Etsy's Handmade Blog
Costume Ideas

Are you having a hard time figuring out what to be for Halloween? You could always go with Buttonhead's tattoo idea above! (Speaking of temporary tattoos, click here to see a selection.)

Check out these items from Etsy sellers. You can collaborate with a talented Etsy artist if you're not up for making your own costume this year.

RunzwithScissors reconstructs vinage slips and dresses, and she will do a custom costume for you. runzwithscizzorsZombiedresspurple.jpg
This purple number is perfect for a ghoulish zombie prom queen! Or a Dirty Dancing zombie, for that matter. Heck, you can be pretty much any kind of zombie, as was pointed out in this post.

made this beautiful shimmery, rust-colored frock as a custom order. The occasion? No, not a swanky dinner party or evening at the opera, but a Halloween party, my friends!  Who was the masquerader supposed to be? Zuul aka the Gatekeeper — Sigourney Weaver's character in Ghostbusters. Ah, such a classic film.

Halloween is really just an excuse to buy this  art dress by Toolgrrl from her "Dream Anatomy" series. This amazing dress truly is an exquisite piece of wearable art. Check out her Scapular dress, made from vintage slips.

The gowns are especially amazing! Very inspiring.
I'll probably be helping my sister dress her dogs for Halloween. I wonder if we can still get candy for that?

I do feel you need to mention this amazing dress by smarmyclothes...one of the most original things I've seen...it's got a bleached skeleton on it...so it looks like your skeleton while wearing the dress. Stunning!

Really cool crafty picks above. I used to sew my own costumes as a kid (angel, tomato) so I can imagine the all the hours put into creating them.
For anyone interested, I have some dresses that would make great costumes for anything from Marie Antoinette to Ophelia to a Jane Austen/Shakespearian character- great worn alone or with wigs, veils, etc. I also have a bandana in gothic orange with medieval-looking crosses and I'm listing more this week. Dresses & bandana at:

I always hated dressing up! And now that I make fake beards and mustaches, I use every excuse to wear them. Life is funny.

I love the Golden Rose Silk Ballgown! I also applaud any pet costumes, as long as the pet is willing. I want to make a pirate costume for my little black cat. Any ideas out there?

The wings on the batgirl costume- Amazing! Reminds me of when my mother once made me a butterfly costume when I was five years old. Memories....
