It seems a bit presumptuous to assume that sellers will automatically meet these needs based on this official Etsy announcement in the Storque. Not all sellers will be able to accomodate this request.

Great idea to post this for the shoppers.

no. 1 - there isn't a lot on Etsy to imply at first sight that it is a US-based company (mentioning that all prices are in USD would address partly) so a new buyer stumbling across this article could be misled

no. 2 - this article really is aimed primarily at the US market - nothing wrong with that but, hey! Etsy touts itself as an international venue for online selling. i've found that the whole marketing for christmas schedule has been laid out for domestic sales within the US with no thought to international sellers selling to the US, internationally or their own countries/regions - disappointing. this is etsy's thrid christmas

two more useful notes:
1. Many people travel at this time of year. Be sure to check the seller's announcement and profile for any dates they may be out of town and unable to ship. Unfortunately those notes can't be seen from an item listing page.
2. Buyers may want to have gifts shipped directly to a recipient, but some sellers will only ship to the confirmed paypal address of the buyer. Be sure to check the shop policy before buying, and if the item is being shipped directly to the recipient, say that in your "notes to seller" so that the seller will avoid putting a receipt or invoice in the package.

but for the international buyers and sellers to feel included you could also have listed the best ways to search and find local sellers, and sellers within your own country .

It is up to sellers to post their shipping info in their shops, and I hope we make that clear in this article.

I have to agree with some of the other international buyers. It's a shame that Etsy remains a US-centric site when there are so many other international sellers who bring business to Etsy. My own shop announcement is four times longer than it usually is so that I can "tack on" shipping cutoff dates. And I admit that as an American I'm feeling just a little bit more isolated from a site based in my own home country just because I don't currently live in it, especially since I endeavor to participate as much as I can at this site and the Storque itself.

Thanks for taking us into consideration in your Storque content, and not just the content we contribute ourselves.

As a potential seller I have spent weeks perusing the listings trying to do some market research and whathaveyou. I have run into some hesitation as I am in Canada and am wondering about all of the "international" bits. I tend to think that if you are going to market yourself as an international site, (in truth, that is one of the biggest marketing tools that etsy uses,) you could make a bit more of an effort to be truly global. In this day and age, one sees the www. as being global and not just US based, so if you are going to brand yourselves as a world marketing tool, your site content should reflect that. Especially as since your USPS rates and times have changed it is sometimes easier to buy from the UK and Australia.

Other than that, great site so far!!!

What the other international sellers say is true! I love the fact that Etsy is international, it adds a lot to its interest and beauty; please, do take us a little more into account. :) Yesterday was the last day I could guarantee items to arrive overseas on time.

As a Canadian (born in the U.K.) now living and working in the U.S. I can completely understand how international buyers and sellers may feel a bit left out. I def. apologize for that!

Most of the sales on Etsy are U.S. based so that is one reason why this article focuses on U.S. shipping. Another reason is that I personally *know* about the USPS system and how reliable they are during the holidays. I definitely am not an expert in other countries systems so I wouldn't want to spread misinformation. And if I included every other country this article would be 20 pages long.

Just know, as a Canadian, I hear ya. I actually have a HUGE Canadian flag over my desk ;)

Next year we are really going to be looking at International markets and making the site easier in ways for international shoppers and sellers.

"Don't overlook International sellers! Look into their profile or shop announcement or contact them to see how long it would take to get an item to you. Sometimes it's just as fast as the shipping time within the U.S. "

I just want to let everyone know that US domestic first class is taking a week to 10 days! Shipping by Monday the 17th for Christmas delivery might...MIGHT...get it there in time...but I wouldn't "guarantee" beyond that

international shipping deadline was Dec 11th

First Class cut-off was December 15th according to the USPS and Priority is December 20th. First Class and Priority Mail are not guaranteed.
