Etsy in Action: Upcoming Events

Fine furniture and fancy fleas? That's right! Check out what's happening this week in Etsy-sponsored events.

First up, the American Craft Council kicks off its Summer in the City Salon Series, with furniture designer Tyler Hays, founder of the Brooklyn-based company, BDDW. On the agenda: a discussion of handmade work and its relationship to industry. The talk is called "The Industrial Complex" and it's happening at the Council Library located at 72 Spring Street, 6th floor, New York, NY.

If you can't make it to NYC, join us in the Virtual Labs as we broadcast live, this Thursday, May 15, 6-7pm, EST. While you're at it, mark your calendars now for the next ACC Salon Series' events:

Thursday, July 24, 6-7pm, Connect/(Dis) Connect: Chanel Kennebrew, aka junkprints in conversation with jeweler Bruce Metcalf as they "explore the complicated relationships among the broad spectrum of craft makers today."

Thursday, September 18, 6-7pm, The Politics of Craft: KnitKnit's Sabrina Gschwandtner, Knitting Nation's Liz Collins and New York Times's columnist, Rob Walker weigh in on craft's "role in addressing issues of urgency in our world today."

Next up, May 17 & 18, are Etsy Days at Artists and Fleas, one of the hippest indie shopping venues in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This weekend's market will be chockful of fabulous Etsy vendors. Stop by to shop and chat with local New York Etsy sellers from 12-8pm each day. Click here for directions.

Artists and Fleas Announces an Etsy Day...Again!

Good news! We just got word from Artists and Fleas, one of the hippest indie shopping venues in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that they want declare another Etsy day on May 17 and 18! (You can read about the previous Etsy day here.) Anyone who lives in the area knows that Artists and Fleas is the Williamsburg weekend destination to find the latest and freshest designs. They have been generous enough to extend a special discount specifically to Etsy sellers that would like to participate and vend at the event. We will be there and would love to see the faces of any and all local sellers.

Etsy Day at Artists and Fleas will be May 17 and 18. Click here for directions, and be sure to apply while you still can!

Here's the scoop straight from the organizer:

Etsy vendor discount: $60 for a 5x7 space, vendors are welcome to split tables (up to 2 per table), but both vendors must be in the application for approval (we want to make sure that the market is not over saturated by any one type of product, we want a fun mix)! Also, when applying, vendors MUST include the link to their Etsy store for the discounted price! First time vendors at the market are always asked to prepay by PayPal, but if they have sold with Artists and Fleas, they can pay the day of. Vendors may apply through the site www.artistsandfleas.com. Any questions may be directed via convo to georgiavaridakis or via email to georgia@artistsandfleas.com.

The facts:

Set up is at 11am sharp, doors open at 12.
We have a restroom up front and a fitting room in the back.
For vendors that only accept cash, there is an ATM directly across the street and on every corner of Bedford and N.6th for their customers.
For vendors that need tables and chairs, we have a limited supply that they can rent for 10 dollars (they should reserve them if they need them)!
Vendors can break down after 7pm, but are more than welcome to stay as long as we are open for no additional cost. We usually get a nice after-dinner crowd and will stay open depending on the foot traffic.
Vendors are welcome to leave their items in the market at their own risk if they are returning the next day. (They should cover them well, we are not responsible for lost or damaged items.)

November News from the Etsy Labs!

A happy November to everyone! We have a fun month planned here at the Labs!

First of all, we'd like to declare the month of November Fiber month here at the Labs and on Etsy! In honor of Fiber month, EtsyFAST, Etsy's fiber team, will be making their debut in Brooklyn on Friday, November 16th, from 6pm-8pm at the Labs. You won't want to miss this show: it'll be perfect for knocking out all of your holiday shopping lists at once!

We've also got a great smattering of classes this month at the Labs, so if you're in the area or planning your NYC trip soon, be sure to reserve your spot!

We'll also be showing face Saturday, November 17th at Artists and Fleas during their specialized Etsy day, so please stop by and say hello if you are in the area. We've been enjoying seeing and meeting so many of you at our weekly Monday night craft sessions! Don't forget the space is open for usage and visitors from 4pm-8pm each Monday: bring your friends and make things with company! Need to use the space or want to see the office? We got this call for vendors from a local Brooklyn school. Here's the info, if you're interested:

Do you create and sell high quality and original goods?

The Brooklyn Heights Montessori School Parents Association is seeking boutiques and individuals who create or sell one of a kind jewelry, pottery, clothing, gourmet edibles, fine art, toys, (& etc) to be vendors at our Holiday Gift Fair on December 1, 2007. Located in Cobble Hill, BHMS can provide you with access to an upscale audience interested in purchasing unique gifts for the holidays. The cost of participation is $125 for a 6-foot table on your own or $75 to share an 8-foot table with another artist. Your profits are yours to keep.

If you are interested in submitting your work for consideration please send the application along with images (or a url) of your work and a check by November 7th to Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (this is a special deadline for Etsians, download application from http://www.bhmsny.org/data/files/News/HomepageNews/BHMSGiftFairApp.pdf). Vendors will be notified regarding their participation by the second week of November.

Oh man, this is a sweet deal you guys will want to be a part of! We just got word from Artists and Fleas, one of the hippest indie shopping venues in Williamsburg Brooklyn that they want declare an Etsy day on November 17th! Anyone who lives in the area knows that Artists and Fleas is a destination-must when perusing Williamsburg on a Saturday or Sunday to find the latest and freshest designs on the scene. They have been generous enough to extend a special discount specifically to Etsy sellers that would like to participate and vend at the event. We will be there and would love to see all of you guys in the area apply to be in the show and selling your Etsy goodies!
