“The moment you think you understand a great work of art, it's dead for you.” - Oscar Wilde
This week's edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has lots of detail. There's a seemingly abandoned country house, modular designs for the home, vintage hat inspiration, nature as sculpture, rhubarb compote in all its deliciousness, and a very sinister putting green.
Read on!
I just learned about Cafiero Select this week, and it seems to have everything: a store, an inspirational website, and a house. This country mansion makes me want to pack my bags and head for the hills. I also love the intentional sparsity in the decor. (You know I love abandoned buildings!) [Via Tell You (Today)]
Jón Björnsson's stark design sensibility is so modular. Love his collection. [Via Design Milk]

Divine hat inspiration, come to me! I'm (still) looking for my summer hat, and this collection of vintage images certainly provides the incentive to find it. [Via Come Spy With Me]
This rhubarb compote looks good enough to frame and hang on the wall. (And subsequently lick off the wall — it really looks that good.) Check out Pia Jane Bijkerk's blog for the recipe.
The nature-inspired sculpture of Mari Andrews scratches my itch. These pieces would be equally at home in the forest or a gallery. [Via Little Paper Planes]
I never thought that golf could seem sinister; that is, until I saw the photography of J Bennett Fitts. He manages to inject any boring landscape with depth and character.

I agree with fairiesnest...what lovely nature sculptures. I also love nature installations...such as those of Andy Goldsworthy. Very evocative....

Amazing pics, especially the country house...
You absolutely must look at the work of Jeffrey Stockbridge, a Philadelphia photographer whose work I stumbled upon in a coffee shop a few years ago. Large format pics of abandoned West Philadelphia homes and other locations, often exhibited alongside vitrines of objects discovered at the site. AMAZING!

I almost got mugged by a (maybe homeless) man with a bb gun in an abandoned house i was taking photos in about 10 years ago. It hasn't stopped me, and i still venture into any abandoned dwelling, but It scared the #$%& out of me!

I gush over this feature most every week but I am positively salivating over that Greek Revival house - my favorite architectural style and dream home. I have a similar photo taped to the wall right above my computer. It's my focal point & ideal, though the local Greek Revival isn't quite as spectacular as the one featured. Upstate New York?
