Today we rolled out a number of improvements to Etsy's popular Favorites feature. These enhancements are designed to make Etsy Favorites more usable, visible and sharable.

Use 'em

Sold items can now be added to your Favorites. Sometimes you just aren’t quick enough, and an item you want is sold out by the time you see it. You can still add it to your Favorites. Views and hearts now continue to accumulate on items even after they’ve been sold.
Tip: Convo the seller to see if they can make another item for you or if they're planning to list another.

No more grey boxes to delete. Many Etsy community members have complained in the past about the clutter of anonymous grey items in their Favorites with the text “Listing expired or removed.” This would occur when an item expired, was being edited, or belonged to a shop in Vacation Mode. These grey boxes are no more. Here’s what happens now:

When an item you’ve hearted expires, it will be removed from your Favorites.
When an item you’ve hearted is being edited by the seller, it will not appear in your Favorites while the editing is in progress. When the editing is complete, the item will return to the spot you had it in your Favorites.
When an item you’ve hearted goes into Vacation Mode, it will remain in your Favorites — you will just be unable to purchase the item until the seller returns from vacation.

See 'em

A “heart counter” has been added to item pages. You can now see the number of hearts for any item, active or sold, along with views in the new “stats” section on the lower right of item pages.
Tip: If an item gets blogged about and then sells, it can still show off its street cred with more and more hearts and views.

Show off your Favorites on your Etsy Profile. You now have the option to display the last six items you added to your Favorites on your Etsy Profile page! These items will be displayed below the "Favorite Materials" section of your Profile. To turn this feature on, sign in to Etsy and proceed to Your Etsy > Public Profile. Check the checkbox at the bottom of the page next to “Favorite Items” and click "Save Changes" to start showing the world the cool stuff you find!

Share 'em

Don’t keep your Favorites to yourself! (Unless you want to.) Now when you sign in to Etsy and proceed to Your Etsy > Favorites, you will see a link for a new Share widget on the upper right. Pop this open for options to share your list of Favorites with your friends or with the world. With this widget you can easily share your collection of Favorites on Twitter or Facebook, embed them on your blog, or copy and paste the web address for your public Favorites page.

Why can't we just have folders, pleeeease! I don't care about sharing or grey boxes, I just want FOLDERS to organize my favorites! I am starting to heart fewer shops because there are so many I can't ever find them again as it is.

How about a 'sorting' or 'organizing' images option - is this in the works too? We had asked about that since there is currently no way (as there is on Facebook) to change the images except for the awkward 'featured rankings'. Which isn't an organizer.

when i want to buy some earrings...i want to go to my jewelry folder, not hash through 50 pages of everything and try to remember what i saw 20 pages ago!!
folders will increase buying..!!!!

I'm with curlyfrysc: if it's deleted automatically, how will I know to check if it's relisted? Can't it just stay in my favorites, even if the link doesn't go anywhere? (which incidentally is the case with one of my favorites right now - item doesn't exist, but it's still in my favorites anyway)

I don't like having my gray boxes deleted. I like to leave them for when/if the items are renewed. Now they're gone forever?

I do like some of the changes.....the vacation notice on the items instead of the price and hearts/views for sold items, etc. But, I didn't mind the gray boxes. I actually wanted them.

Where is the share option for the favorites. In the screen shot above, there is a little box opened over the favorited items with the little x and "share". I don't see that anywhere on my favorites page.

The improvements are nice but I would much rather be able to search through my sold items. This would be more uselful to me than sharing favorites. I frequently have someone ask for a sold item and I can't find it even with the transaction number.

As has been voiced by others, these changes are nice and all, but I would *desperately* like to be able to organize my favorites somehow (folders, tags, search, ANYTHING). Judging from forum posts, I am not alone in this longstanding desire. If there is anything I can do to help get this feature implemented -- like promise you my first-born child -- please let me know. :)

Yeah...the most sorely-needed change is sorting or searching by category/seller/keyword!

Automatically removing expired favorites is great - but would have preferred seeing what expired in the first place! So that I could check the seller's store for same/similar items.

I work with lots of usability people in real life and they're not always interested in giving flexibility to users. Tsk tsk. Sometimes a little accommodation can go very far (and it's just a little more code)!

Amen, eclipse!! And if there's a way to let relisted items stay on people's Favorites lists, that would rock. I relist my items often so they'll stay toward the top of the category pages and customer searches, and it always kills me to lose those hearts...

Some of us are getting seriously frustrated and upset over this - it's been SO LONG since that favorites survey went out, and nothing has been even hinted at. I'll BUY MORE STUFF if I can organize it.

My favs are private so all this sharing business has not appeased me.

Personally, I won't use the sharing options or put other sellers' items on my profiles page and I'm not sure having "0 hearts" show on item pages looks very good.
If buyers see other sellers' item on your profile page, will that be confusing? Will they think they're your items? Will they read the line above the photos & understand that they're things you like, not things you made?
Admin- on average how many listings site wide have hearts? 10%? 50%? 70%? How many listings will now say "0 hearts"?

