Last week, for the heck of it, I thought I'd search for the top three U.S. presidential candidates on Etsy, and see what sort of items our crafter-politicos are coming up with. Answer: all sorts of amazing things. From the usual pins, t-shirts, and posters (complete with clever sayings and great artwork, something *not* so usual in the political merch arena), to jewelry, toys, and voodoo dolls. (!)

But the real story ended up being Barack Obama, and how he's got more than twice the number of items stumping for him than all the other candidates combined. The senator from Illinois has a wide margin, with 395 items tagged with Obama listed at the time of this writing.

Hillary Clinton's a distant second, with 112 items. Unfortunately for Hill, some of the items seem to be, ah, not so supportive (exhibit A: Hillary pinata head). But, as they say, all press is good press, right?

At 27 items, John McCain has a long way to go if he wants to be competitive in this race. Luckily for him, his presidential chances don't hinge on the number of crafts he's currently inspiring. Only time will tell if he moves up once the Democratic primaries are over and the national race begins.
