Those things are hysterical! I remember seeing these in the 5&dime store in the 1970's, and even then (as a kid) I thought they were so ugly and tacky and goofy. Mostly the "I wuv you" ones and the "Lil devil" ones. I have never seen "things go better with sex". That truly has to be the crown jewel of kitsch.

Lovely article - thanks. I enjoyed it and learnt that the embroidery I've seen often here in antique/vintage shops, is actually Hungarian Matyo! I really want a piece of it sometime, but it can be a little pricey for one of the lovely examples. I LOVE the embroidery traditions in this whole region - a constant source of amazement and delight.

Krilla, yes, there are a lot to write about :-) While writing this article I read thru half of the Folk Art Lexikon :-) I have to tell, thet credits for the "related items" part are not mine. I tried to chose items "typical" Hungarian with embroidery, hemp bracelet etc...But these are much-much better :-)
