Great article! Thank you for posting this. I've been using washable flannel pads for years and would never willingly go back to disposables. Cotton pads are soft, comfortable, and makes me feel less dependent on mass marketed stuff.

More women need to seriously know about alternatives. Screw putrid white when I can have COLORS! I'm a full converter. My total stash is 17, and I got all of them from Etsy! Just search "Cloth Menstrual Pads" to see! They aren't really hard to wash and care for.. Please consider buying at least ONE cloth pad and see how it is like. There are other alternatives such as the "Menstrual Cup" which is a suction cup, and has very very little cleanup. I'm so glad Cloth pads have been featured here. I have been waiting and dreaming of what it would be like. I have bookmarked this for love :D Thank You! Interesting timing -- I heard about this concept about 3 years ago, but I just finished making my own and used them this last week. It's really not too bad! Also, if you are pro-cloth pad, check out goods4girls.org -- they are coordinating the donation of cloth pads to organizations in Africa.
