Etsy Finds: Dachshund Combat

It's pet week here at the Storque! Keep tabs on the Etsy Pets featured column for all the cute pet stuff you can handle. Pets, ahoy!

With all possible deference to the great Mr. Attenborough, I contend that nature documentary of the present day is disproportionately fixated on megafauna. What wonder and drama there is to behold in the world of smaller creatures, and how tragic it is that we overlook it! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Caitlin Keegan's Dachshund Combat.

This is a scene familiar to Tompkins Square naturalists like myself. The two contestants eye one another from opposite ends of the pitch and, abruptly and simultaneously, they boldly wave in the wind their heels and meet in a chaotic embrace at center field. A confusion of stubby limbs and tails and teeth turns and turns in a widening gyre. A snarl sounds, a growl is heard in reply, a muffled bark erupts. The battle disbands as rapidly as it was joined and the jousters return, undaunted, to their corners as the cycle begins anew.

Little is ever settled definitively in these bouts. As dusk approaches the pugilists retire to their respective dens for lazy naps, pride unblemished by the events of the afternoon.

Great Etsy Find!!

I am the proud mother of a 9 year old doxie named Zoe. She is a maker of mischief and I love her dearly. I admit, I adore this stubborn & strong-willed breed. If one could make money by simply loving dachshunds, I would be a multi trillionare.

Thanks for featuring my print in your related items - that is Zoe, by the way...

I love Dachshund's. I am still tossing around the idea of getting one of my very own!

Sasha the Dachshund here. Yes, we would make good stars of a nature dogumentary, but we have other things besides the occasional tiff with siblings. We have the doxie 500- where we zoom around in circles at a moments notice and stop just as suddenly as we start. We have the illusive Bobo hunts and de-stuffings, and the love stories like that of me and my long distance future husband Oscar the wiener man of my dreams. There is so much to us Doxies that could make a miniseries easily. Sincerely, Sassy Sasha.
