Tech Update: Beta Release of Seller Stats with Google Analytics

Tom Kutter, aka Kutty, is a new product manager at Etsy and focuses on building products for Etsy sellers and developers.  Welcome Tom!

Etsy is currently conducting a beta test with Google Analytics to enable Etsy sellers to track metrics such as pageviews, site visits, popular content and page referrals.  

We have contacted a small group of sellers to help us with beta-testing. We're hoping to complete beta testing soon, and at that point, we will have more to say about the timing of releasing Google Analytics to the entire seller community. So expect an announcement here on the blog, in the forums, and to the Etsy News email list. The release will be accompanied by an FAQ and links to Google Analytics resources.

For now, we wanted to give Etsy sellers a heads up.

Why do you even need to test this? Sellers have been asking for stats for years now. Why wait any longer to improve customer satisfaction?

I guess you like seeing more and more sellers leave Etsy and go to Artfire, 1000 Markets, Dawanda, eBay, etc.

oh, thank goddess...

i have been in vacation mode for a few months now - mostly because i simply just did not have time for all the "promotion", which has, for so long, been done blindly.

now, i'll be able to track my efforts and save time and that's HUGE. thank you for FINALLY moving forward with this, so i can FINALLY return to Etsy. GREAT NEWS!

We want to test to make sure the feature works technically, so that we catch catch any bugs. We also want to make sure the user experience is as smooth as possible and not confusing. Doing a quick beta-test also gives us some initial feedback from sellers, who will be using the feature, so we can make tweaks if necessary.

I hope the hand-picked beta testing group includes some people who are not afraid to be critical. If you only include your friends and people who think everything you do is perfect, you won't get much useful feedback on bugs ad such. Also it should include people who have used stats before on other sites and have some idea how they should function, and technically savvy people who know how to format a bug report.

honestly...I think if this doesn't come out full blown in very short order many will leave for "other places" that offer stats...stats are not a bonus, they are essential to being able to properly run a shop

One of my other business sites that I use has also implemented google analytics and it seems to be a pretty well working concept, a bit confusing yet in how to use it but I think it all can be learned in no time.

Wow. This is awesome! Being able to to track metrics such as pageviews, site visits, popular content and page referrals will be like turning the lights on rather than stabbing in the dark. Thank you Etsy, between this and move toward improved search functionality, as a result, hopefully we'll see a huge increase in sales not to mention overall user satisfaction!
