From Etsy's Merchandising Desk: September's Seasonal Shift

It's that time again, and those of us behind the scenes at Etsy would like to share our merchandising plans for September. As we continue to plan Etsy’s calendar for the year ahead with thematic merchandising, we will be incorporating many of the concepts you shared in response to August's report and continue to welcome your input. It is our goal to create a healthy balance between promotions for traditional holidays, seasonal changes, and lifestyle trends.

A special note to sellers about Halloween:

Here at Etsy, Halloween is much more than a party; it’s a cultural mindset and a source of design inspiration for many of our sellers. The history, myths, and magic of Halloween spark our imagination and inspire the creative world. We want to encourage our sellers to start thinking now about Halloween, which we envision as our major kick-off to the holiday season. In fact, this August we are launching a preview for Halloween, which will be a prelude to a major promotional launch beginning in September and taking us through the end of October. Start now to do your research. We encourage as many sellers as possible to design and produce an item that can be promoted during our Halloween 2009 campaign. Be inventive through color, pattern, and forms. Consider decorating and merchandising your shop with images to capture the flavor and spirit of the holiday.

Rounding out August

As we toast the change of season from summer to fall, we'd like to find ourselves in the midst of a beautiful vineyard. Our muses are family celebrations around the table, entertaining, rich foods, working the land, and the perfect hostess gift, all of which leads us into the harvest. We bask in the last rays of summer, taking time out for vacationing, the beach, global travel, outdoor adventures and athletics, summer barbecues, and toasting to a warm evening on the back terrace as we begin to wonder: just where did those summer months go?

Back to school continues as a featured theme and will transition from a college dorm focus into a younger focus as the traditional school year nears. On the broader side of "back to school," we are taking the opportunity to expand this theme into the idea of a fresh start, new beginning, and what it means for you. All of these ideas encompass apartment and studio design, storage solutions, office and gadget gear, and hunkering back down to business.
As we head into cooler months, we will be highlighting the seasonal transition from summer fashion and accessories into autumn fashion and accessories. We'll be placing emphasis on "build and layer" styling options, mixing new items with current staples already in your wardrobe.
The Handmade Weddings series continues as we share DIY solutions for pulling off an unforgettable affair. As with the summer fashion transition, we will begin to shift from featuring summer weddings to ones with hints of autumn and the harvest.
Halloween Preview: Etsy lends a special welcome to Halloween with the debut of our Halloween Preview Guide. Now is the time shoppers plan ahead to make custom orders for costumes and creative solutions for this favorite DIY holiday. Keep your eyes peeled for hints of everything from the harvest to the darker arts as we prepare for our full promotional buzz around Halloween.
Vintage treasures continue to steal our hearts with nostalgic grace and clever repurposing options for the home. Look for continued emphasis on ways to incorporate vintage finds into your everyday life throughout the month.
Look for an emphasis on home decor, storage solutions and all that defines home comfort as we prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

Stay Engaged in September

September marks the Autumnal Equinox and calls us into the full harvest when we begin to plan for family celebrations and the holidays ahead. We toast the coming autumn with wine, think about updating our homes with seasonal accents, and take ourselves a little less seriously with Halloween around the corner. As we place an emphasis on traditional seasonal themes throughout September and the coming months, we will also intertwine appropriate seasonal themes for those around the globe approaching warmer months.

The first weekend in September marks Labor Day, a day when many take off to relax and celebrate this symbolic end of summer in the form of a barbecue, picnic, or family gathering. It's a time for fireworks, extended weekend art shows, and relishing the final days of summer at the pool or beach. For the football fans out there, it's your time to shine as this holiday weekend usually means the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons.
After Labor Day, look for our Back to School promotions to wind down and our full Halloween promotional plans to roll out. We'll be highlighting all aspects of the holiday including costumes for adults, kids, babies and pets, decor for the home indoors and outdoors, party solutions, trick or treating accessories, food and candy alternatives, the DIY side of Halloween, the best in Halloween trends, and more. No genre of Halloween will be left in dark as we bring everything from the cute to the scary facets of this favorite holiday to the forefront.
Coinciding with our Halloween promotions, you'll notice an alternative spin on our Handmade Weddings series highlight unconventional approaches to pulling off a creative event.
September is key in showing off the height of fall fashion trends; we'll be looking to feature an autumnal spin on clothing, accessories, and jewelry. Etsy is unique in that our artists and designers are the industry trendsetters in each of their fields; we can't wait to see what's hot this season, bring emerging trends to the forefront, all the while featuring the handmade aspect of classic fall fashion staples.
Can you smell the hints of the harvest in the air? This time of year we celebrate the familiar rich earthy tones and textures in our homes and the outdoors. Classically a time for focusing on the indoors, woodland themes, primitive and folk arts, along with rustic furniture and vintage highlights
encompass many of our ideas for home decor.

