Justin and I used Myregistry and it frustrated our family. We picked a ton of Etsy items and many sold out but it took a long time finding out which ones. I'm sure it is a good site for stores collecting items from crate&barrel but I thought it was not good for etsy stuff. It ended up being so much work that we just let it die.

i had a couple approach me to set up a registry of custom items for them within my shop. their items are in one of my shop categories, so they can just use that link for friends and family.

this prevents their items from being sold out, and i make them as they are purchased.

it's kind of a low-tech way about it, but it's been fun!

Wow, great article, thanks for putting this together! I just had someone ask me about a wedding registry and poked around and found this golden nugget of content. (oh, and I was pleasantly surprised to see my table trio up there, thanks!)

So handy! This just cements my feeling that Etsy is the source of all good things :-D

I checked out kaboodle.com and found it too hard for me to navigate - same was true of wists.com, where I couldn't seem to get to an ACTUAL WISH LIST rather than a single item or a list of wish lists no matter what I did.

Felicite.com sounded nice, but turned out to charge a 4.9% fee for any cash gifts (?!) and sounded like they only allowed gifts from stores that were part of their "network." Which certainly wouldn't work for me!

We debated it and decided to set up our wedding registry at thethingsIwant, only to find that they didn't seem to allow us to put BOTH our names on it... still, I dropped them a line to demand to know how to use this wedding-style, and I have hopes that they will change it. It still looked better-designed and easier to use than any of the others!

Thanks for all your great research!

I read this article - just what I was looking for! - and from it decided on myregistry.com. Now with actual experience all I can say is BEWARE!

I was looking for some way to combine multiple registry listings so it was easy for people who are spread all over the country. I read this post and thought myregistry.com sounded good.

It does offer a cash option, and is medium easy in getting things loaded in, though not automatic even for prices. But the real surprise problem we have run into is kind of a nightmare. Our registry links don't matter! It sends people where ever it wants to get a better refferal payment for myregistry.com

The whole idea of registering is 1. make it easy for people 2. be able to return/exchange to get what you need. Now imagine my surprise when people started saying, "hey I got you that pot from your Amazon registry" when we don't have anything registered there! Because we are a destination wedding we needed control of what was sent where. To Bad! I complained to myregistry.com and this is what they sent.

"MyRegistry reserves the right, exercisable in its sole discretion, with or without notice to you, to redirect users to or otherwise identify or designate other parties or Web sites from which MyRegistry believes such products or services (or products or services similar thereto, as determined by MyRegistry in its sole discretion) may be available.

We hope this did not cause any inconvenience or confusion."

They told me they used to be able to turn the auto relinking off, but now they can't. In other words people complained, they knew it was an issue, and decided to make it not optional. Does that sound like a good company to use for your wedding?

It worked for the people ordering, but our registry is now kind of a mess. So much for having certain items shipped here or there based on our registry at Macy's, Crate&Barrel, or BBB. Places like Etsy are great, but try driving a bunch of boxes to Amazon to swap them out.

myregistry.com has a really shady revenue plan that is not well disclosed and undermines the whole point of a registry. YOU CAN DO BETTER!

hope this saves some one else...

I am using myregistry.com for my wedding and so far I really like it. I've already started receiving gifts off my registry and I haven't experienced the problem kurtnyc was talking about yet. I love the myregistry button and would definitely recommend this site to anyone else getting married.
