie

Goodbye MJ. Rest in peace.

June 29, 2009 at 7:04 a.m. tinyspace

he will be missed. for sure

June 29, 2009 at 9:49 a.m. EarthBabyDesigns

RIP, Michael

I came of age in the "Thriller" era. Music came out on cassette tapes then. The Thriller cassette was first one I ever bought. I'd sit in my room at night and listen to it over and over on my boom box. (Remember those?) Loved "That Girl is Mine," "Beat It," and "Baby Be Mine." My bedroom wall was covered in MJ posters. My favorite was one with MJ in a yellow sweater vest and white button down shirt. What I wouldn't give to have that one again!

June 29, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. lucky0girl0racer

I was at work when a patient told me the bad news. Ruined my day. My prayers to his family and close friends. He was truly the KING OF POP!

June 29, 2009 at 10:44 a.m. robins8

interesting that the medias goal was basically to do him in yet now that he is dead he is an icon to them. his fans always knew he was an icon and stood by him, congrats to them, we'll miss you Michael.

June 29, 2009 at 12:11 p.m. loveslothjenni

I was home sick from work a few days before he died and ended up watching the America's Best Dance Crew tribute show to his Thriller album. It was a great tribute! (You can watch for free on MTV's website - it's partway through Season One of the show.) I'm really glad that I got to remember him fondly, rather than thinking about all the negatives, when I heard that he was gone.

June 29, 2009 at 12:52 p.m. LittleCritters00

I am so sadden of his passing.

June 29, 2009 at 1:11 p.m. yaffa86

I feel so bad, I could not believe it when I heard it, he was one of those that could not be duplicated.

RIP Michael

June 29, 2009 at 1:36 p.m. rockzeecouture

I feel like part of my life has been lost. Growing up I had his poster on my wall and loved many of his songs. He and his family are in my prayers.

June 29, 2009 at 2:02 p.m. GLORIACASTANEDA

Rockzeecouture i know what you mean. I felt the same way. Some people just don't understand.

June 29, 2009 at 3:20 p.m. chocolateandsteel

I love knowing that I was not the only one who spent hours trying to learn how to moonwalk in my living room.

I loved all eras of his music but the 80's I am most fond of.

June 29, 2009 at 4:41 p.m. itsMyDesign87

It's so sad that he is gone. I didn't believe it when I first heard about it...I through it was one of those spoof rumors that are always spread. But, he's really gone, and it's still shocking to me. I listened to his songs almost everyday on my ipod...and since the day he died that's all I've listened to. its crazy!

Rest In Peace Michael!!

June 29, 2009 at 4:58 p.m. LillysCottage

Rest in peace Michael. You sure did "thrill" us with your talent! You will be so missed!

June 29, 2009 at 4:58 p.m. LDCraftSupplies

I grew up to you as a part of the Jackson Five, and my son danced to all of your great music, on his beginnings.

It is so sad that people so young must leave us so early.

Someone has a bigger job for you now!

You will always remain in our hearts!

June 29, 2009 at 5 p.m. rollerscait

I love this. Thank you so much for recognizing a truly great human being.
Peace. Love. MJ.
Forever

June 29, 2009 at 5:18 p.m. DiBeauDesigns

My name's Diana and I had to go through a lot of teasing when "Dirty Diana" came out.
It's sad that he died and I feel sorry for his kids and his family, but I think he's getting too much coverage and hero worship. He was a disturbed person and possibly a pedophile.
Sosrry but that's how I feel.

June 29, 2009 at 5:47 p.m. hypnoticjewels

Amazing, one of a kind artist!! RIP MJ you'll never be forgotten..

Wow. Still such a shock to me! I watch tv or hear a song and still can't come to grips with the fact that he is gone. Just goes to show how precious life is. He was a wonderful gift given to us for such a short season. His life is one that will keep giving and giving for many years to come! May god bless and keep his children and his family in his love and care.
Thanks for taking the time to allow us to say our goodbyes.
When I think of him I will think of the song " Smile" from Nat King Cole.
He will forevor be that smile to my heart and Im sure for you also.

June 29, 2009 at 11:55 p.m. Lillycat36

I'm so sad that MJ is gone. He would be so devastated by what will be happening with his children. He was such a talent. So creative beyond most people's comprehension.
So tragic. I hope he is at peace!

I remember working in a retail store when the "Thriller" album came out. We couldn't keep it is stock. This went on for weeks. It made quite an impression on me at the time. I will never forget it. He will be missed. An unbelievable talent!

June 30, 2009 at 11:40 a.m. myfarmhousekitchen

I just loved Michael so much. I just can not beleive he is gone. I have visited the Neverland gate twice and left him notes. I need to go back. What a talented man. He will be missed...but his music will forever live on.
Rest in Peace, Michael.
We love you.

Long live the king of pop! He was definitely an icon for our generation. My friend was at the memorial service in LA and she said it was CRAZY!!! There were so many people there. It seems MJ is getting the respect he deserves.

The best entertainer in the world ! Loved the man ! He was amazing ! May he find piece and comfort wherever he is ! RIP MJ ! We will always love you !

June 30, 2009 at 1:17 p.m. RentaBauble

I blogged this topic the other day, too, at http://etsylounge.blogspot.com. I hate to report that as the rumors of MJ's passing was hitting the interent -- before anything was confirmed -- some Etsians were hocking all sorts of memorabilia that reminded me of Ebay and kind of grossed me out. I'm talking used Farrah hot-curler sets, bad snapshots of MJ concerts, etc. To me, that isn't the handmade ethic and not a tasteful tribute to such an artist like MJ. I only blogged items that were listed prior to Thursday, to weed out the opportunists.

June 30, 2009 at 1:26 p.m. faithonearth

We will all miss you very much MJ.

June 30, 2009 at 1:28 p.m. berhead63

How lovely to log onto Etsy and see this tribute! So nice to read the memories of the King of Pop. My first memory...I was 9 years old in 1972 drinking Shirley Temples with my cousins at their parents lake community center. And Rockin' Robin came on the juke box...I'll never forget that. Thank you MJ for the memories and the legacy.

When my son, Austin, was 2 years old Thriller was released. I immediately ran to the store and bought it. When I couldn't find my son, I knew he would be in my bedroom, playing Thriller and dancing a two-year-old's jig. Since that time, MJ has been a part of our household. Thank you, Michael, for introducing my son to your world of music!!!

July 1, 2009 at 6:57 p.m. DJsArt

I am a year younger than MJ. We (my friends and classmates) all thought it was great that he was our age and singing, dancing, right up there with all the older singers. It gave our generation the inspiration to dream that anything was possible.

He will be missed :(

What a sad event, an icon has passed. He definately made his mark on music.

July 3, 2009 at 1:07 a.m. esaro1820

He will be greatly missed and I'm still hoping that this is all a very bad dream, that I'll soon wake from. I would have have to say its for his 1991 TOUR, I was 10 back then and was amazed at how someone cared sooo sooo much for others and vowed to go to one of his concert, however that never came to pass.

July 3, 2009 at 11:50 a.m. girltuesdayjewelry

So tragic. He was truly brilliant as his songs and imagery became part of our collective consciousness. His song Wanna be Startin Something is my personal favorite.
