Carolyn, aka AutumnLeavesJewelry, has started putting up videos that share her work and process. In this video, she's turning the camera on herself and her workbench and walking us through the process of making stamped silver earrings that support a political candidate. She's just started with video, but her personality shines through.
This video is a great window into her workshop. We get a chance to see her workbench and tools! Want to make your own videos? Check out the Getting Started in Video series and share your world in moving pictures!
Want more fun political posts? See this article — Bark the Vote — about pets stating their causes (AutumnLeavesJewelry is mentioned in it too!).

Fun video, but I have to say there are multiple mistakes with her techniques, and ones that instructors would strongly advise against for reasons of safety.

The video is the thingie with the arrow over the picture. I'd like to know what she did wrong as I'm trying to learn stamping too.

Thank you guys for your comments and Bre for showing my first how-to video for Etsy, I'm enjoying reading and watching your video tutorials!
ninadinoff you are SO RIGHT!!!! I DID FORGET, ALWAYS, always ALWAYS wear safety glasses when using ANY machine, I should have had my goggles on when using my flex shaft!!! (thank you SO much for pointing that out!!!)

Thanks so much, I have been wondering what the process was. I may try jewelry tags for my shop - now! Thanks Again!

There aren't any mistakes, each student approaches her craft from her own perspective. (I have been taking classes for years from a well known Smither and he has seen the video.) I DID forget to wear safety goggles! doh!
Some people only hit the stamp once, some people might choose to line up each letter using a ruler or marker. You might also find you prefer to use a rubber or rawhide mallet instead of a metal hammer. It's really all a matter of practice practice practice.
This is my way of stamping and it works for me. Once you start you may find your technique to be much different! Thanks for watching the video!
You can convo me if you have any specific questions!!!
:-) thanks!

Great video Carolyn. Everyone has their own techniques and to say a technique is wrong is silly. Yours obviously works great for you cause your stuff is awesome.

Congratulations of this feature Carolyn! The video is fabulous. I did not wear safety glasses using my flex shaft in my video, so don't feel too bad :)

Carolyn, thanks for sharing your video! I love how you are so comfortable with your tools!

Great video! Just as said earlier, everyone has their own technique for doing things. Thats why practise is soo important- find what works for YOU!

I didn't mean for my comment to come off as harsh as it did. We all have different ways of doing things, and I recognize that. It is always good to remind your audience of safety measures, though. I think it's fantastic that you made a video and put yourself out there. Good on ya! :)

Thank you catherinechandler, yes we all have varied was of approaching our art ;-)

Yes, and I think the best approach to teaching is to recognize to our students that we all have our own ways of doing things, but to teach in a "standard" format, always reminding the students of safety measures, hammering techniques, etc. I think most teachers teach in a standard format to a. enforce safety and standard techniques and b. to keep themselves safe from lawsuits/liability. But that's probably a whole other discussion! :)

Thank you! I have always wanted to know how to hand-stamp on metal. Your video tips were well welcomed. I'm also thinking of ordering a pair of your Obama earrings/
