What’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today?
We all want to know how Etsy is doing statistics-wise, and I’m here to tell you, the weather in October was great. Our original October forecast called for lots of newly listed items. The Etsy community delivered, with 376,539 new items, which is an increase of 20% over the number of new items listed in September. We expect to see over 1,000,000 items for sale on Etsy by Dec 1!
We also saw tremendous growth in shopping in October. We keep a close watch on the number of pages viewed on Etsy.com and there were 162,907,375 page views in October, a 23% increase over September. All the new items and all of that traffic generated sales of 218,455 items (20% increase), representing $2,966,160 worth of goods sold for the month (21% increase).
Perhaps most importantly we had almost 40,000 new buyers register in October.
The forecast for November is for even better growth as we lead up to the holiday season. Stay tuned!

Thanks so much for the stats! It's something we sellers are always curious about.

That's a 58% sell rate, but keep in mind that not all the items sold were new in October, so it is actually less. (and your own mileage will vary, depending on your craft.)

"representing $2,966,160 worth of handmade goods sold for the month (21% increase)"
does that number include the sales of commercial supplies and vintage categories, or were the non-handmade items subtracted to get that number? Because I know that commercial supplies is the category with the most sales so if there was $2,966,160 worth of handmade goods sold, the total sales (including non-handmade) must be much higher.

Thank you for the stats. I will be keeping my eye on this section of The Storque!

I third eclipe's question (though I think it's the total figure, not broken down into handmade vs. non-hanmade).

Hi- The number is the total figure, so it does include vintage and supplies.
I'll clarify it and update the story. Sorry for the confusion.

We are a handmade (non vintage or supplies) shop and we broke our previous monthly sales total by approx. 20%.
I have also noticed more buyers signing up the day of their purchase so external marketing efforts by Etsy's marketing staff are paying off.

Let's do it again this month.
