Etsy in the Press: The Today Show!

We at Etsy came back to the office today to find a special treat waiting for us: a plug on NBC's "The Today Show" over the weekend!

The mention occurs in a story about buying American-made gifts for the holidays after many recalls of international imports, specifically toys. According to dreamalittle7 (in the forum thread about the mention), the name of the woman who plugs Etsy is Regina Lewis, a consumer advisor for television and radio. She's featuring Etsy as her website of the day on her site, http://www.reginalewis.com.

We at Etsy believe that the emphasis is not about buying American, but about buying handmade. When craftspeople have a sense of pride and responsibility for the items they create, the result is a quality product that brings together both the buyer and seller on a personal level. Handmade is love, and an international phenomenon!

They are looking for people to email them with sources of American made toys in response to the China toy recall.

Even if you dont make toys, email them about etsy and include your shop name for them to take a look.

The statistics on her blog say that interest in American made toys jumped after all that contamination was found in so many mass produced imported childrens toys...sad how CPSIA came along and knocked so many small makers on the head just when interest in their wares increased!
