Etsy's Handmade Blog
News from the Craft + Style Blogosphere: March 6, 2008

I've got some pretty things to show you today! So much good stuff abounding around ye olde blogosphere. Here's what I dug up for you this week.

The stylish ladies over at Kingdom of Style contemplated the nature of harem pants this week. (As they state, "Fashion Public Enemy Number One - the harem trouser, the drop-crotch trouser, the hammer pant, whatever pseudonym is appears under the reaction is always the same - horror.") However, I think with the right mixture of accessories and a certain amount of chutzpah, they can be pulled off in a most stylish way. However, the jury is still out! What's your take?

Design For Mankind was pointed out in the comments of last week's edition of News from the Craft + Style Blogosphere, and I was very curious to check it out. This post is all about the work of mcatgarrison, which is all whimsical illustrations, pretty ladies, foxes and ghosts. Design For Mankind digs it, as do I!

Vintage Indie's take on vintage white is like a tiny, beautiful Treasury. Check out her many other vintage collections and blog postings at VintageIndie.typepad.com. Lots of good stuff to dig through!

ArgyleWhale has been thinking a lot about her obsession with Cute Overload and I Can Haz Cheezeburger, so much so that she blogged about it has her newest inspiration. (Along with her bunnies Hodge and Yoshimi, shown above.) Her nom nom cards are the ultimate in cutenessosity. (Yes, I made that word up, but you have to make up words when you talk about Cute Overload!)

And for all of you that are as obsessed with Project Runway as we are around the Etsy office, last night's results came as no surprise. Christian Siriano is a wunderkind, and his clothes are amazing! You can read the follow up interview on his win here. You should also check out Tim Gunn's take on the final three designers on his blog.

What blogs make you run for the computer and drum your fingers while you wait for the page to load? As singer Marc Anthony would say, "Tell me baby girl, cause I need to know!" Leave it in the comments!

My initial reaction is not so much "STOP! Hammer Time." as "STOP HAMMER TIME! STOP IT!!!"

I think those pants look like a sweatshirt worn with your legs in the sleeves. :/

But those bun buns are the ultimate in snorgliciousness.

No! Not hammer pants!

March 6, 2008 at 4:05 p.m. PearsonMaron

I had a pair of those pants in 1987. I thought I was so cool. I would go to the only teen club in town in them with a black leotard and white face makeup and dance to that tones on tail song over and over.
It's so embarrassing.
Please make it stop

I hate the hammer pants! Not flattering. I really liked Jillian's Line! I thought she should have won. Just my opinion.

PearsonMason - I'd be right there with you, wearing my Siouxsie Sioux get up. Not embarrassing!

Also, I liked all of their lines. (On Project Runway) A lot of people like to hate on Jillian, but I don't really see why. I liked Rami's stuff, too, but I just couldn't see past the "one trick pony"-ness of his draping stuff.

wow, the hammer pants. ummmm...can't say i'd ever be caught dead in 'em but i can see how they could be cute. on a 6 foot tall, 98 pound model.

Re: hammer pants...I'm considering a joke involving "Too Legit to Quit", although I don't know if that applies... Best of luck to anyone who decides to go there- you're a braver woman than I! Although, hmm... the pair on lady #4 is looking pretty rocking. Nooo! What am I saying?! Please save me teenangster, before I repeat the mistakes of the past!

And you went to the Marc Anthony. Oh ho!

My favorite blog hand down is

I knew someone who had yellow plaid hammer pants. *shudder*

If you like snide humour with your cute things, I recommend "Cute with Chris":
http://www.cutewithchris.com/

He does a video blog every Monday with a "Cutedown" competition and asks readers to vote on various cute animal photos that people have sent in.
http://www.cutewithchris.com/the_late...

He also recites song lyrics from time to time.

And he's Canadian, so he's awesome.

One of my blog-reading mainstays is Rare Bird Finds: rarebirdfinds.typepad.com

They regularly feature etsy items and other indie designers.

And guess what? I'm their featured editor for today! I got to pick 5 items -- and one of them is from our very own etsian molecularmuse.

If you want to be an editor for a day, they may still be looking:

Dang, hammer pants are back in! I spotted my first pair 'in the wild' today (nice, long, drapey black ones) and thought how good they looked with boots.

March 11, 2008 at 3:26 p.m. PamperingBeki

Ugh, the pants!!!
