Charles aka winenutnyc does a monthly stats post. These used to be in the newscast, but we've starting just doing them as their own posts. You can do a Storque search for "statistics" to call up these posts.

An Email communication should have been sent regarding these changes to allow people to comment before the changes were made.

Relying on everyone using the Storque and forums should not have been the way such an important change was implelented.

I hate to say it, but you could actually use Ebay has a source of inspiration for this. The search on their main page is very, very simple, which is what makes it successful!

Even as a quick mod, I'd recommend making "All" the default option, rather than "Handmade." It took me a second to realize I wasn't finding vintage items when I was doing a search yesterday, because I didn't bother to read what was in the dropdown menu. (Before now, I never had to!) (PS: I'm a web developer!)

This is a great idea as the forums are abused on a regular basis. I myself have avoided posting for months now because of this and only go in there now to see about bugs. I think its sad that people find an idea to make things better and more buisness like to be "big brother" and against free speech. People really need to get their priorities straight if not being able to abuse, insult, call out, and generally treat others like dirt is ruffling their feathers. thanks for using this new feature to help try and make the forums a better place as they have gotten really sad lately.

I think this is going to open a big, ugly can of worms. I can just imagine how massively this is going to be abused.

It's also going to make the free and open atmosphere of the forums take a nose dive, with everybody worried about saying what they think lest someone misinterpret it and report it.

I believe the new search feature is a good thing;
but I have a few questions.

Search drop-down menu shows:

>Handmade Items: tags, titles (default)
>Handmade Items: tags, titles, descriptions
>Supplies: tags, titles
>Vintage: tags, titles
>All Items: tags, titles
>Sellers: Usernames
>Materials

1. Why isn't there the option to search *descriptions* when looking for Vintage & Supplies?

2. Why isn't there an option for
*All Items: tags, titles, descriptions*?

This narrow search option for Vintage & Supply items means:
sellers of these items need to include all vital search terms in their titles and in the 13 available tags ---
which has the potential to result in ridiculously long listing titles.

When tagged properly & in accordance with the rules of the site, Commercial Supplies are limited to 12 descriptive tags because the first 2 must always be *Supplies* & *Commercial.*

Why the inequity?
(schOOLLOcker)

There are many incorrect tags allowing supplies to be posted in handmade. How will these be handles?

I have to say that seeing "Report This Post" up to ten times in one thread messes with my head as that is all I read when I am skimming a page.

It starts to make me wonder if I should be reporting this post as that is what I see in front of me, like some kind of subliminal message telling me what to do.

I think I would prefer it more if it was a little less invasive, maybe a small logo or something. You know it is there, but it isn't telling you what to do.

I do have one question. Matt clarified that Etsy will know the username of the flagger, but the reported poster will not. I think that's wise. But people can also flag posts while logged out so how will those be identified? Should this be a feature, like posting, which is only available to logged in registered members?

oh, I am glad that admin will be able to see the reporter. I would guess that a member that repeatedly reports posts that DO NOT break etsy rules (for their own reasons - personality clashes or competing shops) would receive some type of notice regarding frivolous or vengeful reporting.

This is a good idea! I hope it cuts down on the amount of misplaced posts/calling out/other bad stuff that happens in the forums.

Matt recanted in the forums thread. Yay! :)

matt says:
Hi,

I was wrong.

The reportee does not know they have been reported, but we are able to see the username of the reporter. in short, only you and Etsy will know you reported a post. Sorry, I was confused and spoke too soon.

So, the flagger does remain anonymous, even to Admin? Hmm... this might be a challenge for you guys.

Loosewire has the right idea! :)

Reporting has always been anonymous, in that we don't pass on who reported something to the subject of the report. Flagging works this way too.

This actually will cut down on the amount of work for the Community Team because they can more easily focus their attention, with the users' help. And it's helpful to member because they can more easily alert staff to posts that may need attention.

We're not asking members to be the judge, but merely give us a head's up when a thread needs an Admin to review it.

I'm assuming that the reporter will be anonymous to the reportee, not to admin. Hence, I support this! Yay!

No, it's anonymous to admin as well. Matt just posted in the thread stating so.

aren't you liable to be inundated with hundreds of "reportings" for a thread in the wrong area, for instance, or is there something that would tell me "this post has already been reported" if I try to do it and it's already been found??

and, how would anyone "KNOW" for certain that a post is from a sock puppet account- aren't you encouraging speculation with this option??
