Etsy's Handmade Blog
Call for Storque Articles: Etsy Pets

Throw us a bone, why don't ya!  We want to do a series of pet-centric posts next week and we're looking for pitches.  Use our Pitch to the Storque Form to send us great ideas for animal and pet-related content you'd like to share.  Make sure to include the word "pets" in your pitch so we can find you in our "box o' ideas that floweth over."

We have puppy fever over here!  And bunnies and kitties and all sorts! We've been doing some posts off and on with the Etsy Pets Flickr Pool and we want to see your little ones.  We want to feature some posts from animals lovers, links to great pet-lovers' blogs, people who make pet-related items, posts from Teams such as these:

Etsy Beagles Team
Cruelty Free Etsy
The Dog Mafia
EFA Etsy for Animals
Handmade4Hounds

We're already fawning over all the cute animals we've already seen during our "research phase." (CuteOverload.com, mostly!) Wow us with stories of your pets and the products that they love to use and play with!

I don't think there are a lot of turtle-related crafting products/projects, but I'll think about it anyway. ;)

I think that Squirtle would be perfect for a pet story gemma! And he's such a ham when it comes to taking pictures.

Crafters can help build cages, aquariums, ID tags, leashes, collars and chewable toys. But also think of those "pets" that are of the unusual / unique variety (lizards, turtles, hamsters, fish, etc.)

When I was very young, raising rabbits and hamsters, My dad, built a "Hamster Hilton" from an old tower bird cage. He used nails to hold plywood platforms for each "level" of the cage. Each plywood platform had a cut out for a little "ramp of chicken wire (or smaller), so the hamsters could climb to each level. The bottom of the cage was the "sleeping / bathroom" quarters, then an eating level and a couple of playing levels, with the running wheel level at the top. Each level was easy to clean, because you would just lift each platform out for cleaning. We just kept a cardboard box handy to keep the hamsters in while we cleaned the cage. We had as many as 10 - 12 babies in it as the grew up and we're sold or given away.

Also, remember another way to help our furry friends is to "click" each day at http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

Just one click a day helps feed animals in shelters and I never can pass up the checking out the store. Each purchase also contributes 14 bowls of food.

I've rescued, contributed and purchased.

Hope this helps Etsy! Good Luck.

YEA! I love seeing our furry companions getting some attention!

I'm all animals in my shop! I do custom pet pin, and pendant designs, plus the occasional other animal works.

I'm owned by a huge crew of critters, dogs, fish, rabbits, rats, and cats! I have quite a few pics of my critter-crew on my blog at: http://dreameyce.livejournal.com/ My critter side-kicks (Esp the Cardigan Welsh Corgwn AKA 'Corgis') are my main inspirations.

GO pets!

Terrific to see our 4-legged, finned, beaked and winged, beloved family members having their day too.

Good job!

I can't wait to see these articles. I have a beautiful yellow lab named Indy and it will be great to hear what other pet lovers say.

I'd love to write about my deaf dog learning sign language but I doubt I could make a whole article about it and it has absolutely nothing to do with crafting.

I was a graphic design professional for five years - even started my own company.

Then the commercial art scene ate me alive.

I lost my own voice and felt like I could not be creative any longer.

So I went back to my favorite childhood activity...drawing animals. What you see in my shop is a result of this process.

Thank you to Etsy for helping me gain back what I thought I had lost.

One final note...the first two pieces I did were of my dachshund, Zoe, and my old labrador, Tuckerman. They are my stinky-breathed, four-legged muses...and I love 'em.
