Etsy Finds Decor: Industrial Fusion with Dustin Yellin

Christine

This weekend's Get the Look: Decor is inspired by The Red Hook Labs, a Brooklyn based collaborative artist space run by Dustin Yellin and Charlotte Kidd. The 15,000 square foot former industrial warehouse houses studios for sculpture, photography, painting, a video editing facility, a gallery and an artists' residency space.

Yellin creates intricate volumetric tomographic paintings through the gradual buildup of form, which is accomplished through layered paintings between blocks of resin. Dustin's personal work space includes countless found objects picked up during his many world travels (as well as on the street).

The space is filled with a mixture of animal artifacts and industrial machinery, as well as paintings, drawings and sculptures from friends, including work by Gavin Anderson and Gibby Haynes. Yellin even has a full size Airstream trailer parked inside his studio.

Visit The Selby for more photos of The Red Hook Labs and Dustin's studio. Check out the Etsy Finds below for some creative decorating ideas on how you can add an artistic touch of natural history to your own home or studio.  As an added bonus, be sure to check out Dustin's studio tour from Etsy's video series, There's No Place Like Here.

MEL-O-BIT American CHEESE Box...Upcycled

The Red Hook Labs are housed inside of an old printing warehouse, and it still reflects much of its industrial past. However, the space has been opened up to let in rays of natural light and filled with plants to soften its cold brick exterior. Using this salvaged box as a planter is a great way to add a bit of the past to your home garden. From fruitsaladvintage, $20.

The Airstream trailer, reminds me of a couple that turned their trailer into a travelling art gallery.

Artist studio's are always full of interesting (often dusty) objects. Those wood gears are great - I bought part of an old clock a few weeks ago, and spent hours taking it apart for the lovely brass gears.
