Tech Update + How-To: Download your Sales and Billing Data to a Spreadsheet

Sellers who do their own accounting will be excited to hear this: you can now download your sales information to your computer in CSV format ( Here here! for "comma separated values")!

A CSV is a type of file that can be opened by programs such as Microsoft Excel or Open Office Calc (a free spreadsheet program). If you go to Your Etsy > Sold (orders) you'll now see a link at the bottom to "Download this sales data as a CSV." By selecting the month and year near the top of the page, you can download sales info from your shop for each month you've been in business.

Did you know CSV files are also available for your monthly Etsy bill? To download a month's worth of billing information, click on the appropriate month in Your Etsy > Your Etsy Bill and click "Download this entire monthly statement as a CSV file."

If you've never used a CSV file before, we'll walk you through downloading it to your computer and opening the file. It's easy!

First, save the file to your hard drive.

Next, open the file with your spreadsheet program. You may need to select "All files" in the list of file types.

It should open up to a list of all your sales for the month. You can use formulas to calculate your total sales for the month, shipping costs, etc. For details on how to set up formulas, see the help documents for your spreadsheet program.

Voila!

Comment below if you have other ideas for fun ways to sort at the data in your new spreadsheets!

This is fabulous! I love it!

I have an itty bitty request, if possible, could you dump the Etsy Order Number with this data as well, this would allow me to automatically link the data with my PayPal CSV and Personal Tracking System. It could be dumped on each line, with each item... :):)

Thank you!! xoxo Sabine

Is the csv download not on Etsy time?
In my Sold Items list I have 3 items sold on Jan. 1. In the csv file these 3 show as Jan. 2.
Looking through the 1st week of January, none of the daily totals match although the monthly total does.

Is the csv info in a different time zone?

March 20, 2008 at 10:17 p.m. loosewirestudio

Excellente!

It's a start!
Next round, maybe include the data that is on the Details page? Then we'd have the Transaction number, which we could relate to Paypal info. Then things would get wild! :)

Thanks bunches and bunches!!! :)

Coming from an accountant. . . This is great data for Etsy sellers to speed up their record keeping processes.

I have now modified my Business Manager Spreadsheet to accept this .csv file. That means it is as simple as a copy and paste to include your sales data in my business tools.

Great, I'd just love a sale!

July 14, 2009 at 3:15 p.m. toybreaker

I would sell my soul (if I had one left) for more than one page of csv at a time - for long-established sellers, this is unfortunately an impossibility. :(

July 14, 2009 at 3:21 p.m. soundimages

This is great - but it still takes me forever to convert to Canadian currency at the time of sale. Any tips in this area?

If you're trying to separate the info into their own columns, here's how to do it in Excel:

In Excel, go to Data, then Get External Data, then select Import Text File.

Select your saved file, then select Delimited, click Next, in the Delimiters section, unclick Tabs and click Comma, under Text qualifier select the comma then finish.

Directions in Apple-speak would be nice. I have done this on my Mac and all I get is zillions of words with commas.

Anyone know how to make this work on a Mac Computer?

July 14, 2009 at 5:55 p.m. den10studio

This is great to know! It really simplifies things. Thanks!

July 14, 2009 at 6:09 p.m. xneoncanvas

Hmm... Not sure if this is working for me the way it is supposed to.
All the tab names and information is sorted into the wrong categories... am i doing anything wrong?

July 14, 2009 at 6:10 p.m. sweetrice

I used this feature when doing my taxes. I was able to import the information into a Microsoft excel sheet and add columns to it. It was wonderful to use!

I use a mac and it worked perfect.
