We’d had this Handmade Wedding series planned for a while, I swear. And then, lucky for me, I got engaged. I'm not such a bridezilla as to monopolize the Storque for my personal use, but I must say, I will be taking this Storque series very, very seriously! We are going to bring you useful info on how to bring handmade elements to your wedding, whether it’s by sharing ideas for making things or by highlighting some great handmade and vintage items on Etsy. We hope to show you some of the latest and freshest ideas for weddings. Etsians, after all, are a direct source of raw creativity!
We’ve just relaunched Alchemy, a service which allows buyers to request custom orders. Interested sellers bid on the job, allowing you to match yourself with the perfect artist for your needs. Theoretically, you could get just about anything made. In this series, we’ll be exploring how custom orders can come into play for weddings. Seems to me that weddings are very special occasions where folks want to express something of themselves to their family and friends; custom orders give both the artist and the newly-weds-to-be a chance to bring their visions to the table. And more pragmatically, there’s a lot for buyers to learn before jumping into getting a ring made, a gown modified, or invitations produced, so we’ll be sharing tips from people who’ve gone through the process!
The series will pull together a collection of real stories from people who’ve recently had weddings, as well as guest bloggers from likes of design*sponge to Cupcake blog (see full list here), and also useful posts from sellers who specialize in making incredible pieces for weddings. There’ll be tons of tips and highlights of unique handmade lovey dovey goodness. Keep your eye on the related items at the bottom of each post, because we’ll be pointing out some great stuff.
Topics we’ll cover:
Concepting & Planning
Registry alternatives & gifts
Invitations
Rings & jewelry

Hair accessories & veils

What comes to my mind when I think about the Wedding Biz? Stressing over tons of details for buying expensive junk that I simply don’t need and that my guests aren’t going to remember! But weddings don’t have to be out of the box. Your wedding doesn’t have to be what the wedding industry tells you it should be and it doesn’t have to be super expensive either. True, I can’t deny it, planning a wedding is a huge production, but you can make things yourself or put your dollars straight into artists’ hands and have a whole lot more of a personal experience.
If you're engaged or recently hitched, give a shout-out in the comments below!
And lastly, for those of you who don’t believe in marriage or aren’t about to get married…I can hear your groans already and I apologize in advance! The Storque will have other content for your enjoyment and we won’t jam the oh-look-at-me-I'm-a-bride stuff down your throats! But seriously, you appreciate handmade goods (I know you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this), and you know someone who is getting married (don’t we all, really?), so think of this as research for your friend or family member — they’ll thank you for it!
