Etsy Etsy Etsy Newscast

MP4 | HD | Youtube | Blip

In this Etsy News video podcast you'll learn about some construction going on inside and out of the Etsy Labs, get an update on the book club's return from the dead, find out about some plans for a town hall meeting, get the "web-er" report, explore the new community landing page, and take a look into the workshop of an Etsy seller.

This is my first Etsy News report, and I'd like feedback.  Check out one of the awesome newscasts that Shannon did.  Are there things that she did that you'd like to see in future newscasts?  Do you think I get too close to the camera? Do you miss the greenscreen effects?  Leave your feedback in the comments!

If you watch and listen close you'll see a microphone wandering into the picture and hear cellphone interference.  I'm going to try and avoid those things next time!

I wanted to include Etsians' user generated videos in the newscast, and so giantdwarf has a cameo in this months newscast.  What kinds of Etsy user generated videos do you think would fit into the Etsy video podcast?  If you've got something that you think would fit, drop me a line at bre@etsy.com.

This is the first Etsy video that's in HD! All in favor of more pixels, raise your hands!

Do you like to watch videos at Youtube?  We're just getting the Etsy channel set up over there and it's only got 60 subscribers.  If you like to watch youtube videos, subscribe after clicking to the Etsy Youtube page!

And stay tuned, because next up we'll have a special Valentine's How-to!

I love the latest newscast newscast newscast. Good work, Bre!

*theory*
Anda ruined the book club, then married Pete. Rob's revenge - make Pete cry by not only removing the halfpike, BUT making Pete dismantle it himself.

I do miss the greenscreen goofiness a bit. And the roof scenes also. I like the roof a lot.

Camera distance is fine... i still think you are hot ;)

I maybe think that the gint dwarf camo was a little long, because i have already watched the video... if it was a new video not yet published on the storque long would be okay. (Sorry Giant Dwarf! It's not ou, it's me)

I do like visits to people desks/ workspaces/ Petes discontent. I am a voyeur at heart.

What a fantastic way to give the community a window on the people who turn the cranks!

I think my wife has a hat from Giant Dwarf. Recycled sweaters makes hot, cheap hats.

i come for the newscast, i stay for bre.

as for feedback, i really, really, really adored the greenscreen effects. especially chas's weber reports. please don't say they're gone for good *sniff*. . .

I'm so excited to watch "manufactured Landscapes"! It is on my table right now tempting me to stay up too late watching.

Hey... That was a pretty neato plush sign you had in the back round. :) Thanks for the update!

Feb. 9, 2008 at 4:27 a.m. eclipse

I like the new direction for the newscasts. Good improvements! I don't miss the greenscreen or the wigs. Other than godzilla, I'd like to hear more about the new employees.

The weather report doesn't seem to have as much info as it used to, like # of items sold and $ amount sold. I liked having that information and hope it returns.

Also there have been lots of small but very useful changes lately that could have been put in the newscast. (last button while editing, search by price range, etc)

Feb. 9, 2008 at 9:12 a.m. bethela

Great newscast...love the changes.

I can vouch for all of the construction...and pile driving. All of this commotion increses creativiy - I swear.

Terrific newscast. Enjoyed the GiantDwarf video.
Thanks Bre.

I liked it. Did you mention that sales were up along with listings and page views? That would be important to know to put things in perspective.

I agree, more news about the additions to Etsy, especially staff, but to the site as well. The newscasts reach an audience that aren't perhaps on Etsy yet.

Although I didn't much care for the LOLCats telling us to pay our bills, the working in of a cute kitty or puppy pic was always somewhat humorous. I don't miss the green screen stuff at all.

Overall, great job, and I look forward to the next one.

yay for HD! yay for blip! youtube is gross puke quality. More godzilla cameos!!!

Feb. 10, 2008 at 8:46 a.m. winenutnyc

Eclipse- I only held those out for the "new" in January theme. We sold 315,000 items in Jan- $4.25 million worth of items. Both down a bit from December, but actually better than we expected for the month.

Feb. 10, 2008 at 2:54 p.m. brepettis

Thanks everyone!

julieincharge, thanks!
bitabite... the roof eh? Ok! I hear you on the fresh content. You've got your flirt on, lookout!
sstrudeau - ya her hats are awesome.
pookeh - *blush*
argylewhale - I can't wait to watch ml too!
Rudy - Hmm, you bring the bacon and I'll film it, k?
mayabella - It's a little puppet theater.
eclipse - ok, I'll try and get more new hires into the newscast as long as I can keep them out of godzilla's jaws!
bethela - I hear the pile driving in my dreams now!
fromnancysheart - thanks!
thepaintedtiger - ok, i'll consider adding more kittens.
crankbunny - Yay!
winenutnyc - thanks for breaking it down!

"We sold 315,000 items in Jan- $4.25 million worth of items. Both down a bit from December, but actually better than we expected for the month."

Thanks Charles! January is always lower than December but that's a good amount for a January!

All my videos are on YouTube and I just uploaded a high quality version of my last video to blip.tv today. If you go to the episode page on my blip. tv show, you'll be able to see the Quicktime version of my latest video, which is soooo much better than the Flash version. :)

Rob! Mary! It's so cool to see you guys through my computer screen. Just wanted to you know I've switched over completely to Etsy (boooo, ebay!!!!) and that's it's been working really well for me.

I've been recruiting lots of Montrealers for ya...people here are still a bit afraid of selling online, but I think things are changing!

xo

Feb. 26, 2008 at 8:47 p.m. Taina

Great work, Bre! I loved it!

If Godzilla hadn't been there, I would have missed the kittens.

I can't wait for more newscasts!

Feb. 26, 2008 at 10:36 p.m. dulait

Rob is so cute. I heart Naked Economics, everybody should read it. I watched his interview with walstrip, very cool to learn how the company was founded. So um, how can I meet Rob? lol

Really Good!..(it actually inspired me to leave a comment!)..definitely made me feel more connected to the people behind "Etsy"...not an easy thing to do, despite all the techie internet advances.

Looking foward to the next one!
