Etsy's holiday shopping season sprung into full effect during November of 2009. We'd like to share these encouraging numbers with you.

Here are the stats:

$21.9 million of goods were sold by our community in November, roughly 24% higher than October's $18 million.
That represents 1,297,964 items sold for the month, 22% higher than October’s 1,065,475.
1,931,988 new items were listed in the month, 16.4% higher than October's 1,659,220.
246,230 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, up 43,218, or 21% from October.
680,742,203 page views were recorded on the site this month.

203,012 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, up 13,210, or 7% from September.
610,284,313 page views were recorded on the site this month.

$12.8 million of goods were sold, roughly 4% lower than May's $13.3 million
That represents 787,692 items sold for the month, 4% lower than May’s 817,070
1,315,547 new items were listed in the month, 0.1% lower than May’s 1,316,977
157,000 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, down 3,000, or 2% from May
484,227,357 page views were recorded on the site this month, a 2.7% decrease from May

We're tracking Etsy's progress, and we want to share some of the figures with you. Keep in mind that April was one day shorter than March.

The stats for April 2009:

    * $12.6 million of goods were sold; roughly 5% higher than March's $12 million.
    * That represents 786,825 items sold for the month.
    * 1,277,442 new items were listed in the month, 4% lower than March’s 1,321,317.
    * 154,000 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, down 3,000, or 2% from March.
    * 491,876,705 page views were recorded on the site the month of April. That's a 2% decrease from    March.

Etsy Statistics: February 2009 Weather Report

February is a short month on days, but not on results for Etsy. We weathered the economic storm and had a great month. As a whole the numbers were a bit lower than January, but considering the fact that we are comparing a 31 day month to a 28 day month, we are very pleased with the results.

The stats:

$10.2 million of goods were sold; roughly 2% higher than January's $9.9 million.
That represents 682,631 items sold for the month, about the same number from January’s stats.
1,140,185 new items were listed in February, down from 1,203,417 items or 5.5% vs. January.
132,000 new members joined the Etsy community, down 6,000, or 5% from January.
436,393,107 page views were recorded on the site, a 1.6% decrease from January.

Etsy Statistics: January 2009 Weather Report

Every year, January is an interesting month at Etsy: we know that sales will be down when compared to the prior month, December, but listings will go up, as folks re-stock their shops after the holiday season. We also pay very close attention to how sales change from week-to-week. As we approach Valentine’s Day we expect the last week of January to exceed the first.

We were pleased with January results: the numbers exceeded our expectations in these difficult economic times.

The stats:

$9.9 million of goods were sold; roughly 23% below December's sales figure (sales for the last full week of January represented a 9.3% increase above the first full week of January).
That represents 683,369 items sold for the month, a 16.2% decrease from December's stats.
1,203,417 million new items were listed in January, up from 1,098,644 items or 9.2% vs. December.
138,000 new members joined the Etsy community, 16.3% below December's record number of new members.
443,468,017 page views were recorded on the site, an 8.1% increase compared to December.

Etsy Statistics: December Celebrated the Holidays

All of us here at Etsy were very anxious to see the December results and I have to say, they were worth waiting for!

$12.9 million of goods were sold — a 20% increase over November.
That represents 815,327 items sold, a 13.4% increase from November's stats.
1,098,644 new items were listed, down from 1,143,942 items last month, a 4% decrease.
164,789 new members joined the Etsy community — a 22% increase. That number included 19,481 new sellers.
410,365,372 page views were recorded on the site, essentially the same number as November.

November definitely saw a start to the holiday season here at Etsy and a strong one at that – we saw great growth week over week and had 12 record sales volume days in the month.

Here are November’s key numbers, each of which represent the highest total ever:

$10.8 million of goods were sold — a 28% increase over October.
That represents 719,145 items sold, a 24.5% increase from October's stats.
1,143,942 new items were listed, up from 976,234 items last month, a 17.1% increase.
135,165 new members joined the Etsy community, including 22,744 new sellers.
410,634,499 page views were recorded on the site, a 14.5% increase from October.

We're definitely keeping our eye on the economic conditions here at Etsy, but despite the turmoil, we still had another record setting month in October.

Here are October’s key numbers, each of which represent the highest total ever:

$8.4 million of goods were sold — a 5.9% increase over September.
That represents 577,398 items sold, a 6% increase from September's stats.
976, 234 new items were listed, up from 911,191 items last month, a 7.1% increase.
102,778, new members joined the Etsy community, including 19,689 new sellers. That’s our first month ever with over 100,000 new members — a 6.5% increase vs. September.
358,000,000 page views were recorded on the site, a slight increase from September.

Etsy Statistics: September, Still Sunny!

I apologize for the delay in publishing these — we're working on revamping the information we send out and were hoping to have these changes in place for this month.

Here are September’s key numbers, all of which represent the highest total ever for their categories:

$7.93 million of goods sold — a 5% increase over August.
That represents 544,157 items sold, a 5.3% increase from August's stats.
911,191 new items were listed, up from 869,000 items last month, a 4.9% increase.
96,473, new members joined the Etsy community, including 18,001 new sellers. Both of these rates of new sellers and new buyers are essentially flat from last month.
344,000,000 page views were recorded on the site, a slight increase from August.

A few things to consider with these numbers: September has one less day than August, which makes a significant difference as we start having $300,000 sales days (that’s right — even in these tough economic times, we set a single day record on Sept 30th: $305,000!).

