This weekend's Get the Look: Decor is inspired by the wonderful spirit behind community gardens. Even though I live in the big city, I am lucky to have access to many public gardens in my neighborhood that allow me to get my hands dirty. These little patches of green offer a peaceful setting in the middle of an environment composed of tar, pavement and skyscrapers.
Getting involved in a community garden in your area is a great way to meet your neighbors, help beautify your streets, and it is also an effective method to promote earth-friendly awareness. I’ve used the photos from Brooklyn’s Backyard Garden, a community garden located in the Columbia St. Waterfront District neighborhood as my inspiration for the following Etsy Finds.
Visit the Community Garden flickr pool to view even more photos of neighborhood gardening projects from around the world and be sure to check out the following Etsy Finds for a bit of inspiration to start your own community garden or to add a bit of character to your own backyard garden.

The siamese mouse are perfect! We have community gardens all over Portland, they're wonderful :D
SusanFaye
Love the bird feeders and all of the garden markers! That reminds me--now if someone would just design a weed-pulling robot, I'd be happy...

In my neighborhood we have a "want a garden but need a space/have a space but can't garden" backyard movement - it's pretty cool =:)

Great post! Community gardens are such a wonderful idea, particularly great for urban dwellers or those who have no room for a vegetable garden in their yard. Love these picks, particularly the minnow bucket (reminds me of childhood fishing with Dad) and the painted flower pots!

Everything is so great! Love all the garden markers, but especially the gnome door! I am going to go out and get creative in my garden right now!
Thanks!

I think Community Gardens are really great - I didn't know there were so many garden tools on Etsy -- glad to see it and glad to see support for Community Gardens!!

I have to say that http://www.timesandchimes.etsy.com has birdhouses (and birdhouse ornmaments - something for everyone!) that use repurposed hardware and vintage items; they are SO cool!

fun picks! I love garden art and can go a bit crazy w/ it.

Love gardens & garden art! Our gardens & yard were approaching a PeeWee's Playhouse 'creativity' level a few years back but we toned it down quite a bit. Still have the life size vintage concrete donkey & Mexican guy w/ sombrero. An old concrete seal hides in the hosta island. Big fun!

my garden is pretty boring...now I have some cool new ideas!

Great collection. I love the bird houses and bird feeders.
My kids have decided that "mom" is getting old because I spend so much time planting and playing with my flowers.
"That's what old people do". Oh well, I sure am enjoying getting old - haha
daniellexo
That's my new community garden–literally a few doors down :D You've inspired me to get out there and get my hands dirty!

Great article! Thank you for including my vintage garden tool set! It is so great to see so many people getting into gardening and "making/growing" things with their own hands :)

If I could afford it, I would have a few pair of those feet planters!!! I can just picture them all over my back yard and in the garden!! Peering out from under bushes. :)

this is a great article. i love the idea of a community garden- and even a mini organic garden in your backyard or patio. yummy salads w/o the chemicals and even better that you grew it yourself. love the herb markers, too.
bluemetal
Love that you wrote about community gardens...such an incredible way to bring a community together! I'm really excited that you included one of my garden peace sign sculptures in your picks. Thanks.

Hey! This is incredible to be in the company of all of these imaginative artists. Thank you so much! I really believe that making a space more sacred, beautiful or fun is a very healing thing for the person who creates it as well as for their family and friends' enjoyment. Yay for adding to the harmony, all of you great etsy shops! Life is good!
HelloVictory
Love all these! Gardening is the best huh? That little gnome and fairy house is awesome. Thanks for including my minnow bucket :)

Also, thanks "YellowViolet" for letting me know! I had already read it yesterday, but on my slow computer got tired of waiting for pics to load up & went on to read another article and didn't even know my castle planters were there. (Smiling here...gotta get a wireless server)

We had a recent citywide community garden tour in Kansas City MO / KS where I live. I was super surprised and delighted to know how many urban gardens there are -- despite the fact that some folks not from the midwest assume cows are roaming the streets anyway :)
TreeHuggerStudio
That is awesome, I am lucky enough to have my first garden of my own this year and it's growing.yippeeee.
