Etsy Statistics: February 2009 Weather Report

February is a short month on days, but not on results for Etsy.  We weathered the economic storm and had a great month. As a whole the numbers were a bit lower than January, but considering the fact that we are comparing a 31 day month to a 28 day month, we are very pleased with the results.

The stats:

  • $10.2 million of goods were sold; roughly 2% higher than January's $9.9 million.
  • That represents 682,631 items sold for the month, about the same number from January’s stats.
  • 1,140,185 new items were listed in February, down from 1,203,417 items or 5.5% vs. January.
  • 132,000 new members joined the Etsy community, down 6,000, or 5% from January.
  • 436,393,107 page views were recorded on the site, a 1.6% decrease from January.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Etsy community in February! It went by so quickly, didn't it? Get into the March mood with some St.Patrick's Day items below.

i had a great month for both January & February, it was surprising, thanks Etsy! Since the economy collapsed, and my local jewelry parties became fewer & less profitable, Etsy has been an answer to prayer for me and my daughter! I can only hope business continues to grow!

(also, I am from a very Irish town & love St Patty's.... here are some earrings that could be FREE this weekend with my 'spring cleaning' sale.... http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?...)

Wow, I guess I need to get moving on my Etsy listings, so I can hitch a ride on the Etsy-success train. Times are tough, but as an incentive to my customers, shipping in the US will be free in my shop. This weekend there will be some great deals on "green" jewelry. Come check it out.

March 6, 2009 at 1:18 p.m. SanctusNatura

Could it be because The month is shorter that the new items and new member was down from Jan?

March 6, 2009 at 1:18 p.m. novadesigns

Thanks for the numbers. I would love to see the average sale ticket without including supplies.

It's great to hear we're doing so well on etsy still! Funnily though I find my personal sales are always better than etsy's, even though I'm selling quality stuff which I thought photographs well.

The numbers keep my faith in this marketplace, where so many creative people live. Thanks etsy!

March 6, 2009 at 5:15 p.m. AdornMeJewelry

February was very good to me, and so far March is no slouch, either. Thanks for keeping the channels of info open; this is all great to see, because it means that even though there might be a financial slowdown, people obviously still see the attraction (and maybe more than ever) of buying handmade. :c)

March 6, 2009 at 5:32 p.m. worksandfinds