Would really like sorting/organizing options for favorites :)

I agree about the potential confusion showing favorites on your profile page. I don't get the point and won't use THAT feature!

Give us 6 folders and the ability to rearrange inside each! Then the top item in each folder can go into the profiled favorites! That is alot I know! Although I appreciate the work that Etsy has done to provide the sharing of favourites so far, if I can't find anything in my favourites, they really are of no use to me!

Please let us have some method of organizing our favourites... even a couple of folders would be nice. I'm trying to do some holiday shopping from my favourites and its extremely frustrating to dig through everything...

It's ok but it seems Etsy continues to ignore other issues that CEO Maria, et al, vowed to address in their recent interviews: removing resellers from Handmade and the vast amounts of non-vintage in Vintage categories. Sadly, some of the Handmade sellers who are actually are selling factory made goods are repeatedly featured in here along with non-vintage showcased as Vintage. Is there a double standard going on for certain sellers?

Also, when Rob was still here he personally promised that Paypal would never become the exclusive order form choice for online payment & that Google Checkout was seriously being considered. Well, Paypal is the only integrated order form choice & I have to wonder if Etsy got hooked into a contract of exclusivity w/ eBay-owned Paypal so that now there cannot be any optional online payment methods integrated.

Etsy is great and I'm so grateful for Etsy but some basic housekeeping needs to be done asap, as promised, before adding yet more frosting to the cake. I'm pretty disappointed to see these issues chronically ignored. If you don't weed your garden, the weeds will take over.

I love the ability to add favorites even after they've sold but the gray box issue hasn't really been solved. I think sellers (I do at least) still want to know what the item was instead of just having it be deleted. That way we can contact the seller and see if they can make another one, or relist it for us.

this is awesome, but there's possibly one more thing which would make it even better- a way to organize/search through favourites! sometimes I remember something I liked but I can't find it since I favourite too many things on etsy :)

Categories would be useful--I keep a trimmer list of faves than I would like because there's no organization. Even something basic like:

To Buy - Items you must have
To Gift - Items you'd like to gift
To Share - Items you want to promote via social media
To Wish - Items you may never be able to afford but still want to lust over
To Treasure - Items you'd like to put in a treasury

Categories like apparel, home, etc. would be great, too, but you'd need a lot more labels to really refine.

Better than folders... allow us to tag our favorites. That way we can choose our own categories, have as many as we want, and then sift through them using our self-defined tags.

One favorite item could be tagged multiple ways... maybe I want to give the item as a gift, put it in a treasury, AND note that it has to do with "owls" and "vintage"?

I'd love to see this functionality. My Favorites are a mess right now. :)

I agree with eclipse! I just want to be able to organize my favorites into folders or something. Don't care about sharing, don't care about hearts and views...I want to be able to put them in some sort of logical system that will enable me to find everything again.

i know change is hard for some people, and i guess sometimes it is for me as well ;-)
still, i like how you Etsy staff are constantly trying to improve things and keep them fresh. I love these new changes, especially the fact that vacationing shops will keep their items visible in people's faves!

It's the 2 changes in the See 'em section that I don't understand the benefit of.

Great changes! I would like to be able to share some of my favorites, but keep others private. For instance, I would like to keep the supplies that I put in favorites private, but share all of my favorite sellers items. That way it wouldn't have to be all or nothing.

Admins, in response to "Show off your Favorites on your Etsy Profile" could you please make the links to our favorite items new targets. That is, when you click them they open up in a new tab or a new window based on the users browser.

I think this would be a fairly quick change and it would be very much appreciated.

there seems to be a glitch in these new 'upgrades.' currently, the sold items in my favorites are showing up as gray boxes. there is no way of knowing the seller or the product— and absolutely no way of anyone else hearting these sold items.

i agree that tags are the way to go for organizing favorites in the future. our favorites could function much like delicious and their bookmarking application. adding folders would be futile and provide little more organization that the state favorites are in now.

i also agree that we should retain some knowledge of the items that have expired (but were not necessarily deleted.) i see those as two different outcomes. keeping an item viewable in favorites after expiring is more promising of a future sale than deleting it from existence. most of my favorites are found snooping through others' favorites, not through etsy's categories—where the expired listings are expected to be re-listed and 're-discovered' again weeks or months later. with so many sellers re-listing their products (which haven't expired and aren't even close to expiring, but they want their items to be viewed at the top of the pages and pages and pages of listings for maybe ONE minute) everyday, the items which HAVE expired are starting out as if they've never been on etsy before. why must expired items be purged of their following, while 're-newed' items retain their admirers?

i appreciate the work you've done and the considerations you're making. the favorites feature is a favorite of mine and i spend many hours curating my collection, so i suppose i'm more vocal than many on this topic. :)
