This weekend's Get the Look: Decor is inspired by one woman's experience restoring a nineteenth century barn in Upstate New York and transforming it into a beautiful place to call home. Etsy seller Maya of designsmayamade documented her mother's barn-to-home restoration process on her blog maya*made.
Despite the fact that the 1888 barn had no electricity, heat, running water, or a foundation, Maya's mother was excited about the barn's potential. "My mother, being the brave, daring pioneer that she is, knew this was home. Her vision was to convert the barn into a live/work art studio and make it as green as her budget would allow... recycle, repurpose, reinvent was our guiding motto." The 1000 square foot space includes a perfect blend of rustic farmhouse treasures along side a few unexpected modern touches.
For more photos of the barnyard restoration, visit maya*made and check out the four part series documenting the home's transformation. If you are interested in incorporating a touch of rustic farmhouse style to your own home decor, check out the Etsy Finds below for inspiration.

Love the pieces of furniture, but can`t afford them and I guess it would be also complicated to ship them to Switzerland.. sometimes it`s to sad not living in the America...

The birdcage silhouette is genius! My parents have a similar style and built a cord wood log home by hand. It was a huge project -- but they did it!

Christine,
My mother and I really appreciated your beautiful article about a place that means everything to us. We had so much fun scrolling through your amazing finds and appreciated each one... any of them would be so at home in the barn. Your attention to every detail was stunning. You even found the picnic basket!!! A big thanks for all of these wonderful and enthusiastic comments, too. Wish we could have you all over for a picnic in the barn meadow!
monkeyandsquirrel

pogoshop
Great story! I love what Maya and her mom are doing. Here in Pogo Forest, we're converting a barn into a cabin right now. So this is definitely inspirational. I love all the re-purposed decorating ideas and vintage finds.
artdecadence
All gorgeous items and so interesting to read about the conversion!
ericawalker

TianaCHE
Such lovely finds! Love comfort garden)And wonderful article as well!
BluCille
My mother in law has plenty of vintage trunks, lamps, furniture, etc. She uses all of it to decorate her home. It's also nice to know that an appreciation for these items keeps them from taking up space in a landfill.
AustinModern
I was thinking of putting hairpin legs on one of our steamer trunks to make a coffee table for the store, now we'll definitely do it!
peekabooproductions
This was such a great article! I can't wait to see her blog! :) It's wonderful to see Upstate NY featured! Thanks so much! Such charming items, too! That chenille bed cover reminds me of the one my Grandma had...
poppyswickedgarden
GREAT ARticle! I just spent all weekend at our next town overs BIG Pickup taking others trash to upcycle into incredible stuff for our Old Victorian house!
rowenamurillo
How wonderful Maya! You know the barn was what drew me to your blog in the first place. I love to see it featured like this, and these are such great suggestions for getting the look.
mbwilkes
Great article! But you know, the "Hope Art" piece by "oabby81" is an exact copy of the work of artist Rebecca Puig of Sugarboo Designs.
Found here:http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/da155/index.cfm
Not very sporting, if you ask me....
peaseblossomstudio
Awesome! I could so do this--someday I will. In interior design school, I had to draft a complete set of plans for converting a barn into a house, so I'm all ready! :-D
ThePlayfulNeedle
. . .about that piece called 'Hope Art' in the Related Items:
http://www.potterybarnkids.com/produc...
Since it doesn't seem that shop belongs to Rebecca Puig of Sugarboo Designs, this is a copy of her work. Not cool to feature a rip-off, Etsy. Aren't we better than that?
mbwilkes
I am glad that someone else caught it(re: "hope art" by copiest oabby81)...I feel badly for the poor person that purchased it from that seller. AND I feel really badly for the original artist, who deserves full credit and respect for her original idea and art!
happydayvintage
Love it!! Thank you so much for including our vintage rope handled suitcase!
SkinnySwallow
Darling and so organic.... right up my back country alley!
Loves the feature!
PiacereMioPaperie
What a great blog Maya has created! I am definitely addicted. How inspirational to read about her mom's dream that became a reality! It goes to show how exquisite ideas put into gear with some honest-to-goodness dedication can really pay off! Congratulations!
elisasherejewelry
The barn is beautiful and so are the picks! I live in a converted log cabin, it's a good life :)
dbvictoria
We knew a couple who were renovating a similar structure in Mississippi a decade ago. It's a labor of love, for certain, but it's wonderful to see these old structures being reworked into something incredible.
Thank you for mentioning my parasol - to be considered fit to be included in such a grand project is a high compliment indeed!
RomanceCatsAndWhimsy
GREAT pics -- I really enjoyed this one. Wow -- everything you could want is on Etsy!! :)
