Each week, the Hello Craft Podcast collects stories of making and buying handmade. tinaseamonster, who runs the podcast, wants to hear your stories from the holiday — what handmade gifts did you give and receive? What weird and wonderful, touching or sad tales do you have to share? Here's the latest episode to get you in that storytelling mood!
This week's episode includes three stories of handmade holidays. Kelly Rand of I Heart Orange tells us about a lost gift found, Tina Seamonster refuses a Christmas tree skirt, and Meaghan O'Malley of Oh Ginger explains why making for the holidays is important to her.

This is precisely what I love about Etsy -- the personality and personal stories. Thanks for making the good, bad, heartwarming, funny (you get the idea) availabel for all!!
It reminds me that although I may never actually WEAR the iron-on teddy bear sweatshirt that Grandma made me (and that Cabbage Patch look-alike hand painted lamp STILL scares me), but there was a LOT of love behind it. You just can't beat handmade like that.

Fantastic!
This year I got my fiance a silver guitar pick engraved with "kismet" for Christmas. Guess what he got me?! A silver necklace engraved with "kismet"! It was just... KISMET! Only Etsy allowed us such creativity and we will continue to shop for one another here as long as we both shall live! We just love the sellers here that allow us to give such amazing gifts!

Always such wonderful things to be found on Etsy. How can anyone pass up a unicorn hat for their favorite kid? Or the Angel Wing necklace for a friend? Love everything!!

that unicorn hat is soooo adorable! I wish I had someone to buy it for.

This year my best pal, Piccoladonna2006, and I exchanged handmade gifts! I got the sweetest trio of crocheted bowlies and phone case in exchange for a handmade crochet hooks holder from me...totally came as a surprise to her! Luckily she didn't have one, so it was the perfect gift..and her expression and gratitude for receiving the gift was a million thanks!!! I am blessed to have met her through Etsy! She makes my day a little brighter!
I also received a sweet baby ellie necklace from Laura at Modern Bird Jewelry...something I will cherish forever and do not want to take off!! I feel so blessed to have her!!!
Thank you Etsy for this amazing community of artists! I have met some fabulous friends and wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world! God bless!

A true & special story:
A little old lady has come up to me at the same craft show each year to buy a little blue vase from me.
One year I asked her why... She related a story that I will never forget:
Long ago, during World War II, she escaped Nazi Germany to England where a well to do family took her in as a house keeper. War times were lean and there wasn't much to go around. But the lady of the house made sure that her house keeper didn't go without a Christmas gift... She gave her a little blue vase...
Now, years later, and in her mid to late 70's (or perhaps older) she has a girl that comes in and cleans her house. And at Christmas time, she buys one of my little blue vases and gives it to her house keeper!
See a similar vase at:

P.S. That's one of those things that makes it worth all long hours. I do this for a living and people's stories are part of what keeps me going. They have this understanding and appreciation for our work and that is so important.
Buy handmade and tell your crafters and artists why their work is important to you! = )

I am recovering from postnatal depression and my craft has kept me going through it all. Only god knows where I would be without it. I love the etsy community and the sense of belonging.
Eventhough I am new, I feel like I've come home. Etsy, where have you been all my life?

For Christmas this year my boyrfriend and I both (unknowingly) ordered each other gifts off the same etsy site. We are both writers and got each jewelery that showcased our love of literature. Etsy is a small world after all. ;-)
