These videos were really helpful and have given me lots of ideas. I love the embroidered labels, I'll definitely be trying that myself when I start selling clothes. I also really like the recycling idea, but I think I'm going to have to use some attractive recycled paper (possibly homemade) with maybe some lace decoration, as library slips and metro cards don't really fit with my burlesque/1950s/kitsch themed shop!

thanks for teh tips!
There are a couple shops in town that sell local handmade stuff and the handmade tags do draw the eye, especially when the packaging and display are really cool.
...2 more minutes of preparation really makes the difference, I think.

Since I'm watching the video at work with no sound, I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but there are federal label laws for items made of wool and other natural fibers. It is required for all commercial and even handmade clothing and accessories.

Here's an article about labeling with a tutorial and a lot of resource links:
http://thefunkyfelter.blogspot.com/20...

I make my own labels and hang tags. Recently, I decided to buy some custom stamps with my company info and logo on them. I now use them to make nifty little crafty hang tags on various scrapbook paper. I also use the stamps and fabric compatible ink to make clothing and accessory labels out of ribbon. It works really well so far and is much less expensive than buying woven labels which aren't in my budget at the moment.

Thanks so much for the video! I need to watch it with the sound once I get home ;)

Something so small and simple can make a big impact, I've been wanting to sell more items that require shipping, and this is a good way to prepare a head of time and have them ready for use.

Thanks,

Great ideas. It's so important to appreciate and refer to other artists' works. The other thing I found helpful was running a tutorial or how to articles in my blog. That is when I found most traffic in my blog spot.

thanks! I love the idea of using simple embroidery for the size label! I was like "DUH!" lol It makes perfect sense and it is so much more reasonable then buying size labels!

HOME-MADE FABRIC LABELS: I make fabric labels by using ready made fabric sheets, 8 1/2 X 11 inch size, and a label program and an ink jet printer. I design them in a label program such as Avery Label Pro, or the like, and print the labels out on the fabric sheets instead of printing the labels on the ready made Avery (or the like) sheets of paper for address address labels, like 30 on a page. These are best for craft items that don't go in the washing machine that often. One can even make up some with garment info, such as size, washing instructions, etc. to clothing. Ink jet printers are mostly used with the fabric labels. I also let the labels set for about a week before using them and make up a sheet of 30 at a time. Cold water wash for the labels and no bleech to be used on the labels so the ink doesn't fade on the labels.

More home-made fabric labels: I use a similar method to Oceanpeg's, but I print my logos and size labels on inkjet transfer paper, cut them out and iron them on to single-fold bias tape. These are more likely to survive going through the wash. I've found that color printing set on white looks best for what I want, but black printing set on a color looks pretty spiffy as well.

Thanks for the great ideas for hang-tags! I especially appreciate the link to the requirements for labels.

I am working on my tags now! I used a CriCut to cut a tag shape. I am going to stamp "thank you" and my logo with my web address and email on it too. I thought I could also use the hang tags for craft shows and stamp the price on the back!