If you make items that would fit well with the themes outlined, try stocking up and listing them in advance to take advantage of potential shipping deadlines. Now it's time to revisit those items to make sure your tags, titles, and descriptions reflect keywords shoppers might be looking for this time of year. We’d like to share our merchandising insights for August. As we continue to plan Etsy’s calendar for the year ahead with thematic merchandising, we will be incorporating many of the concepts you shared in response to July's report, and we will be looking for more of your input. It is our goal to create a healthy balance between promotions for traditional holidays, seasonal changes, and lifestyle trends.

Rounding Out July

As we look ahead, our larger themes will continue to center around celebrations, summer travel, antiquing, health and wellness, a taste of international culture, and relishing the outdoors.

We hope everyone had fun on Canada Day and July Fourth, spending time with family and friends. Embarking upon new adventures, summer weddings and the great outdoors remain at our core throughout the remainder of July.
July is a time when we highlight summer rituals like collecting, antiquing, the value in bringing new life to old treasures, travel, outdoor athletics, and Americana, primitive, folk, and nautical motifs.
Look for special nods to the Tour de France taking place as we speak.
Summer attire and accessories continue to complement the season as we show a little skin and get prepared for a special occasion or everyday casual wear.
Organic and fresh Bath and Beauty treatments coupled with comforting, light-weighted summer fabrics keep you calm and relaxed all throughout the warmer months.
Expect to see site wide promotions of back to school themes such as dorm decor, apartment design, storage solutions, office and gadget gear, and hunkering back down to business as we hit mid July and head into August.

It's June! Summer is teasing us as we speak, and winter has its big arms open in the land down under. Months of detailed planning and plenty of anticipation for June celebrations are now coming to fruition.

Guess what, folks? It's show time! So much to do: guest appearances to see the school play, bake sale fund-raisers, softball practice, gifts for Dad (already?), getting prepared to send the kids to camp, cutting fresh flowers and herbs, weddings and wedding gifts, and all the while, keeping your sanity!

Throughout June our larger focuses will continue to surround the promotion of Father's Day and celebrating papa bear.
Emphasized promotions around gift giving for graduations and teachers continue this month as we celebrate key milestones, accomplishments, new journeys, and the mentors that have helped along the way.

Summer soirees, outdoor entertaining, indoor and outdoor tabletop accoutrement, weekend projects and hostess gifts make an appearance in June and continue throughout July.
Enjoying new adventures and the great outdoors in the form of picnics, camping, gathering around a classic campfire, storytelling, summer travel, and cultural events important this time of year.
As we embrace cultural themes, we'll continue our series highlighting the art of collecting, pay homage to summer rituals like antiquing and the value in bringing new life to old treasures.
You can expect us to highlight outdoor athletics, hiking, backpacking, boating, biking, and a special nod to the Tour De France taking place in early to mid July.

A Dude's Perspective: Life as an Etsy Widower

I never dreamed I'd be a widower at age 35...an Etsy Widower, that is. My wife, Stacey, is survived by me, her husband, and our two daughters: Elle, age 3 and our new baby, Liv, due this August. I fear they will both grow up as Etsy Orphans. My only comfort is in the hope that others will hear our story and at least take solace in the fact that they are not alone.

(Oh, I should clarify, my wife hasn't died, I lost her to Etsy.)

Stacey has always been "crafty," and for years I've been supportive of her artistic endeavors. When she found Etsy it seemed harmless enough. We were excited that she would have a venue to share some of the things she's made that make being a mommy easier and more fun for her, like slings and cart covers. So, she opened the Elle Belle shop.

I've come to the conclusion that this site should have come with a disclaimer. I should have been warned — maybe a call, at least an email to the family members, something like "Beware, Etsy has been proven to be extremely habit forming."

