OK, I’m almost done lecturing on what you should buy for your wife or girlfriend. Don’t worry, I’ll think of something else to lecture about. I have a record of quality. But in the meantime let’s talk about themes.

Stick to the Theme!

The easiest way to lower your cash outlay and still impress is to raise the Aww, this is so thoughtful quotient. And the easiest way to do that is pull use gifts that connect to something special in your past — that’s the best theme. For me, I like to relive parts of our trips in the gifts I give:

Our honeymoon was in Italy, and our toddler daughter always destroys my wife’s wallets, so this Tuscan leather wallet fits the theme and fills a need.

One of our favorite days ever was exploring Montmatre, which this photo perfectly captures.

And this Chimney Sweep Necklace fits all of the criteria: theme (trip to London), jewelry (rule #1, always buy jewelry) and very affordable.
