Handmade Weddings: Don't Forget the Menfolk!
Article Header Image

Angel Brave aka 80Lady is a wedding and event coordinator (read more here). We initially found her popping up on the WeddingBee, adding useful suggestions and sharing her great ideas for Etsy items. We invited her to show us some of her favorite finds for men's accessories on Etsy, some of which could be for the big day and some for groomsman gifts or registry ideas.

I love searching Etsy. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Seriously, just pop in whatever word you like into the search bar and watch the great finds come to you. One of the first searches I do almost daily is for wedding items. I like to claim it’s for research. I’m a wedding coordinator and keeping up with innovations in the wedding world is important. Are you buying that? Me neither. The truth is that I simply love to see what handmade goodies Etsy sellers are displaying.

There are items on here that I would have never thought of, and that’s one of the draws of Etsy. And while keeping up with innovations in the wedding world is important to me, that doesn’t mean I have to glue my nose in a wedding magazine or follow what someone else says the trends should be. If a couple is looking for something different, Etsy is one of the web sites I turn to. Dramatic jewelry? Check! Alternative ring pillow? Check! Interesting cufflinks? Check and double check. The options seem endless. Then there are the sellers themselves. Not only are there great finds, but you get to interact with the people who hand make your wedding. It’s the personal touch that many couples feel pressured to give themselves, busy brides and grooms who feel they have to buy what’s out there or DIY everything in order to have the wedding they want. But Etsy provides a great third option. You can have a handmade wedding, but you don’t have to make everything yourself. Timelines rejoice!

Recently I’ve been focusing on one particular aspect of the wedding: the guys. This has been a little trickier search than I expected. Some solid key words didn’t bring up as much as I thought. Etsy overfloweth with items for women, but let's not forget the men! Hmmm…I think this requires some Etsy action!

So I’m placing the call to sellers! Let’s get some great handmade wedding stuff out there for guys! And to tide you over until then, check out the related items below for some of the goodies I did find. Here are some search terms for men's items that a wedding coordinator like myself would use on the hunt; some are wedding/formal specific and some could be used for more general gifts:

Cufflinks

Money Clips

Bags and wallets

Grooming (Men subcategory in Bath and Beauty)

Necktie

Tie tack

Rings

Jackets (There aren't many, as of writing this! Sellers, come on and fill the niche!) & Vintage jackets

Grooms, comment below with what you're looking for! Sellers, what do you offer for grooms and groomsmen?

Great Idea -- but your list above is missing Belts!! Men wear belts -- i know this for a fact, as i make belts and sell more of those to men than anything else i make!!

my husband pointed out whe i was first starting up, that i had nothing for men. my range of cufflinks is a direct result of his suggestion and they've been selling well (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=...)

I recently got an enquiry for a custom set for 6 groomsmen and that would be fun to do!

For our wedding, I bought my husband the greatest set of English sixpence cufflinks from thecoinjeweler's Etsy shop. I did some research on the sixpence tradition and told the story to everyone at the rehearsal dinner. Everyone thought it was really neat, and my husband loved the cufflinks. MUCH better than the cufflinks that came with the tuxedo, too :)