I really underestimated the power of Etsy... the allure of the endless diversity of crafts, the variety of search methods, the vast network of like-minded artists. At first my wife was sewing and crafting just on weekends, but before I knew it, the arm of our couch became an impromptu pincushion, our vacuum clogged with strands of discarded threads, and she would even bring the laptop to bed to be with Etsy.

Looking back, I should have seen the warning signs. She had a whole different vocabulary. All conversational roads led to "listings," "treasuries," "tags," and "gift guides." Not only was the home page of every computer in the house set to Etsy.com, but I think I even noticed her mood change following that spiraling string of fellow crafters and customers who hearted her shop.

I'll never forget that fateful day when I overheard what was to be one of Stacey's last conversations with our daughter, Elle. She was trying desperately to convince our three year old that helping Mommy sort a box of mixed up ribbon was a fun way to spend an afternoon. But I realized the end was near when she couldn't even run a quick errand without visiting the fabric pushers or one of her thread dealers.

Stacey is in a better place now. She's gone to be with her adoring customers, loving fellow members of the Florida Etsy Street Team, and the Etsy Bloggers. She still haunts her vendors, too. I can tell from the charges that mysteriously appear in our checking account for designer fabrics, stabilizer, and crafting tools. She lives on through her tireless efforts to keep up with custom orders and dedication to her blog.

I appreciate your heartfelt condolences, and ask that in lieu of cards and flowers you send fat quarters, ribbon, and embroidery floss. Stacey would have wanted it that way.

Our daughter and I are getting along as well as could be expected, I guess, although we're worried about how the new baby will take it. We appreciate your support and want you to know we wear our Etsy Widower and Etsy Orphan shirts proudly in solidarity with all the others who share our loss. Hey, come to think of it, maybe my daughter and I should open an Etsy shop and sell those things. What's the worst thing that could happen?

Hey Dad, you're in luck! This year I know what to get you, with a little help from the Etsy community. They voted on a diverse collection of items nominated by their peers. We've got a winner: HendersonPipes with his Upright Freehand Pipe. This particular pipe sold (who is the lucky dad?), but there are plenty more where that came from. A Dude's Perspective: Squashtoys Gets Creative with Fatherhood

What lives in Central Ohio, buzzes, and makes children around the world happy? Jim from happysquashtoys! (The buzzing is coming from his wood shop.) We invited this Central Ohio local to tell us about natural toy-making and being a creative dad.

I am married to my wonderful wife Jenise and have three children. I started making wooden toys a few years ago when we decided we wanted a safe alternative to plastic toys. My first toy was a duck pull toy and I just slowly expanded from there. I quickly discovered a wonderful creative outlet and we decided to start Happy Squash Toys. I do all the woodwork and detail painting, and my wife does the sewing and paints as well.

I really love being a dad to my two boys (Aidan is 11, Wayne is 9) and my little girl (Maryam is 2). My oldest is very creative and often give me ideas for toys. He actually gave me the idea for the pull toy on the front of our website.

My middle son loves to play games, and I often test out my new ideas with him. That's him playing tic tac toe.

My little girl is by far my biggest inspiration, since most of my toys are for children her age. I love to watch her and see how she plays with the toys I create. I often get new ideas from just watching her play and seeing what interests her. This is her with the giraffe

I am in desperate need of a new wallet, and I will hopefully receive one of the great handcrafted ones on Etsy for Father's Day.

From Etsy's Merchandising Desk: Movement and Growth in June

As the weather warms up and spring starts to hint at summer, we’d like to share our merchandising insights for June. We’ve been taking note of and appreciate your comments and suggestions from our merchandising series launch. As we continue to plan Etsy’s calendar for the year ahead with thematic merchandising, we will be incorporating many of the concepts you shared in May's report, and we will be looking for more of your input. It is our goal to create a healthy balance between promotions for traditional holidays, seasonal changes, and lifestyle trends.

Rounding Out May

The Merchandising Team is moving its calendar forward to welcome the summer and plan the fall. As we move through the month of May here in North America, we're preparing for an important seasonal shift. You can feel it, sense it, almost touch it: it's the scent of summer coming upon us. Gift giving for Mother's Day will transition to Father's Day, June weddings, and graduations. Also on our minds are the undertones of proms, international travels, and the summer soiree. Guess what? The big theme is “movement” and “growth.”

