Etsy Statistics: November Kicked Off the Holidays in Style

November definitely saw a start to the holiday season here at Etsy and a strong one at that – we saw great growth week over week and had 12 record sales volume days in the month.

Here are November’s key numbers, each of which represent the highest total ever:

  • $10.8  million of goods were sold — a 28% increase over October.
  • That represents  719,145  items sold, a 24.5% increase from October's stats.
  • 1,143,942 new items were listed, up from 976,234 items last month, a 17.1% increase.
  • 135,165  new members joined the Etsy community, including 22,744 new sellers.
  • 410,634,499 page views were recorded on the site, a 14.5% increase from October.

People were definitely shopping early this year. And sales seem to be picking up by the day. December should be an even better month for Etsy.

By the way, I noticed PalomasNest goods in Better Homes and Gardens Dec. issue. This is very good exposure for not only her shop but all of us Etsians in general, as most people I speak to say "Etsy...??? what's that?!"

Well, November was certainly a good month for me, and I'm glad to hear it was good for all of Etsy too.
As a matter of interest, how much of that staggering total was handmade goods and how much was supplies and vintage?

Those numbers are just hard to comprehend! I'm blown away and so happy to be a part of such a booming marketplace! The economy may be down, but the hearts of people are alive and well and buying handmade, HEARTFELT goods! That makes me so happy!

Fantastic! I had my best month ever on Etsy (after 18 months here). It was mostly one set of items, but I'm SO happy and hope I can keep up the creativity since the buyers are here.

For those looking for a comparison with last year, I looked through the Storque archives and there was an article touting November 15th as the best sales day to date (although I recally there were LOTS and LOTS of record sales days as the holidays proceeded last year).

Anyway, the number of sales last year was just over 11,000 on November 15th. Based on the sales figures above, ETSY sold approximately 2x that number on average each day of November this year (just under 24,000).

Or to be more exact: 0.04574877111013773300238477636638% :D

The marketplace appears to have sufficient liquidity but what is its propensity to buy materials versus finished goods? It's been asked before andis quite important in understanding the marketplace.

I love reading the stats and impressed by the ever increasing sales, sellers and buyers. However, as a new seller with the amazing statistic of one sale, incredibly easy to analyse, the statistics I would like to see are:

1. How many individual sellers make up the sales statistics.
2. What percentage of Etsy sellers that is.
3. Average sale per seller, who made a sale.

This would give me an idea of where I stand and what I need to aim for and, unfortunately, how hard or not it might be to start regularly selling.

But do keep up the statistics, they are a good read.

Hello. I am a buyer rather than a seller and I would like all of you to know that I bought the majority of my Christmas gifts on Etsy this year in Oct. and Nov. This is the first year in I don't remember how long that I am not half panicked/half depressed about having to try to find nice and fun gifts with a $10 to $15 limit per person due to my low income. Etsy made it a pleasure to shop! I am not doing Internet shopping now because the shipping gets iffy in December. Thanks for a great website!
