“Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative.” — Oscar Wilde
This week's edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has frills and lace for any season, forgotten illustrators and long lost art, a modern rustic apartment with beautiful plants aplenty, Peggy Moffitt as 1960s music video ingenue, and one woman's experience renovating a 257 year old house by the sea.
Read on!
Florist Nicolette Camille's light and bright abode makes my heart all-aflutter. Having that many plants in a single apartment is my idea of heaven! I love the jadeite dishes in the kitchen, the plank hardwood floors and the mellow shade of blue throughout. [Via Design*Sponge]
There are so many amazing children's books (and illustrations) floating around that deserve their due. A Journey Around My Skull's Forgotten Illustrators series aims to shed light on the work of these artists. The adorable monkey above is the handiwork of the Danish illustrator Egon Mathiesen, who published Aben Osvald in 1947 (later translated into English as Oswald the Monkey in 1959). Although his work is considered to be a classic in Denmark, it has been out of print for 50 years in the U.S. Learn more about Egon Mathieson's art for children here.
In the words of many flabbergasted folks: Wow, just wow. This video shows off everything that fashion from 1960s evokes: it's kind of psychedelic, definitely unorthodox, and just as much about the culture as the clothing (also, Peggy Moffitt in her signature bowl cut). This is a must see for anyone who loves 1960s fashion. [Via The Look See]
Lover's new collection, White Moon Rising, is so frilly and feminine. I love the different interpretations of the theme for the Northern vs. Southern hemisphere. [Via This is Glamorous]
Katy Elliott's blog is one of the more inspiring things I've seen in a while. If you're in a domestic mood, look no further! Katy's got the best taste when it comes to decorating, affordable art, textiles, furniture, paper, and insight into renovating a 257 year old house by the sea (yay for historic details!). The beautiful shots above are just some of the wallpaper options that Katy is weighing. Reading her blog is like vicariously renovating a beautiful mansion, minus the stress and dirty work. For more info on the wallpaper above, go here.

The cat in the Etsy picks section with the sombrero looks so pissed off.....hilarious! I want one for my cat. (like he'd wear it...lol)

Oh no! I spy pegged jeans! Great picks! Love the monkey with the apple!

That black and white flowered wallpaper in Kate Elliot's house is enchanting. And those monkey illustrations - one of my favourite children's illustrators is Torval Janssen from Denmark, and her fantastic Moomin series.
Great picks, I've got some vintage barware in my shop.

Speaking of fashion - There's a great BBC series called British Style Genius. The episode called High Street is especially good with wonderful 60's and 70's fashion - Ossie Clarke, Quorum, Twiggy. There are some clips on youtube, and you may be able to find it online.

Wow! thanks for the blog shout out! The house is a work in progress. This week i've been thinking about striping a small room but in really tiny stripes like a seersucker? Maybe in pink and khaki? Am I crazy?

So much eye candy, I feel like I need a few more hours to absorb the total radness of this! And I may need to buy a cat so that I can get a sombrero for him.... Genius!

love the 1060's video, there is so much fashion recycled from that era. The whole segments with the feathers was interesting since feathers are the hot item right now. Thanks for another great article. I have some 1960's inspired handbags for anyone who wants to take a peek.

welp, both nicollette camille's place and the wallpaper pics are among my favorites. i've saved them in my inspiration file and look at them often. And katy Elliott's blog I love. Whenever I read her posts or look at her flickr stream I feel like she's the kind of girl I'd be fast friends with. The kind I wished lived next door. Thanks teenangster:)

Nicolette Camille's place is my idea of a dream house, too! Ahh, calming blue.

I'm a *huge* fan of TeenAngster's blogosphere reports, and am massively honored to be included in the Related Items for this one! I always learn something new, and this one is a prime example. I'm a former children's book editor who had never heard of Egon Mathiesen. I love those monkeys.
Everything here, as always, is inspiring and fabulous.

You outdid yourself on this article sweetie! Wow! Love the 1960s fashion video, especially because its Rudi Gernreich, such a fashion genius, an explosion of the 60s popculture, art and fashion. And the 257 year old house is awesome, thats back to 1752, thats 23 years before the Revolutionary War. Glad you're saving such an important part of american history.
