Etsy Finds Decor: A Green Pioneer Buys the Farm

Christine

This weekend's Get the Look: Decor is inspired by one woman's experience restoring a nineteenth century barn in Upstate New York and transforming it into a beautiful place to call home. Etsy seller Maya of designsmayamade documented her mother's barn-to-home restoration process on her blog maya*made.

Despite the fact that the 1888 barn had no electricity, heat, running water, or a foundation, Maya's mother was excited about the barn's potential. "My mother, being the brave, daring pioneer that she is, knew this was home. Her vision was to convert the barn into a live/work art studio and make it as green as her budget would allow... recycle, repurpose, reinvent was our guiding motto." The 1000 square foot space includes a perfect blend of rustic farmhouse treasures along side a few unexpected modern touches.

For more photos of the barnyard restoration, visit maya*made and check out the four part series documenting the home's transformation.  If you are interested in incorporating a touch of rustic farmhouse style to your own home decor, check out the Etsy Finds below for inspiration.

Great article! But you know, the "Hope Art" piece by "oabby81" is an exact copy of the work of artist Rebecca Puig of Sugarboo Designs.

Found here:http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/da155/index.cfm

Not very sporting, if you ask me....

June 1, 2009 at 2:01 p.m. ThePlayfulNeedle

. . .about that piece called 'Hope Art' in the Related Items:

http://www.potterybarnkids.com/produc...

Since it doesn't seem that shop belongs to Rebecca Puig of Sugarboo Designs, this is a copy of her work. Not cool to feature a rip-off, Etsy. Aren't we better than that?

June 1, 2009 at 2:15 p.m. AREjewellery

oh my god PlayfulNeedle! that is not good! etsy??

June 1, 2009 at 2:19 p.m. mbwilkes

I am glad that someone else caught it(re: "hope art" by copiest oabby81)...I feel badly for the poor person that purchased it from that seller. AND I feel really badly for the original artist, who deserves full credit and respect for her original idea and art!

The barn is beautiful and so are the picks! I live in a converted log cabin, it's a good life :)

June 3, 2009 at 9:36 p.m. dbvictoria

We knew a couple who were renovating a similar structure in Mississippi a decade ago. It's a labor of love, for certain, but it's wonderful to see these old structures being reworked into something incredible.

Thank you for mentioning my parasol - to be considered fit to be included in such a grand project is a high compliment indeed!

June 7, 2009 at 1:52 p.m. RomanceCatsAndWhimsy
