"Boredom is like a pitiless zooming in on the epidermis of time. Every instant is dilated and magnified like the pores of the face." — Charlotte Whitton
This week's edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has fly looks from the Tim Burton canon, Navajo rugs to blow your mind (did you know they could get better?), a soft and modern monochromatic pad and cold weather clothing inspiration (must get a hat, stat).
Join me, won't you?
My fascination with Navajo rugs has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks, and apparently Andy Beach of Reference Library has been feeling the same vibe. The brilliant rugs above are examples of Navajo pictorial weaving. (I love the bison and eagle!) [Via design*sponge]
Um, YES! This fashion homage to Tim Burton's costume oeuvre brings back fond memories of my Edward Scissorhands costume of yesteryear. I think I might go as Lydia this year...or maybe just a general Burton-inspired costume. This is fashion at its most inspired (for me, at least!). [Via Musie]
Oh, to live in a beautifully modern, monochromatic manse such as this! This Melbourne dream house is currently for sale, but I'm sure it won't be for long — not with an interior like this to sell it. I really love the nubby textural interplay between the t-shirt rugs (ahem, you can get your own on Etsy!) and the neutral color scheme and simple designs. (And who can resist an antique wrought iron bed?) [Via Desire to Inspire]
Fall officially got serious in New York this week. These Garance Doré shots are all the impetus I need to a. get a big hat, b. get some ankle boots, c. throw everything in my closet on the floor for a thorough survey, d. commence weeping. Garance, you pain me! (The second photo especially. I want that look now!)

there is something so calming about neutrals. I love the Melbourne dream house. aahh... simply lovely. Mind altering in a slow, easy, uncomplicated fashion.

I love all of this, but especially the Tim Burton-inspired fashion up there. Sigh. Love it.

I love that as my eye travels down those Tim Burton models, the character becomes increasingly complex (like the platforms on that mummy) — delightful.

Your homage to Tim Burton looks like it got crossed with some Georgia O'Keefe paintings ;)
Here is a cool dress that kinda reminds me of those:

ahhhh sigh --- that melbourn house is incredibly restful, engaging, excitingly calm, and perfectly minimalist but with an earthy edge-- and it would look fantastic with one of those mod navajo rugs hanging out on a wall...
what? yes?-- the owner wants to donate the house to me? oh sure-- fine ...yes.. that would be fine.... yeah ..great...
super as always alison!!!

FAB. U. LOUS! I *love* the Tim Burton!! (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas - and The Corpse Bride...) Loving the mummy ... like Jack the Pumpkin King actually dressed up for Halloween!
The neutral home for sale in Melbourne is sooo lovely.
And I'm with you on look number 2 ... I'm coveting that big, chunky, textural sweater coat!! (and the cropped pants and ankle boots - too cute.)
ozmaofodds
wow-we-wow-wow-wow!!!!! Adore anything Tim Burton and can't wait for Alice in Wonderland! Thank you!
ToastyKnits
Umm, so can I live in that house please? Although, I've been watching LOST this week which isn't making me excited to go anywhere near Australia (or at least fly out of Australia)
revelry
Oh how I want that house. And I also want that dresser in it, too with all those neat little drawers! Great picks, teen angster.
erstwhilevintage
I grew up in northern Arizona and get a little woosey over Navajo rugs and saddle blankets.... sigh..... so nice to see them here!
recycledwares
the tim burton fashions are just great!! enjoyed every minute.
breadandroses2
Breathtaking abode. Who needs color with architectural detail like that? Yes, I too will graciously accept donation of that house. Adore the shawl collar sweater coat in 2nd photo. Already have the long braid, do need a new coat.
dollybirddesign

wristielove
thx for the fashion fix teen angster. (throwing the tim burton inspiration in was awesome!)
YellowViolet
That Melbourne home is impeccable. I live like that but only in my dreams. Reality is more like an episode of Clean House! Love the Tim Burton stuff too.
redyellowandblueink
Yep I'm a sucker for the Tim Burton look.
Dare I say how much I LOVE the red, yellow and blue mobile in the all white room-awesome! that's what its all about.
patspottery
The fashion photos are wonderful, but the modals look anorexic. I would ask etsy to not glorify an image that causes little girls to starve themselves.
CavemanPottery
Cool pictures. I really enjoyed reading this "article". The pictures of that house made me want to go home and paint everything white!
paramountvintage
i love the textiles! simply amazing!
and white interiors are always chic and timeless.
and street style blogs are the best! i even recognize a few familiar faces.
GREAT ARTICLE
mazedasastoat
I noticed how skinny the models looked as well.
And also, it MAY be possible to live in an all white house with just a single cat, but what about "normal" folks with several cats, dogs & optional kids? No thanks, mud-clour everywhere is much more practical! :-D
Love the Navajo rugs though...
odiliafu
Love Tim Burton inspired photography and the Fall fashion. Awesome!!
etincellestudio
So funny to hear about Garance Dore here on Etsy!!!! HAs she got that famous all around the world? she is just so talented and friendly :)
reiddamnit
That house is absolutely terrific! ps check out this site http://www.onoff.tv I found it via www.parkandcube.com blog. onoff is the UK’s original, independent fashion showcase during London Fashion Week. Some spectacular designers all fresh and all doing something different. Look out for the absolutely siiiiick gold pants.
PipocaHandmade
Such an inspired post! Love the Burtonesque photo shoot and ghostly australian interior feature!

DEFINITELY VISIT ARIZONA'S NAVAJO NATION
Love the tribute to Navajo Nation and the American Southwest. Rainbow Bridge, as shown near top, that and its area have some of the most red rocks beautiful and places on earth.
You can stay on the UTah-Arizona border in a small town called Page full of lots of cute kitschy lodges. There's also a great swimming hole there - Lake Powell and although there's a hotel at it, don't let it deter you because the lake is a state park and you're allowed to go to the beach there whether you stay at the hotel or not. There's a cute place I stayed at in town called Bashful Bobs and it was near all the Navajo galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and ticket places for Antelope Canyon. There's also a place farther out in the desert called Paria's where you might be able to sleep in a teepee, and they have offered hikes, and I believe they may have music 1 night a week with gooood bbq.
There's another town south of Page (don't remember the name but it's the only town for miles so everyone knows it) that I believe once a week has an outdoors Native American market. Go even farther south and there's lots of amazing Navajo reservation sights.
Or go north to Utah (only about an hour and half away...it's near Bryce Canyon. Kanab, UT (as in the Kanab Cowboys t-shirt worn by Napoleon Dynamite) it's a fun place to stay and at the end of August they have a big western fest with rodeos and crafts. Really cool.
Definitely visit the American West - Love New Mexico too.
