Back to School Fashion Showcase: On Sale Thursday, August 7, 2008

Dear Sellers,

Some people are already back to school, some are lucky and have a few weeks.  Whether at school or thinking about it, many are considering what they will need to spruce up their back to school (or back to work, for some of us) wardrobe.  We are looking to feature back to school fashion items in this showcase, such as dresses, shirts, skirts, pants — or that special first day of school outfit.  Think clothing staples for all ages. 

In order to keep the Showcase on point thematically, the tool will only pull in items placed in the Clothing Category (i.e. top-level tag being "clothing").

  • The Back to School Fashion Front Page Showcase goes on sale Thursday, August 7th at 3:00 pm EDT.
  • Go to the Showcase Gateway to purchase a spot.
  • Said showcase goes live on Tuesday, August 12 at 12 am (midnight) EDT and will run until 11:59 PM EDT on August 25.
  • For $15 USD, Etsy sellers can purchase a 24 hour spot in the The Back to School Fashion Showcase, which will be linked from a prominent banner on Etsy's homepage.
  • Sellers determine which item will be featured in your Showcase slot. Sellers must use the tool in Your Shop. Read more about this process here.

What about Dorm stuff? I was just in Target watching Arizona State Students snatch up everything they could to get their dorms livable and looking 'cool'. That included cool notepads, pens, stationary to write home to their friends and family with, etc...

Why just clothing?

Hello friends,
This is on our minds too!

Right now we have the ability to limit a Showcase to one category or nothing. We have had much feedback that themed Showcases without some sort of limit get diluted and are less appealing to shoppers and therefore the collective sellers who have purchased spots.

I'm hoping we'll have more info for you soon as we try to improve upon this.

Kinda cool but I'm from Australia and school went back over a month ago. Also clothing isn't a high priority for me when going back to studying, books, bags, pens and paper are.

I don't quite understand this. Are kids naked when they're not at school? People buy clothes all year round. Back to school is the time to buy amazing unique products like laptop sleeves made of seatbelts. Just sayin'.

Well, it's a nice idea but not terribly applicable internationally. In much of Europe and the UK (and I think much of Asia - maybe someone else will know) kids wear uniform to school.

It might work better if it was back to college?

I'm a bit disappointed that we can't list our messenger bags.

I think this is a great idea for a showcase, and I'm glad there will be some control over what is in it. I do wish that accessories were included as well, like jewelry, hats, etc.

What about "Back to School Supplies"? That would incorporate everything from accessories to dorm decor. I definitely think we could use a broader subject for this promotion.

i'm not going back to school, but i'll definitely be checking out this showcase as i LOVE making new fashion finds on etsy. my wardrobe is quickly becoming etsy-dominated!

Did the Back To School showcase rules change? I know when it was annoounced Etsy said they would only accept items from the clothing category, but I see all categories of items in the showcase now.
accessories, children, bags & purses, vintage.

I tried to list a vintage clothing item and was rejected.

Once again, vintage is on the back burner.

Lots of college students love vintage clothing.

It would be really nice if Accessories and Jewelry were included in this showcase. When I first saw the Back to School "Fashion" showcase I thought it would be perfect for jewelry. It seems to make sense that it would include anything to do with Fashion, not just clothing.

Not sure if anything can be changed at this point - but there are still a lot of unsold spots and I'd love to have one. :)