...We avoided them last month! August was another month of good stats, and August 15th was the biggest day we’ve ever had: 18,484 items sold for a total of $287,000!

Here are August’s key numbers, all of which represent the highest total ever for their categories:

$7.55 million of goods sold — a 6.5% increase over July.
That represents 516,600 items sold, a 6.1% increase from July's stats.
869,000 new items were listed, up from 813,000 items last month, a 6.9% increase.
96,100 new members joined the Etsy community, including 18,300 new sellers, both increases in sellers and buyers from last month.
340,000,000 page views were recorded on the site — a 4.9% increase.

...Not at Etsy! We had a fantastic July, even with the July 4th holiday slowing everyone down a bit. July 31st was the biggest day we’ve ever had: 18,291 items sold for a total of $267,195!

Here are July’s key numbers, all of which represent the highest total ever for their categories:

    * $7.0 million of goods sold — a 9.8% increase over June.
    * That represents 487,000 items sold, a 10% increase from June's stats.
    * 813,000 new items were listed, up from 742,000 items last month, a 9.5% increase.
    * 87,000 new members joined the Etsy community, including 16,000 new sellers, both increases from last month.
    * 324,000,000 page views were recorded on the site — a 7.6% increase.

Etsy Statistics: June Numbers Heating Up?

Here's an update on how we did during the month of June here at Etsy. We broke one major milestone record with 301,850,000 page views, up from last month’s 298,000,000 — our first 300,000,000 page view month ever!

Here are the rest of June’s key numbers:

$6.5 million of goods sold - roughly the same as May.
That represented 442,000 items sold, a slight drop from May’s number.
742,000 new items were listed, up from 730,000 items last month.
80,000 new members joined the Etsy community, including 15,000 new sellers, both slight increases from last month.

Etsy Statistics: May Flowers Indeed!

Thanks to all of the terrific members of the Etsy community who made May 2008 another record month with all-time highs in both amount of goods sold, new listings and page views.

The numbers for May:
•   $6.5 million sold here on Etsy last month — 8.3% more than April.
•   449,000 items were sold to make up that sales figure.
•   A tiny bit over 730,000 new items were listed.
•   65,200 new buyers and 14,400 new sellers joined the community.

We were very close to 300,000,000 page views for the month (we came in at 298,000,000) and we had our highest traffic day ever: 10,500,000 this past Wednesday, May 28th.

Etsy Statistics: April $howers

Frankly, we were a little worried about April’s numbers at the start of the month: Easter, a big shopping holiday, was in March this year, and April has one less day than March.

Overall, our fears were unfounded — while our growth wasn’t quite as robust as March, we did hit some terrific milestones.
The numbers:

295,797,972 pageviews, up 4% compared to March.
There were 710,000 new items listed, up 1%.
427,000 items sold, up 6% from March’s number.
We added over 65,000 new buyers, essentially flat vs. March, but an impressive number, nonetheless.

The milestones? We sold over $6 million for the first time ever, an 8% increase over March! Also, April 30th was Etsy’s biggest day ever, with 16,580 items sold, representing $256,000. Thanks, CNN!

March Numbers: No Foolin'

As tempted as I was to post this yesterday and throw some April Fool’s numbers into this article, March’s numbers were just too good to mess with. You better believe it!

All of the numbers below are the highest Etsy has ever achieved, even more than this past December 2007!

We sold a hair over 400,000 items representing $5.6 million. There were just over 700,000 new items listed.

We added over 66,000 new registered buyers to the site and they contributed to the incredible number of page views in March: 285 million.

Wow, what a month — no foolin’!

Etsy Statistics: Hot in February?!?!?

We’re a little slow on the newscast this month as Bre is flying around the US spreading Etsy video awesomeness. Instead of waiting for his return, we thought it was a good idea to at least give you the Weather Report for February. We track a lot of numbers, but there are five in particular that we pay close attention to and share with the community:

New Items listed: 612,641. In January, there we 575,174 new items listed, so this is a new record and an increase of 7%. In February 2007, 148,422 new items were listed. Wow — 312% more than a year ago!
New Users: February saw 75,458 new users join Etsy, up from 68,013 in January — an 11% increase. In February 2007, 22,392 new users joined — a 236% increase.
Items Sold: We sold 349,092 items in February, an increase of 11% over January and a whopping 273,043 more than February 2007!
$ Sold: We sold $4.8 million worth of goods in February, 13% over January and $3.8 million more than February 2007.
Page Views: We crossed the 250,000,000 page views mark for the first time in February — 7% more than January.

Etsy Statistics: Weather Report from the Storque Newscast

What’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today?

We all want to know how Etsy is doing statistics-wise, and I’m here to tell you, the weather in October was great. Our original October forecast called for lots of newly listed items. The Etsy community delivered, with 376,539 new items, which is an increase of 20% over the number of new items listed in September. We expect to see over 1,000,000 items for sale on Etsy by Dec 1!

We also saw tremendous growth in shopping in October. We keep a close watch on the number of pages viewed on Etsy.com and there were 162,907,375 page views in October, a 23% increase over September. All the new items and all of that traffic generated sales of 218,455 items (20% increase), representing $2,966,160 worth of goods sold for the month (21% increase).

Perhaps most importantly we had almost 40,000 new buyers register in October.

The forecast for November is for even better growth as we lead up to the holiday season. Stay tuned!
