Many Etsians have been asking for a cut and dry way to get only the important site news from admin. The Storque is great and all, you say, but there's so much content, it's hard to pinpoint what's what in the Etsy News Section.
We over here at the Storque are up for the task. We are converting the Etsy News Email list to be an Etsy News Alert system. In the past, Etsy News was about a weekly or so collection of headlines from the Storque. Pleasant enough, but not instantaneous! Not hard-hitting!
That was then, this is now: just sign up for the Etsy News Emails listserve here, or by clicking on the envelope icon on the homepage of Etsy.
You will get breaking news headlines straight from Etsy Central, as they are published on the Storque, delivered to your email inboxes. Hello, synchronicity!![]()
Included Topics:
- Downtime & site outages
- Cooperative Advertising announcements
- New site features launched
- Statistics
- Showcase announcements
- Policy & legal announcements
- Important Customer Support how-tos
- Major posts from Etsy's founder Rob Kalin, aka Rokali
- Town Halls or other community-wide events
- Other news important enough for us to bug you
We are just starting this, so please let us know your thoughts below in the comments! And go subscribe here!

I follow the Storque on Twitter and I find it a great way to keep updated. :)

Thank you for the email I'm SO glad you guys are doing this -- I think it will make a big difference to sellers here.

If you get all the e-mail already do you have to re-sign up?

I'm going to love this improvement! Many Thanks!
Just wondering, though, if Etsy will consider e-mailing the News (just the News, as it is non-fluffy-essential-info) to all Etsy sellers, whether they've signed-up or not? It would certainly help keep everyone informed and on the same page. Might even cut down on some repeat threads in the fora . . .

AllAboutTheButtons, Vanessa said in the announcement thread that no further action is required for members who are already on the News e-mail list.

GreenMamba, I'm not sure about your suggestion for all Etsy sellers, whether they've signed-up or not. I will ask engineering and see if it's feasible. When you send out truly massive emails (70,000 is a lot!) I think you run the danger of aol thinking you're spam. And other email providers too.
There's also the Community aspect of people being upset when they get emails they didn't sign up for. We will discuss! We will look into it!

A step in the right direction, thanks.
Yup I agree I think etsy sellers should have to opt out not opt in. ANd then when you go to opt out it should say something like "are you sure, you could miss important changes like if we change the fees." and something like "if you opt out of these emails you are responsible to go to the storque and keep up with any policy changes"
And I would really prefer to get a convo from "etsynews" rather than a convo, not sure if that is feasible though

I think this is a fantastic idea. It's a very convenient way to be sure sellers will stay on top of the latest critical news. I try to check out the Storque & forums once or twice a week but sometimes get so busy I forget. This grabs my attention by putting the info right in front of me in my inbox. Thank you!

Great stuff! Thanks for adding this feature.
It's important to know new stuff soon, often by the time I catch something in the Storque I hop over to the forums and everyone's been talking about it for 24 hours and all the excitement has gone :)

Like this so much have subscribed already thanks for doing this. You are appreciated.

I will ask about the seller-site-wide convo suggestion.
Also, we are talking about a prompt to have people sign up for the Etsy News email alerts when they first sign up to be sellers.
There are more things we can do when people are "initiated" on Etsy that would let them know where to get info.

Thanks again, Vanessa! It's great to know you all are brainstorming ways to keep everyone in the loop. I love RaeGun's suggestion to have sellers manually opt-OUT, rather than having to opt-IN. I do understand the possible Spam issues, but am hopeful there will soon be a way to implement a reliable all-inclusive news-delivery system, whether by convo or by e-mail.
Hip Hip Hurray! for timely communication!!

Thank you! I also posted in your forum this morning that I think it's so important to have everyone get at least the first one whether they've signed up or not and then have the option to "opt out". I definitely agree it should be mandatory for new sellers to opt in or out at time of registration.
Can't wait to see the first one!