Throughout May our larger focuses will surround the promotion of Father's Day and dads. Take this opportunity to introduce Dad to the world of handmade by finding a memorable gift that makes him smile. Look for a series of Gift Guides just for dads shortly after Mother's Day. We will continue to promote Father's Day across Etsy in the coming weeks.
Emphasized promotions around graduations will emerge in May and continue through June as we celebrate key milestones, accomplishments, and new journeys.
Spring plants will soon begin to flower, displaying the well-deserved rewards for dedicated gardeners. Fragrant herbs, handmade soaps, and appreciative note cards are inspiring reminders of La Primavera (spring).
We will also focus on the many wonderful items for pets that abound on Etsy.
The element of glass makes an appearance and takes a bow. Ancient glass-blowing techniques create a colorful, complex, and often transcendental sparkle as the sun peeks out.
The handmade spirit of France touches our Etsy hearts with VE Day on May 8th, our salute to the Cannes Film Festival May 13th, and the French Open on May 25th.
Color trends include sky blue, textured whites, mimosa, apricot, and eco-friendly shades of green.
Remember, emeralds glisten as birthstones for birthdays and babies in May, and May's astrological signs are Taurus and Gemini (April 21 - May 20: Taurus and May 21 - June 21: Gemini).
As May continues, emphasized Category promotions will center around the Weddings, Housewares, Books and Zines, and Paper Goods.
We will also be emphasizing handmade tabletop settings, garden soirees, barbeques, and family get togethers as we approach Memorial Day weekend (May 25).

Stay Engaged in June

Venturing into June, our larger themes will center around seasonal holidays, celebrations, summer travel, and relishing the outdoors. As we place an emphasis on outdoor and summer themes throughout June and the coming months, we will also intertwine appropriate seasonal themes for those around the globe approaching cooler weather.

The primary merchandising focuses throughout June will be an extension of our salute to Papa Bear, with Father's Day on June 21st. We will also nod our hats to new graduates during this notable season for graduations.
Look for highlights on June weddings, Americana, folk art, nautical motifs, the art of collecting, garden parties, picnics, housewarming and hostess gifts, cultural events, travel-friendly toys, and bath and body.
We will continue our transition from indoors to outdoors, entertaining, play time, and the pursuit of new crafting hobbies.
Look for a few fun highlights in experimental jewelry design. Show some skin this season with handmade necklaces and summer fashion to dance a warm weather nights away.
Pearls come into play as June's birthstone, and June's astrological signs are Gemini and Cancer (May 21 - June 21: Gemini, June 22 - July 22: Cancer).
June's emphasized Category promotions will center around Vintage, Geekery, Supplies, and Needlecraft.
We are planning a site-wide promotion opportunity for sellers in early July. This event will be a perfect time to clear out odds and ends, samples, and seasonal inventory as we all begin to gear up for the 2009 holiday season. Our plan is to make it playful, irreverent, and practical at the same time. Buyers enjoy opportunities to acquire something original and special at a good value. Stay tuned, as we'll be releasing more details as we approach the summer.

If you make items that would fit well with the seasonal themes outlined, try stocking up and listing them in advance to take advantage of potential shipping deadlines. Do you already have items in your shop that meld well? That's great! Now it's time to revisit those items to make sure your tags, titles, and descriptions reflect key words shoppers might be looking for this time of year. Etsy Find: Thanks, Dad!

Father's Day is a tough one for me. Being a father is the most important (and most fun) job I will ever have, and a day that recognizes that is awesome. But it is also a day I spend thinking of my father who passed away in 2006 — I wish I could share that day with my kids AND my dad. My father was a husband, a reader, a midshipman, an opera buff, a sports fan (his ultimate date was an Eagles game), a publisher, a chef, a traveler, a runner, a great writer of thank you notes, a gentleman and so many other things. Of all those things, the one he did the best was be a father, and for that I thank him.

So what would he want for Father's Day? The same thing I want: a day with my kids, with a little time carved out to read the paper. (And maybe a nap.)

So why cutting boards? Well, a big part of any weekend, much less Father's Day, was my dad cooking. He loved handmade things and I'd have loved to watch him slice my steak on one of these. This set of three cutting boards by phylsugarbear would do the trick.

Men's gifts are the hardest! All the men in my life don't appreciate chotchkes, clothing and shoes — and those are the areas where I have serious shopping skills. Etsy Finds: Something for Dudes

So, it turns out, I'm a dude.

