Etsy in Action: Upcoming Events July 17 - July 23, 2008
Summer is in full swing. Why not get out and see what your fellow art and craft lovers are up to? Here are a few of our picks. Friday, July 17th-20th The Baltimore Etsy Team will be representing Etsy and distributing their new Team postcards at Artscape, the largest free public arts festival in the country. Artscape features 150+ artists, fashion designers and craftspeople. Take a day to check out the visual art exhibits, outdoor sculpture, art cars, photography and incredible live concerts on four outdoor stages, a full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, fashion, film, experimental music and performances by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. 
Saturday, July 19th, 6-10pm If you haven't heard, first-time director Faythe Levine is setting out to document this here indie craft movement in her upcoming film Handmade Nation. She's been independently funding Handmade Nation with the help of credit cards, community fundraising and private donations and now to get it done she needs all hands on deck! If you're in the Los Angeles area, stop by Poketo and give a hand. Not only will you help out this great cause, but you could walk away with great artwork by Jill Bliss, Kate Bingamun Burt aka kateconsumption, Lisa Congdon, and many more! - "Connect/(Dis) Connect" New York, NY
The American Craft Council and Etsy present the second Summer in the City Salon Series, with Chanel Kennebrew, aka junkprints in conversation with jeweler Bruce Metcalf as they "explore the complicated relationships among the broad spectrum of craft makers today." In other words, we're talking old school/new school craft and the use of technology to promote and sell. A relevant topic for all Etsy sellers and anyone with an interest in these issues. It's happening in person at the ACC library in New York, NY, AND live in the Virtual Labs. Don't miss it! While you're at it, mark your calendars now for the next and final ACC Salon Series' event: - Thursday, September 18, 6-7pm, The Politics of Craft: KnitKnit's Sabrina Gschwandtner, Knitting Nation's Liz Collins and New York Times's columnist, Rob Walker, weigh in on craft's "role in addressing issues of urgency in our world today."
