REMINDER: Tonight, August 13, is the second DIY Thursday. Details here.
Why stay in and sew all by your lonesome? Craft Night at the Etsy Labs on Gold St. may be on hold until September 14 when we move to our new office, but fear not — many crafty opportunities abound! Etsy has joined forces with the Museum of Art and Design to present a weekly series of hands-on workshops we're calling DIY Thursdays. Drop in between 6-8 p.m. each Thursday in August for some down and dirty, do-it-yourself fun in the museum's studios. The workshops are free with pay-what-you-wish admission to the museum. Click here for directions.
Not a New Yorker? Don't fret, you can still join in on the fun online by joining us at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday in the Virtual Labs for a live demo of the project. (Click here to see what time 5:30 p.m. ET is in your hometown.)

Join us as the series continues on Thursday, August 20 with a workshop lead by the wonderful Nicole Licht of astulabee. We'll combine and explore different methods of textile collage while pushing beyond traditional techniques in a playful and experimental manner. Taking inspiration from quilt piecing and embroidery, color theory and drawing, we'll create small dimensional art objects.
Nicole Licht is an artist who, under the name astulabee, focuses on unique, detailed soft sculpture and mixed media textile works that incorporate drawing, embroidery and, collage, humor and nostalgia. She has exhibited her paintings and textile works internationally and has presented her award winning soft sculptures at juried craft venues across the country. She studied fine art at the Cooper Union for Advancement of Science and Art, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Upcoming Events with Etsy:
8/27: DIY Thursdays at MAD: Coasters with Aaron McIntosh
9/14: Grand Opening Craft Night at Etsy Labs' new space in Dumbo, Brooklyn (Details to come.)
Stay tuned for details on future Craft Nights at our new space in lovely Dumbo, Brooklyn!

It is so great to see embroidery and fibers recognized as a vital art form! These examples are great! and the events look so fun. I'll just have to live off the inspiration though, as I live in the southwest! Thanks so much for doing articles like this!
