Once Wed is the kind of wedding blog that consistently makes me drool. Their featured one-of-a-kind receptions rely heavily on vintage and handmade, from the capelets to the guest books. For this week's How-Tuesday, Once Wed's contributor lalalaurie shares an easy-to-follow cake stand project that would instantly transform a tablescape from generic to woodland-magical.
- A Cross-Cut Wood Plaque (round or oval)
- A Cross-Section of a Tree Limb (Make sure the top and bottom are parallel)
- Titebond Ultimate Wood Glue (or a similar extra strong wood glue)
- A Large Wood Clamp
Instructions:
Cross-cut wood plaques can be found in your local craft store or online at Hofcraft. They come in a variety of sizes ranging from 5 inches to 12 inches in diameter. They are usually found in the section with the wood-burning kits and other wood crafts. They are clean, sanded and ready to use.

1. Take your tree limb section and wipe the cut surface clean. Put a generous amount of extra strong wood glue on the surface.

2. Place the limb section in the center of the wood plaque's back side and press down firmly. Wipe away any excess glue with a clean, damp cloth.
3. Place the two joined pieces in a wood clamp and let dry for at least one hour. If you don’t have a wood clamp, you can stack a few heavy books on top of your pedestal until it’s dry.

4. Use your pedestals to display cakes and desserts or use as a base for a centerpiece. If you want to place food directly on the wood surface, coat it first with a food-safe wood sealer. If you would like the wood to keep its natural color, place a piece of parchment paper beneath your cake or dessert.
More crafty projects can be found in our How-Tuesday series on the Etsy blog. And did you know that you can buy Supplies on Etsy?

This is an AWESOME way to display a wedding cake. It makes me want to get married again to my husband. I think that it would be a great display for an outdoorsy-hippey style wedding. Much Talent!

This is great! I almost bought a cake stand the other day in HomeGoods because I want one for my dresser to keep my jewelry that is in "heavy rotation." This wood stand is WAY COOLER!!!! I will definitely make me one of these!

I love it! This would be perfect for our outdoor-themed wedding (much more fun than the vintage silver-plate pedestal that I already bought). Unfortunately, I doubt I'll have time to make it before we leave town for the wedding trip in a week.
Love that moss ring bearer pillow and the lemon citrus vintage dress!

What a great idea! I wish I had seen this before my wedding. It would have fit perfectly in my motif. I ended up borrowing one from my sister but this would have been cool!

The cake stand is a great idea. In fact, I recently had to have two of my favorite maple trees cut down. I asked one of the tree workers to slice me off a slab from one of the trunks. He surprised me and cut three slabs. I will be making three cake stands in the near future.
Thanks for the idea.

How creative! Although rustic, it makes the cake look elegant! Great idea! Thanks for the how to!
