Very cool article. I'm a new etsy shop girl here in NOLA so please be in touch if any of you are heading down this way. If you're already here in NOLA then be in touch soon! I'm a queen juggler right now but would love to make time for my fellow etsyians. I post somewhat regularly at http://melissaroberts.typepad.com

Lovely article, full of hope and optimism. The character of the city is resilient and sedulous as proven by this inspiring story!

Love this story. I will be down there soon to meet up with Kerry (rustchic) and Heather (nolasalvage) for an interview. I live in Brooklyn now, but I am from Louisiana.

Thanks for that story Erin! Come on down and see how many more Etsyans there are now -- we could all use the boost. And articles like this one show the rest of the country that we are down, but definitely not out!

I think the building the ARC was in had some fire code issues, which prevent them from doing performances and such there anymore. The Bike Project still operates out the same building though, as does the Iron Rail, which is a community library and book store (the first library in the city to reopen after Katrina!).

The Green Project (one of my favorite organizations in town) sort of picks up where the ARC left off in a lot of ways...they do at least one Recycle for the Arts art class a month as well as other events and projects. Plus they offer low-cost recycled building materials to the community.