Yup, while it may come as a surprise to some, it wasn't much of a surprise to me. When I was a youngin', I had pretty much gotten used to the idea before it was really clear to me what a dude was. Not that a dude should be anything specific: I mean, anybody can be a dude if they really are inclined to be one. That being said, if you know someone who strives to be a dude, but is unsure how to best do so, I'd suggest they heed the following facts.

There are two things that make dudes "dudes," and those two things are undoubtedly smokin' and rockin'. Cigars and guitars are about the two most important things in any dude's life, so any potential dude ought abide by those rules. Other things include drinkin', shootin' and breakin' stuff. What y'oughtta take away from this is that above all else is smokin' and rockin'.

Which brings me to my Etsy Find, which combines the best of both worlds into the utmost manifestation of dude: kwithrow's cigar box guitar. This guitar is what any dude is lookin' for in life, or at least what any dude oughtta be looking for in said dude's duty-cycle.

The Generations of Men on Etsy

During our Virtual Labs office hours, Etsian abitabite tipped the Storque that a post about humbleglory, Rith, and donaldrith would make an interesting story about three generations of men on Etsy — ripe for our Dude's Perspective series. Turns out this family has even more relatives on Etsy than we'd thought:

My name is Gary Rith, my shop is Rith.etsy.com and I have been a full-time potter for eleven years. I live outside of Ithaca, NY with my studio, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 wife. My father Donald Rith aka donaldrith is a watercolorist who lives an hour away and my nephew is Ben Rith-Najarian aka humbleglory, who is an alchemist (etc). Ben's mother aka riversedge, Ben's sister aka leslierrn, and Ben's other aunt aka janetexcat are all also Etsy artists.

I was the first to join Etsy. I had read about Etsy winter of 2006-07 and got started, and then talked to my father and sister and then they got involved, and Ben too.

I make pottery on the wheel and sculpture. I would not say there are any direct influences between us, but our family has been making art for generations, so it seems to be hereditary.

donaldrith, the grandfather in the group, spoke a bit about tuning into Etsy after his retirement. He made me think about all the Etsians out there who must have retiring fathers who, now free of their day jobs, turn their attentions to something more creative:

I took up painting watercolors upon retirement from teaching at the State University of New York College at Brockport twelve years ago. At that time my daughter Janet Rith-Najarian who also sells various home made crafts such as hats and other wearing apparel for small dogs including Pugs in particular, sent me a set of watercolor paints and said "get going!"

I was further encouraged to engage with Etsy by my son Gary Rith, a potter and ceramics expert, who also sells his ceramics creations through Etsy and is very successful at it. But that is not the only family involvement. My granddaughter Leslie Rith-Najarian has her own unique creations she sells on Etsy and plans to continue to do so even while attending Harvard University as a first year student this fall.

Thus, as this Father's Day approaches, I feel very fortunate indeed to have, along with myself, such talented children and grandchildren involved in such entrepreneurial experiences through Etsy.

The Riths are a great example, then, not just of men on Etsy but of many family members engaged in making things by hand. As humbleglory put it, "I was raised with the idea that a handmade/created gift was better than a store bought gift."

And while they claim that their artwork doesn't directly influence each other, I wonder if the generations — both older and younger — set examples to each other, nudge each other, encourage each other to share their respective work with the world. Maybe the entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm, and drive is passed on.

And each has his own way of doing business. After speaking with Gary, I realized he is an example of a talented artist using Etsy on his own terms. He was already an established potter and sees Etsy as just another venue for his sales. I asked him about his thoughts on the Etsy community, and I found his point-of-view to be one not often voiced on Etsy, above the clamour of the intensive users aka the "Etsy addicts":

The three of us guys tend to be solitary. It seems that many people, perhaps women more than men, enjoy socializing on Etsy. I am a member of the EtsyMudTeam and Beagles Team, but don't have the time to [be involved]. It is exhausting trying to keep up with all of it, and I don't know how Etsy or groups could better draw men in. Etsy to me is a minor offshoot of my blog http://grpottersblog.blogspot.com where I daily describe my work and ideas. I sell hundreds of items directly through my blog each year. I think the difference is that the blog is mine to control and be at the center of, whereas Etsy and the teams and groups are in somebody else's control. If I could blog directly on my Etsy page every day, I would do that instead, but as it is I have to use blogger.

