It’s a quick and easy way to share what you’re all about and why you come to Etsy to shop. We want to make sure you have the best experience possible when shopping with us, and that means we need to learn more about you.

How-To Shop On the Sly: A Girl's Guide to Shopping at Work

The average employee wastes about two hours (roughly 20%) of each workday browsing the web. Best to make the most of that online time this holiday season! Since you've taken the Handmade Pledge, there's some Etsy shopping to be done, so here's the best ways to get all that holiday shopping done without your boss being any wiser to your brilliant personal to-do list multitasking.

As someone who worked in an open-office environment (no walls or cubicles to mask the browsing — the ultimate challenge in shopping at work), I cannot stress the importance of multi-tabbed browsing, being quick to switch-back to something official and important looking, and not just click-click-clicking (the right amount of keyboard usage is key to sounding like a productive employee). Once you've mastered the technique for a glance-safe screen, the next key factor is knowing where you're going. Efficiency in browsing is going to be very important here, so pay close attention!

Load up your paypal account prior to a shopping expedition on the world wide web beforehand, as having to get out your wallet and plugging in your credit card number is a sure sign you're not working on that spreadsheet that's due tomorrow or the documents you said you'd have completed by the end of the day. Now you have your funding source all set, here comes the fun part...

There are obviously infinite super fun and amazing ways to browse for outstanding gifts for anyone here on Etsy. Finding the method of shopping that works for you is very important. Shopping with a specific budget in mind? Have you tried peeking through the Gift Guides? You can select a price range to glance through for each person on your list, or you can click into guides preselected for all the important people in your life.

If you feel confident enough to brave the thousands of amazing one of a kind goods listed here, give the Time Machines a spin — scroll through recently listed pieces or, if you're feeling up to a little possible disappointment, recently sold (actually, you can check to see if they have another of the same or similar item for sale in their shops). Another favorite way to browse among Etsy Admins is to find a seller you like and glimpse through their Favorites (it's in the right hand column of every Etsy shop. Be warned some sellers set their Favorites to private, presumably so that people like us don't go buying up all the good stuff). If you've marked a bunch of good stuff as a favorite, perhaps a good tool might be the Connections tool. To get to this feature, click into "Your Etsy" > "Favorites" > "Visualizations" tab > "Connections". These are automatically generated based on your Favorites. However, use caution when using this method of shopping at work. It tends to suck you in, and you increase your risk of being caught shopping because of its highly addictive nature.

Of course, if you do get caught, you can always get yourself out of the hot seat by purchasing something fantastic for your Boss. And, given a spin around the site, chances are your boss is probably a sucker for amazing handmade goodness and does a fair amount of shopping on company time, too. Show your boss the Colors function. That usually does the trick.

The busy holiday season brings tons of new users to Etsy every day. We've written some help guides to help these newbies find their way around the site. To find the help guides, click the "Help" link at the top of any Etsy page, and then select "Help Guides" from the list on the left.

We'll be adding more guides to the list as we finish writing them, including guides on tagging, chat, Treasury, and other Etsy tools.

If you go to the How-to Help Guides and then Ways to Shop, you will see a snazzy video saguirl made that walks you through all the different ways to browse plus some tips on straight-forward searching.
