Etsy in the Press: Art of Pricing in Venus Zine

The latest issue of Venus Zine #29 is out!  The Storque is on a mission to provide indie entrepreneurs with useful info on running businesses.  Venus Zine syndicated a post from Beth's series here in the Storque, the Art of Pricing, and so we're very proud to see one of our little articles fly into the world of print magazines and land on the newsstand. It was also very cool to see our downstairs neighbors, BurdaStyle, represented in an ad right below the article.  Who knew the pages of the magazine would so perfectly reflect our physical space, over here in Brooklyn?

Some of you may remember this teaser post from Venus' photo shoot here at the Labs. Now that the issue is out we can spill the beans. Venus DIY editor Justina Blakeney, our most recent Featured Buyer, constructed a very cool bulletin board using many recycled materials; the prop styling and photo shoot giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the magazine.

Check it out in the magazine and let us know which Etsy sellers were featured!

I just got my issue a few days ago and was delighted to see they used my "white love birds" print in the bulletin board.... unfortunately there was a typo and another seller (the lovely Elsita) was credited instead. I'm still very happy to see it there :)

Yumiyumi, That is a lovely bird print. I went to your store to check it out in full, hopefully more people will find their way there anyway.

Thanks for this information! I am reading anything and everything to start my stained glass business and succeed with it! This use to be a hobby but now, with the economy the way it is, I want to turn it into a business.

Dear Moderator:
I know that if this post belongs on another page you will see to it that the feedback goes to your potential sellers. My family knows how much I rave about etsy.com and have encouraged people to sell here.

When pricing vintage it's only fair to take a square look at the cleanliness of the item... If a seller is unwilling to sell a clean item then it belongs in a rummage sale as a cast off donation.

I did not have the heart to place unfavorable comments regarding 3 recent purchases... 2 vintage purses, and one vintage pair of boots(3diff sellers). Times are tough and generally I honor all of my convos. When I recieved those items they went straight into the backyard for a dose of sunlight.

But after paying for shipping I find the cost of these items was prohibitive.
Retailers are providing brand new merchandise at up to %90 off sales.

Sellers should remove dust in the creases of the material, look one more time to remove left items in purses or pockets. In particular finger smudges on patent leather,dust/dirt that could have been brushed off of the suede boots... In order to use one clutch purse I will have to submerge the item in soapy water, place baking soda in the other and use a suede brush myself to clean the boots. After they air out substantially. If I don't actually do an energetic cleaning of some kind!

I do agree with Grieternal. During this bad time, sellers should take EXTRA "TLC" in making sure that the products they are selling are of good quality. Things like taking photographs as close as the real item so as not to mislead buyers and secure packaging for shipment helps to make sure that the purchase arrives in good conditions to the buyers. Those "black sheeps" destroy chances of the rest of the sellers who are trying their best out here.

Can someone tell me how to price shipping? I was using the priority USPS rates, but they seem a bit much.

YOU CAN GO TO USPS.COM SITE (UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE). YOU DEFFINATELY NEED TO HAVE A SCALE.THE SITE WILL CALCULATE SHIPPING FOR YOU.

I love etsy and all the valuable info on pricing for 'quality handcraft' product sales.
