Etsy Finds: Up Cloche and Personal

Cloches have been one of my personal faves for a long time. I've haphazardly collected quite a few (second hand) in recent years, only to find them musty and usually too small for my oversize head. As a result, I never actually wear any of the hats I accumulate: instead, they sit prettily on a shelf, doing a whole lot of nothin'.

However, when I came upon this gorgeous, vintage inspired cloche by apothecary504, I knew I had found the cloche of my dreams. This one won't be sitting on any shelf! Once I get my hands on this baby, you'll have to count me as a card-carrying member of the Red Hat Society

What kind of vintage fashion do you like? What kind of fashion would you like to see on Etsy? Post it in the comments!

I am also a lover of cloches. My grandmother who is 93 and living on her own saved many of her cloches and dresses from the 1920s. Here are a few of my favorite cloche sites on etsy:

I had never been a great lover of hats. Then I had cancer, chemo and baldness........in the winter yet. Hate wigs. Ever try to keep a wig in place on a bald head? Nothing to pin them to so unless you glue a wig on it slides! Bald heads get cold. I learned to love hats! I went back to some Medieval hat patterns I had and made everyday mob hats and fancy velour and beaded hats, knit hats, crocheted hats.....well, you get the picture. I have hair now, but I still wear hats! I love to look at all the hats on Etsy. It keeps me inspired.

Your story reminds me of a great find in my gramma's basement. It was a chocolate brown crocheted hat from probably the 1960's... I quickly snatched it up and have been wearing it for years now. It has been the inspiration for many of that hats I now make and sell on etsy!!!
I love it because its really big and loose and you can wear it in so many different ways.
I only wish I would have grabbed the matching pair of mitts... where was my head?!

I am not a hat wearer; I feel self-conscious if I wear a hat.
But I love vintage hats and have a large collection that I look at.
I wish head wear was still mandatory in society!

Vintage fashions? I'm voracious and vociferous about the topic. Hats? Definitely. Thanks for the article!

Ooooo! Guerillagrannys hats remind me of this awesome hat I had in high school (yea Ashmead...lol..in the 60's). I LOVED that hat!! I wore it with this HUGEEEEEEE warm old army type jacket that had been my fathers. One day the jacket mysteriously disappeared (my moms sentimental side being overridden by "my daughter looks like a bum"...I'm guessing the hat went with it.

GGRRRR!!!!!

Cloches are so lovely, I wish they could fit over big hair though.

I love the red cloche, so cute & chic. I'm so glad to see this about hats, it's great! It gives me a feel of what's going on outside the studio!
While I focus on making mostly large brimmed hats in the summer, I really should make more cloches, hmmm. That gives me an idea :)

Another cute shop for cloches is www.boringsidney.etsy.com
