How-To Month: Week 2
Article Header Image

Week 1 of How-To Month just flew by, didn't it?  We had fun teaching you live in the Virtual Labs and want to see your enthusiastic spinning avatars back in there.  We hoped you learned a few new techniques, or just became more familiar with a craft you've loved from afar.   If you missed it, don't fret!  We still have 3 weeks to go!  If you haven't visited the Virtual Labs before, check out this FAQ about how they work (or just come on by and we'll show you the ropes, they are very user-friendly and fun!)

Monday July 7th - 5pm to 8pm - Craft Night Tutorial: Origami in the Treehouse.

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • That's it!

Tuesday July 8th - 7pm - Applique with Anda

Supplies Needed:

  • Fabric
  • Fabric scissors
  • Fusible web aka Wunder-Under
  • An iron
  • Ironing board
  • A sewing machine (or needle and thread, if you don't have access to one)
  • Pencil & paper
  • Straight pins

Wednesday July 9th - 5pm - Beaded Earrings with MaryMary

Supplies Needed:

  • A pair of wire cutters
  • A pair of round nosed pliers
  • Various beads/combinations of beads of your choice
  • Head pins color of your choice
  • Earring wires, shapes and colors of your choice

Can't make it to this How-To?  Check out this vintage blogpost by MaryMary!

Thursday July 10th - 5pm - Screenprinting with Matt

This isn't a technique you can follow along and do with us at the same time, so just come by and watch! Bring a pen a paper to take notes!

Extra Credit:  Watch this excellent video we made to help you get started screenprinting.

Friday July 11th - 11am - Metal Etching with Daniellexo

Supplies Needed:

  • Brass or Copper sheet or flat stampings
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Safety Goggles
  • Apron
  • Ferric Chloride (you can also get this at Radio Shack)
  • Baking Soda
  • Plastic container with lid
  • Flat piece of Styrofoam
  • Double sided tape
  • Clear packaging tape
  • Nail Polish
  • Acetone (can get this at the drug store)
  • 3M scrub pad (those green scrubby pads for scrubbing pots)
  • Iron
  • Some type of Resist: contact paper, puffy paint, nail polish, paint pen, spray paint, PNP blue paper and a laser printer, StazOn Ink
This also isn't really a technique you can do with us at the same time, but I've listed the supplies so you can have them handy later!

Here are some artists that are already rockin' these techniques.  Show them some love!