Gary does not want to "socialize" on Etsy and speaks about the spread-too-thin feeling many of us get when tackling all of our online activities layered on top of our real-life lives — like so many blankets on top of the bed. How is one supposed to make one's bed in the morning when there's so many blankets, nevermind get in it and feel confortable at bedtime? We've all experienced the moment when, after finally catching up on email and checking in on Etsy and writing a blog post and checking the other websites we use — when all that is done, we find that the day is almost over.

I hear this lament from different types of people. I'm not sure if it's related to gender or even if it's a "generation thing." I think certain artist/business people prefer to carve out their own space while some prefer to work collaboratively within a pre-existing space — when it comes to the creative process and/or the social networking that supports and facilitates a business community. Perhaps too much social networking could become detrimental, according to humbleglory:

I spent some time in the community parts of Etsy at first, and it really helped sales and exposure. But it can become quite stressful at times.

The Rith's ways of doing business on Etsy show that there are many different modes of using the site. From this, I would put forth that Etsy should develop other tools to help support this sort of user — more ways to adapt Etsy to one's outside blog or website, an extended profile page for portfolio work, ways for families to help get relatives started, and perhaps opt-in blogs for each shop.

Etsy Finds: A Daddy, a Daughter, Father's Day

Have you noticed that as you get older, your tastes change? Like when I was a kid, I had a real sweet tooth. Now my discerning palette prefers more grown-up flavors.

It's the same thing with gift giving. I really appreciate a gift that I know the giver really treasures: I am touched by their imparting it to me. Which brings me to the subject at hand, Father's Day. My daughter and I are both looking forward to this celebration of daddydom; it's a day we get to spend together and have fun. I also know that she is quite keen on getting me a special gift. I am so looking forward to seeing what she gets me, because I know it will be something she values greatly. But since I am in my 40s and she is 5, I expect it will be something that really appeals more to her than me, but that is okay: it's the thought that counts!

For me, there is nothing better than kicking back with one of my favorite libations. Now, I don't always drink beer, but when I do — I prefer Pabst Blue Ribbon. Here are a pair of classy etched beer mugs by polymer, for when one cold one at a time just ain't enough.

Etsy Finds: Being A Dad with Videogames

Tabo is an engineer at Etsy, who lives and works remotely in Peru. This is his first Etsy Find.

Growing without a father wasn't difficult to me, at all. But I noticed that there was something wrong when I became a parent some years ago: sometimes I didn't know how to react or how to talk to my kid: since I never had a father-son relationship as a son, I didn't know how to have a father-son relationship as a father.

So I took a very simple approach to the problem:

Be his friend.
Don't force my view of the world on him.
Nintendo.

You see, I spent most of the free time in my childhood with a NES console, rescuing princesses and fighting against Dr Wily. Years later I was saving a world in the Valley of Bowser and becoming a Shoryuken expert.

So when my son turned 4 years old a couple of months ago, I knew it was time to introduce him to videogames. I bought a Nintendo wii, and life is not the same anymore. First I thought that he was going to play games for little kids, but turns out he loves the old games I bought, the same games I used to play 15 or 20 years ago. Old pixelated 8 bit games. He loves them, and he is quite good at them.

We play together a lot, we joke, we laugh, we have a great time together. Even when he beats me all the time in Mario Kart Wii (I used to be good in the original Mario Kart, I swear), and he is invincible with Kirby in Super Smash Bros Brawl (but we all know Kirby is imba!), we have a great time.

So what would I want for Father's Day?

Handmade stuff for my Nintendo system, of course. Something that gives me luck, something that can help me defeat my son's Kirby.

Being a dad is great.

Hidden inside my baseball card collection are some of my most valuable possessions from my youth. Collecting cards for me was a way to learn about the teams and the players and have an opportunity to brag whenever I got a special player, or a rare card. Etsy Find: Am I Losing My Marbles?

Way back when, I wrote a few articles about gifts to buy women. Turnabout is fair play, so the Storque asked me to write about what I want to get for Father's Day. Uh oh. I'm horrible to shop for! I went back through my own advice to others and picked up on this: go for something to do together. For my family, this usually means some time at the zoo or bike riding, but for this Father's Day I want this marble roller construction set by countreetoyshoppe.

My kids and I will have a great time putting this together and I won't have to wear a tie anytime soon!
