The Handmade Wedding Series gazed at the 1980s in full glory with Confections' post. Without further ado, here are the amazing 1970s stylings of vintagethisretrothat's parents. Vintage inspiration!
My mothers gown was $110.00.
The wedding gown was bought way before she even had any intentions of getting married. She saw the gown in a store window, like love at first sight! She called my grandmother and said, "I think I’ve found the gown I’ll get married in," long before any wedding or engagement.
I think one of the more endearing qualities of my parents' wedding is how quintessentially 1970s they appear. You have some real iconic fashions going on in this wedding: my uncle's platforms, big double-bridge glasses, Polyester suits with ruffles! I feel like asking my mom, "Mom, who designed dad's suit? Liberace?!?" Looking back, I can’t believe my mom thought a mile high waist ruffle polyester suit would look stupendous on the groom!
This was a very small town wedding, my mother and her family did all the work. from cooking food to decorating. Imagine: no wedding planner or wedding professionals, my mom did all the planning herself. The wedding cakes and decorations were all made by my mother's sister-in-law.
The whole family got involved and helped out.
And the wedding song my parents chose? “Color My World” by Chicago.

My Mom and Dad had the same song, and my mom's bridesmaid's wore the same hats...but they were lime green instead of white. My mom actually rented her dress.

my parent's 1970's wedding was a diy affair as well, and everything was purple, from the cake to the gown. I have pictures from my nana and papa's 1940's PINK wedding, but they'd take me a week or so to get access to.

I was a little kid in the 70s but I feel so attached to that time.
My mom used to make wedding and bridesmaid dresses. She put together a wedding or 2 for friends back then, too. I remember watching her make the dresses and prepare the food.
It was an awesomely innocent time.

I have photos of my 1965 wedding. I have a really wonderful shot of the bouquet toss.

1980. Still very groovy. My mother's friend had what I would consider an afro. Not sure if this was the "theme," but my father took in stray dogs, so around the wedding cake they placed tiny dog figurines and in the hallway of their apt. building they took a photo with the dogs. It's so my parents, I love it!

Fab post! How cute were your parents?
I find your dad's Liberace suit to be terribly shiek :)
